Your video is beautiful! Long overdue in my quest to get a visual. Thanks! My question is What is superfatting and (2), the calculations of the 3 main elements, can they be clarrified on the metaphysical website you've mentioned. Math and i never hit it off. This video took out alot of the mystery! You Are the Man! Peace!
did u try looking up cold process soap? He used many different oils so that made it more complicated then it seems. also look up the books on amazon. They help as well.
yeah... you will do the milk first as part of the lye solution... mix that with the oils and then add the orange last when it reaches trace. I have another video on here that does a milk based soap.
If you do a youtube search for: lavender lotus soap
I have a question..If i add goat milk (for softening the skin) and Chinese orange (for whitening the skin) will it work?..please answer me sir..Tnx for the video, it's really helping!!!
I've never used chinese orange for clearing blemishes but from what I've read (in the last 2 min) I would suggest adding it when you add your color, fragrance, superfat oils (if you add any). It's an acid and may cause problems with the lye. so adding it as late as possible might be helpful.
Again, I've never used it before so I'm not sure *exactly* what will happen... but I've used orange oil before for scent and it had no problem.
Thank you so much..but is it okey to mix milk & fruits together as one soap?..i'm confused if it'll work w/o loosing it's own effects.like chinese orange & milk.?
It says, "I'm wearing this shirt because I moodled in all my others"
Moodle is an open source CMS service that I had my students use for Core at Saint Joseph's College. They created the shirts for the class and gave me one.
This is a great video. I'm really happy that you and other experienced soapers posted these to YouTube. It was a great deal of help my first few batches.
I have another video that shows how I mix the lye. Lye is Sodium Hydroxide and you can buy it from the Internet or if you have a really fancy pharmacy.
The other video is called "Lavender and Lotus Blossom"
Hey, I would just like to say thank you. I'm doing my science fair project on this and you REALLY helped me out! Now, I know all the perfect steps into making soap. The only problem is that my project is due during May like in the middle..not sure exactly. I'm going to do my project as SOON as possible but I would just like to know how much MINIMUM time it will take for the solution to become actual soap and finish the soponification process.
It will start making "bubbles" within 3-4 days (which is when you can start cutting it into bars)... it is mostly "done" after about 8-24 hours. It takes 6 weeks to fully harden and be mild but you can start using it before.
Thank you SO MUCH. You practically the only reliable person who has made such a good video to show a person how to make soap. Many websites say different confusing things. Anyways, THANKS ;)
PLEASE don't mix lye solutions in glass. The heat plus the mechanical action of mixing can cause the glass to crack, break, even shatter and lye solution is very dangerous.
I've had pyrex break on me during soap making and was fortunate the container was sitting in the sink at the time.
I was wondering - is the water used to mix with the solution very important - everywhere I look it says use with distilled water but it is very expensive to buy in the UK? Can I use spring or filtered water instead?
I soap a LOT and you do not in fact need distilled water. I use tap water. Many use filtered water. Many use goats milk or even cream though slightly modified technique would be necessary.
Very nice videos!
Can I use liquid glycerin to make soap? Thank you

It would have been nice to see the final product. How long does it take for the soap to cure?
ummsoapy 3 years ago
It takes a full 3-6 weeks to "finish" but you can take it out of the mold after 2 days if everything went well.
I have another video (Summer Soap) that show how to cut the soap and what it finally looks like.
Peace :)

how do u know when the soap has reached trace?
laffertywelling 3 years ago
it will look like a custard or a thin pudding.
daved314 3 years ago
BTW if i dont have wax paper.. what else could i use to cover the carton.?? Thank u so much btw.
laffertywelling 3 years ago
a thick plastic that can handle heat near 212F/100C. Waxpaper is cheap and at the grocery store :)
daved314 3 years ago
Do we have to use Shea butter or supperfatting oil ? Cuz i will only heat up the oils and mix them with the lye solution. Is that ok?
laffertywelling 3 years ago
That is quite alright... be sure to weigh the oils and figure out the amount of lye and water to use :)
daved314 3 years ago
is the lye a SOLID ?
laffertywelling 3 years ago
That's what I use.
