I agree with you. I like Iwai too but the basic idea of this movie is so odd. There is no such 'Yentown' in Japan.

Best film ever.

Direction, Editing, Camera, Story, Ambiance, Style, Content, Characters, Actors, Soundtrack - everything's just unique and outstanding.

146 minutes runtime and I wouldn't cut out one single second. 146 minutes also never passed that quickly as this movie is never boring at any time.

It's a shame this film is so unknown. Cinematic Jewels like that are rare.

actually, this is the only film directed by Shunji Iwai i would like.

the other films by him was awful, not because of the directing skills, but the subject matter or the story he wants to tells was too stupid.

would like to see his documentary about Ichikawa Kon, whom was another Japanese director i like very much.
