  • A lecture about his dotted lines technique would be awesome

  • These lectures are so good that I feel I'm cheating on my school tests :$

  • why is he teaching mechanics equivilant to M1/M2 of Heinnemans books. I thought he was a degree level teacher.

  • @JONN3H UK and US universities have a different first year. In the US, irrespective of the degree everyone has to pass this class.

  • To explain the ruler trick at the end (think pivot point): First understand that when the two fingers are the same distance from the center, they are supporting the weight of the ruler equally. When one finger moves in closer, more weight is being distributed onto it, thus increasing friction (normal force X μk). This friction goes from kinetic to static. On the other finger, however, friction goes from static to kinetic and undergoes the same process until they both meet in the middle.

  • Thank you a lot for exam review lecture which help me to pass the exam of physics 1 at chulalongkorn university where the physics exam is not for a normal human being to take.....

  • You do not even have to clean your hands for that last experiment. You can even one finger wet (giving it more friction). When you are reaching the center with the finger that has the least friction almost all the weight will be resting on that finger and almost no weight on the highest friction finger. So you always end up in the middle.

Damn did I just corrected a professor of MIT? :-)

For the rest, 95% of this lecture is lost on me but I like to hear him talk, he's a great teacher.

  • So what is the reason for the phenomenon with the ruler that he did at the end of the lecture? Can someone explain it to me, please?

  • It seems to me, that it is a good idea to watch 1 of these physics classes a day. Pretty good way of spending time. Now I wonder if I type biology lectures into the search, if it finds something as interesting as this.

  • This guy is better than my prof.

I'm getting my A via youtube.

  • I've gotten to the point where I'm effectively taking Lewin's class online through these lectures and my scheduled course as an audit (attendance is taken and all). In about a month of lecture, he's covered as much material as my professor has covered all semester up through midterm. I'm very pleased with his entire semester being posted. Thank you MIT; thank you Prof. Lewin!

  • My prof has a very strong romanian accent. This guy is much clearer but I can't place his accent...not really american is it?

  • The Last problem is very cool. It actually happens because one finger gives an opposing force while the other uses that force to overcome friction and move towards the center of the yard stick and the whole thing keeps happening alternatively. It's quite easy but most often neglected by everyone whoever sees this.Walter Lewin is the greatest professor I've ever seen.

  • i don't think anyone could make an exam review so lively haha; i've been watching these videos like one every other day and my professor takes an entire week to half-assedly explain a single topic. simply amazing

  • I attended university about 9 years ago, never finished it because i found it very difficult ... a lot of instructor confused me with difficult words on top of new vocab/terms, so i lost interests in learning because i was always confused. I'm glad to have youtube and found this great instructor and video. it's now 4:34am, and i can't stop watching the video and don't feel tired of learning!

  • @newazninvasion Thats what a gr8 lecturer such as prof. walter lewin is capable of doing huh??BRILLIANT teacher....All hail Prof.Lewin!

  • I JUST LOVE HIS VIDEO! I am planning to buy his book and study at home for more detail reading! :D

  • Such an informative lecture! :)

Very captivating, had me interested until the end.

Thank you for sharing this, MIT! I hope to some day attend your amazing institute.

  • That yardstick problem at the end is cool ^^

  • Whoa. Perhaps I should wait a couple of years, and then listen to his teaching.

  • This is a wonderful series. Thank you MIT! NICE

  • 12K +1 =)

  • how sad, more people are interested in an idiot crying over britney spears than physics.

  • @DeluxeWarPlaya yahh..but i dun know why..but it seems wird tht really there r ppl who care abt hysX n actully luv it! i btw looooov physX, therefore i force myself to love math.. :)

  • @DeluxeWarPlaya check out the views now brah

  • Great Professor !!

  • its great, the professor is really good at his stuff. too bad there arent many professors that teach so well where i live.

  • 700 views....that's unfortunate.

This is a wonderful series. Thank you MIT!

  • Now 4,434 after only 6 months.

  • yay, over 10k after a year :P

  • I added over 20 after I told my classmate about this.

  • @troponinnutrition Now it's approaching 70,000 views!

  • @troponinnutrition 74.000 Views :)
