  • i like the net book better because it runs windows and its about the same price as th XO but i can see how this would be a good computer for children in developing countries.

  • where can i get one

  • eBay is the only place now.

OLPC ended their buy one get one offer, where you donated $200 which would send one XO to a devoloping nation, and another would be sent to you.

Unless OLPC decides to sell the laptop, or do another buy one get one.

  • Takes a while to boot up, eh.

  • Can it boot from usb and SD?

    any reply would appreciate

I am trying to get as much informations I can before I receive my.

I got Puppy Linux running on one of my 80G usb hard drive. Base on OLPC spec, Puppy linux should run perfectly on it.

  • With a developper key (which I think you can get rather easilly with G1G1 laptops, but which you cannot get for educationnal laptops unless the school has authorised the serial number to get a developper key) you can boot whatever you want, which is compatible with the hardware. Perhaps special signed software ona USB key or SD card could boot without the need of a developper key, such as when Windows provides a lite version of Windows XP on an SD card.

  • hahahahahaahhaha pretty cool

  • THANK YOU!!!! I am waiting for mine to arrive-

You are a wonderful reviewer/teacher (extremely clear and thorough)- you should have a TV show!

Happy new Year- and keep up the great work- I will look for more updates. lisa

  • how did u get one? i want to buy one

  • does laptop include internet?

  • yes thats what the ears are for

  • oh, and then restart Sugar (Ctrl+Alt+Erase)

  • Great review! That boot time was pretty gnarly though. Thank you for posting this :)

  • You don't need to boot it very often, it goes into a stand-by mode that consumes very little battery, perhaps it can stay in stand-by mode for weeks on a battery, from which you resume to the OS in a second.

  • It's been planned to be able to, but it really can't right now. The software is still being developed fast; good suspending and resuming is still a few upgrades away.
