i like the net book better because it runs windows and its about the same price as th XO but i can see how this would be a good computer for children in developing countries.
not perfect lol what a joke that is normal on a Linux system and thats what the XO is dont tell people its not perfect because you dont understand Linux
With a developper key (which I think you can get rather easilly with G1G1 laptops, but which you cannot get for educationnal laptops unless the school has authorised the serial number to get a developper key) you can boot whatever you want, which is compatible with the hardware. Perhaps special signed software ona USB key or SD card could boot without the need of a developper key, such as when Windows provides a lite version of Windows XP on an SD card.
You don't need to boot it very often, it goes into a stand-by mode that consumes very little battery, perhaps it can stay in stand-by mode for weeks on a battery, from which you resume to the OS in a second.
It's been planned to be able to, but it really can't right now. The software is still being developed fast; good suspending and resuming is still a few upgrades away.
great review! Keep them coming. If you could do more on the softwear that would be great

That's a cool computer, but there's no need to buy it now that HP Minis exist.
Ah, technology. As it improves, it leaves many things obsolete.
Good review :)

where can i get one
goofymad 3 years ago
eBay is the only place now.
OLPC ended their buy one get one offer, where you donated $200 which would send one XO to a devoloping nation, and another would be sent to you.
Unless OLPC decides to sell the laptop, or do another buy one get one.

Takes a while to boot up, eh.

Can it boot from usb and SD?
any reply would appreciate
I am trying to get as much informations I can before I receive my.
I got Puppy Linux running on one of my 80G usb hard drive. Base on OLPC spec, Puppy linux should run perfectly on it.
