There are different ways to play the point guard position, and John Stockton did it one way better then anyone else ever in the game!
@GarchompNation Well, he had nearly 6000 more assists and over 1500 more steals than Magic. He had 1000+ assists in a season 7 times (Only two other guys have ever done it once). He had 20 assists in a game 38 times (next closest are 32 and 17). He missed 22 games in his career over 2 seasons. That makes 17 seasons where he didn't miss a game. He had two careers worth of HOF stats. He's not just better than every other point guard, he's possibly better than any two point guards.
@weedfeen First of all I must say that I love Stockton. Gritty, great competitor, a real PG. But no way in hell was he better than Magic. Numbers in assists, yes. But that is mostly due to Magic's career being almost half of what John's was, due to his illness. Magic could dominate a game with nothing but passes, no other pg in my lifetime has been even close to that. And again, I love Stockton and he's right there at the top when discussing all time PG's, behind Oscar and Magic, maybe Zeke.
BEST PURE point guard that stands out for me is Stockton. The dude made NBA 1st team only twice (when they made the finals), he should had made it more than twice, great ball handler, passer, good scorer and shooter, assists (leader), lockdown D steals (leader), double double guy, shit he only missed 22 games his entire career and 18 of it was one season ect..smh one of the most underrated players (pg) to have ever play this game and for the love of the game as well.

Fantastic person and player. One of my favorites. Met him and the Jazz once in a Hotel in North Carolina, went up to him and told him I'm a huge fan, and before I could continue he stopped me and invited me to breakfast with him. Will remember that day for the rest of my life.

World class cookies! He's the one of the three that has kept it off actually- looks like he could still lace 'em up! He has always been my favorite player, and I lived in SLC for several years in the 90's and spent a lot of time at Delta Center- I was very lucky. I have his autograph a couple of times (one of the original Hoops SU-1 autos too!), some jerseys, RC and more- just can't help it. Thanks for the memories John!!

@pbossiac, he DOES have individual accomplishments...he's the NBA's all-time assists AND steals leader, and even though he never won an NBA championship ring, he did win two gold medals..not the same as an NBA ring but it is certainly classifiable as a championship which he deserved.

Stockton was a very special player. He's was the kind of guy that you hated when your team was playing against him, but you always wished you had him on your team.
So humble and gracious. That is Stockton's way. Deferring credit and making self-depreciating comments. How can you not love this guy?
In addition to being the consmmate competitor and professional, John was very unselfish, had a basketball acumen that was off the charts, and played with as much heart and grit as anybody who's ever played the game.. It is these qualties that make me proud to be a fan.
@pkbosslac I think that Magic being a pg on a team with Kareem, James, Byron, Norm Nixon, Jamal Wilkes and Bob McAdoo coming off the bench he had to hold back a little...being the pg and such...but still he was walking triple double...and Stock I think he only had just 1 triple double in his entire career I think...that's why I would put Magic over Stock cuz he had more all around skills...

Jordan wasn't throwing arrogance nor spite during his speech. He recognized his colleagues and how much they contributed to his growth as a player. Jordan acknowledged that without them his career wouldn't have been the same. They made playing basketball FUN.

World class cookies! He's the one of the three that has kept it off actually- looks like he could still lace 'em up! He has always been my favorite player, and I lived in SLC for several years in the 90's and spent a lot of time at Delta Center- I was very lucky. I have his autograph a couple of times (one of the original Hoops SU-1 autos too!), some jerseys, RC and more- just can't help it. Thanks for the memories John!!

@pbossiac, he DOES have individual accomplishments...he's the NBA's all-time assists AND steals leader, and even though he never won an NBA championship ring, he did win two gold medals..not the same as an NBA ring but it is certainly classifiable as a championship which he deserved.
Stockton was a class act..hope he pursues a career in basketball and one day wins a ring as a coach/owner/etc..

Stockton was a very special player. He's was the kind of guy that you hated when your team was playing against him, but you always wished you had him on your team.

So humble and gracious. That is Stockton's way. Deferring credit and making self-depreciating comments. How can you not love this guy?
In addition to being the consmmate competitor and professional, John was very unselfish, had a basketball acumen that was off the charts, and played with as much heart and grit as anybody who's ever played the game.. It is these qualties that make me proud to be a fan.
Stockton and his family are class personified.

@pkbosslac I think that Magic being a pg on a team with Kareem, James, Byron, Norm Nixon, Jamal Wilkes and Bob McAdoo coming off the bench he had to hold back a little...being the pg and such...but still he was walking triple double...and Stock I think he only had just 1 triple double in his entire career I think...that's why I would put Magic over Stock cuz he had more all around skills...

Jordan wasn't throwing arrogance nor spite during his speech. He recognized his colleagues and how much they contributed to his growth as a player. Jordan acknowledged that without them his career wouldn't have been the same. They made playing basketball FUN.

I don't care. This is a John Stockton video and youre mentioning Jordan and Kareem. Jordan is a bitter alcoholic gambler and failure as GM (did you hear his terrible HOF speech?). Kareem is a loser who never played defense and was near-broke till Lakers bailed him out (worst business mind in pro sports).

I'm sorry, but MJ should never try to give a speech again. Or at least put a permanent "DISCLAIMER: I will go out of my way to rip everyone else" label to his name. He may be the best basketball player of all time, but he had probably the most spiteful speech of all time as well. Stockton, Robinson, thanks for bring classy back into the HoF.

Stockton made Jordan look like a little bitch at the HoF ceremony. Stockton was a trie professional, a class act. Plus the all-time steals and assists leader. A great guy with his priorities straight. And I'm not even a Jazz fan in the least.

nba stars nowdays are full of dumbasses who never wrote a paragraph in their life. Look at the old stars! look at john! hes so well spoken and intelligent! nba is just not fun anymore. not like it used to be. its just full of high school thugs who shoot 7/34 and never play any defense or passs the ball.
