  • lmaoo woahhhh!!

  • Wats the prossecors on them

  • @cycotec1 Both are single-core processors. The EVO 4G is rated at 1GHz and the EVO Shift is rated at 800MHz, but the Shift is a newer design and has at least as much power as the EVO 4G's processor.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • I got a evo 4g for free

  • htc evo shift fails!!!

  • Evo Shift more powerful than the original Evo!

  • I got the evo shift. does it make any sense to have it be 34 degrees in one pleace and 45degrees in the same one....? lol.

  • Mmmm I go for the evo

  • boyy the EVO is killin everyting

  • Can't wait to get the Evo 4g

  • Wait If I use the wifi to connect to Internet will I get charged cause I don't have a data plan just unlimited text and call

  • @Theicecreamman102 You will not be charged if you use WiFi to connect to the Internet. However, Sprint won't activate an EVO Shift or EVO 4G without a data plan. I'd be surprised if you can activate either one to use the phone without a data plan.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly phone you choose which of these two?

  • @wevoism Did you watch the video? The video is all about picking a winner between these two.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • im getting the HTC EVO 4g today so excited!!!!

  • quadrant scores is a scam

  • i have the evo shift i <3 it but kinda bulky... o_O

  • Might the larger screen have something to do with the benchmark results? Not sure how cell phone processors work, but it seems like since they're not running off a video card, a larger screen and/or higher refresh rates would affect processing speeds?

  • @mutantcheez Since the displays in the EVO Shift and the EVO 4G are both 480x800 pixels, they have the same display processing requirements. So, no... the screen size makes no difference in this case, although your logic is pretty good.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly Thanks for the reply Bob! Your vids have been very helpful in determining which cell I want to go with.

  • @mutantcheez the reason is because the Original Evo has a older generation processor than the shift does... the clockspeed doesnt mean much

  • can u do a shmack down between the htc evo shift and the new htc evo design!!!!

  • @bluber890 I appreciate the suggestion but that's one that probably won't happen. The EVO Shift is just too old at this point and I don't think many viewers would be interested.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly thanks for the response!!! what do you think is a good shmack down between the htc evo design

  • @bluber890 Not sure what a good choice would be. In interesting match would be the EVO Design vs. the Pantech Breakout for Verizon. Both single-processor 4G phones with 4-inch displays.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly sure would love to see it!!

  • Why was the temperature for the weather app off between the two?

  • @BalsamicPork I think the phones were set for two different cities.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • i go for the evo 4g

  • Shift aint that great. Its so slow. I cant even watch this video with jt inless i wait like 10 min

  • @cloudff97 that might be your network....i had the evo 4g and it was extremely slow, to the point to where it pissed me off, i want the shift now, but i wanna flash it to another company

  • the shift ♥ lol I just hate really big phones :/

  • Htc evo 4g is da shyt :D

  • Wich one would you choose?

Not counting screens Other than the screens wich would u choose, And why

    Thankss.

  • bigger is better, gigity

  • Well if you notice when the Quadrant test is about to end That spiral thing on the original evo is laggy a bit

As for the shift I didnt notice any lag

I dont have niether of these phones, Im going to get the shift soon

  • @HipNoTic35 Or i might get the evo 3D

  • Why doesnt the evo shift on wirefly.com have android 2.3??

    :(

  • @wirefly thanks soooooo much. all of this has been very helpful. i think i want to go for something new so im going with the evo. i will most likely get my evo off of wirefly. but just one last thing out of curiosity. do you think the epic would be as popular of a phone if it didnt have the side out qwerty keyboard?????

  • @TikTokSpaceGirls The Samsung Epic is one of Samsung's Galaxy S phones, all of which were very popular on other carriers. The Epic is the only Galaxy S phone that had a keyboard. My guess is that if the Epic did not have a keyboard, it would have been popular, too... just like the Samsung Fascinate was on Verizon.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly yes. but what about the samsung epic... and the only reason im afraid about getting the evo 4g is that its too big and im not very good with touchscreen keyboards. is the one on the evo 4g easy to work with and to adapt to. so should i play it safe with the evo shift, should i go for something new like the evo 4g, or should i get a little of both with the epic. again im using this phone for basic features ( call, text, web browsing, apps, and a good media player). thanks, reply please

  • @TikTokSpaceGirls I think the on-screen keyboard on the EVO 4G is excellent. However, the Samsung Epic has just about the best physical keyboard available, if you prefer a physical keyboard. The EVO 4G has a bigger display than the Epic, but the Epic's display has nicer technology that makes it really punchy. Both have good music players, apps and phones.

Some good news: On Wirefly, use coupon code LABORDAY2011 to get $25 off from 9/2 to 9/5.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly im getting my upgrade real soon and im having alot of trouble... i dont really care about battery... what i do care about in a phone is texting, apps, and media.. those are my main concerns. i am switching from the lg rumor touch (it sucks). im also on a buget so nothing over 150$... please respond

  • @TikTokSpaceGirls What would you like my advice about? Both those phones are good for texting, but the EVO Shift is probably the better of the two for texting. The EVO 4G is better for media and probably apps. Is that what you wanted to know?

    Bob at Wirefly

  • ive been hearing things about the battery life are they good if you like to play game and text alot and maybe web browsing

  • damnnnit just put the keyboard on the original somehow... i want the big screen.... i want the keyboard.. well almost NEED the keyboard.. decided to go with the shift bcuz of that...

  • @wirefly I just replaced my evo shift with the evo because the keyboard messed up on two different shifts I had. I hate the shift with a passion.

  • does the evo shift have a newer version of htc sense than the evo 4g?

  • @xXS135Xx The HTC EVO Shift and HTC EVO 4G both use versions of HTC's Sense 2 user interface. I think that the EVO Shift has a slightly newer version... something like Sense 2.2 vs. Sense 2.1 in the EVO 4G. Although I'm not completely sure about that.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly my evo shift is running 2.2 and my brothers evo 4g runs 2.3

  • Im getting a new phone too this Friday. I cant decide which one to get. So hard to choose lol.

  • If you had to pick, Which one would you get?

  • @jvill318 Me? I'd get the EVO 4G.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • I wish you would have demonstrated web browsing on both platforms, especially with the shift. I would have like to see how responsive the touchpad thing is as well as keyboard input. I haven't had a keyboard machine in a while and I remember with the keyboard systems a generation ago there would be a slight but noticeable lag between typing and input to screen.

  • Hey Bob can you explain this please... i did a quadrant test on my evo 4g and i only got about 800 when the other day i was about 1300! whats going on with my phone!!!

  • @JGMURPY1 Quadrant will give you different scores at different times. It could be something like you just happened to pick the moment when your phone was updating Facebook information (or e-mail, weather, Twitter or some other regular update), and that slowed down the Quadrant score. That's a guess on my part, but the lower score is probably because something else was running on the EVO 4G at that moment.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly actually, the reason the shift is faster than the original evo is because, they both use a snapdragon processor, difference is the evo 4g uses the first generation, the evo shift uses the second generation which is alot better, also the shift has 2gb of rom, original only has 1gb

  • Anyone wanna know how to get an HTC Evo very cheap? Well this is what you can do, when your not eligible for an upgrade you could add a line and get the Evo for 99.99 instead of $450. Adding a line only cost an extra 9.99 a month.

  • Why is there an 11 degree temp diff on the clock widget.

  • @adamtrower14 I think it has to do with when the phones update the weather information. You can set the phones to update the weather information at various intervals, including 6 hours. Depending on what the interval is, the temperatures could be very different.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • pause at 0:00

    Hold down left arrow key

Press on the up arrow key (while still holding left key)

    Have fun playing snake

    Thumbs Up if it worked

  • if i could get the evo/evo shift 699.99 total

  • If you have the Sprint data plan, then you can get both phone for free at Radioshack.

  • My family it all twisted and turned when it comes to these phones. Dad, Mom, and Sis have evos and me and my bro have the Shifts. I really love the keyboard on the shift, but the only downfall is that it comes with that 2gb micro sd card and that space gets filled up Quick!!!!!!! If you choose keyboard over front facing camera and features like that, buy a bigger sd card and the shift is great. PS YOU CAN STILL QIK(FACETIME) YOU JUST USE THE BACK CAMERA. its a lil awkward but it works fine!

  • @CFishx23 Umm I Have The Shift Too Mine Came With An 8gb SD Card :)!

  • The One main thing you have to think about is the price!!! The EVO Shift is 99.95 and regular EVO is 299.99 when you have all the crap for it so the shift is nearly just as good and alot cheeper i would prefer the HTC EVO Shift.

    Info from: Sprint.com

  • @DDJProductions1 Those prices will almost certainly be a lot less on Wirefly. I hope you check the prices there before you decide.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @DDJProductions1 ...What? The EVO 4G is free with a 2 year contract.

  • @cursedswordsman lol thats why im getting it mostlikely with my upgrade :p

  • @DDJProductions1 Both phones have been 99.99 from Sprint for a while now. The EVO was actually never 299.99...

  • My father is getting me the evo shift on august 1st those are good phones my dad got the evo 4g

  • How long is the battery life in both phones?

  • @bernadettedeary I know that this is a critical bit of information that everybody wants to know, but it is a hard number to derive. If you expect to use either of these phones for 8 hours straight on a cross-country trip, the batteries won't last the 8 hours. If you make a couple of phone calls, do a bit of web surfing, do 10 texts, check Facebook and play Angry Birds for 30 minutes, you'll be fine for a day.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • How big of a difference is that processing power? I'm going to be getting one of these soon, and I was originally sold on the Evo 4G. Having learned that the Shift outperforms it in processing, I'm thinking of reconsidering.

I like the aesthetic and size of the 4G, but I'm a PC enthusiast so I like maxing specs. Is the difference noticeable at all? I know that benchmarks tend to highlight differences that would almost never be noticeable in real-world scenarios, so that's why I'm having doubts.

  • @bladerunner12 In most ordinary operations, you won't notice the processor speed difference between the EVO Shift and the EVO 4G. If you really want to max performance, get the EVO 3D... that definitely has a performance difference you can feel as compared to the EVO 4G.

Otherwise, the real-world performance difference is minimal between the EVO Shift and EVO 4G.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly Thanks for the quick response.

The 3D is pretty much out of the question. I'm up for an upgrade discount at Sprint so I can score either of these two for around $75, the 3D would probably be quite a bit more. So was wondering which would be best bang for the buck.

    Thanks again.

  • @bladerunner12 If it was me, I'd get the EVO 4G. However, if you're a fan of slide-out keyboards, then maybe the EVO Shift is right for you. For me, it's all about screen real estate, and the EVO 4G has that.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly what is meant by "screen real estate"...i am a realtor and wanted to know if that's a special feature for the EVO Shift..thanks.

  • @charmjones01 I meant space on the display. The EVO 4G has a bigger display, which means that it has more space on the display. The EVO 4G's display is something like 7 square inches, vs. maybe 6 sq. inches on the EVO Shift.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Thanks for the information. Very helpful.

  • Got the shift, want the 3d now...

  • i just got the shift today :)

  • HTC EVO Shift better

  • @94ecua no its not. that thing sucks

  • @wirefly i have a ? in the video at 5:24 i noticed that both phones had two diffrent temp readings on the weather that day it was a big diffrence can you explain that

  • @Jjgould21 I'm just guessing, but I think it has to do with the frequency at which the weather information is updated on each phone. This can be set to different times (1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, etc.) and I'm guessing that one phone has more current information than the other. If one has the temp from 20 minutes ago and the other from 5 hours ago, that could explain the difference.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • ok thx but i think im either getting the lg optimus s or transform(because it has a keyboard) but ive heard bad rumors about the transform;is it as bad as they say in other words should i buy the transform or the optimus becuz i really want an android with a keyboard but if the rumors r true about the transform then im not gettin it,any ideas on which i should get?

  • @waldirguerra33 I prefer the Optimus S to the Transform, as the Optimus S simply runs better. In my opinion, the best phone on Sprint with a keyboard is the Samsung Epic 4G. In fact, the Epic 4G is arguably the best phone with a keyboard available for *any* carrier. Take a look at it before you rule it out.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • I like how different the weather temperature was on each phone. xD

I almost bought an Evo Shift today, but then I saw this video and realized I would have been very disappointed! I'll get the original Evo. Thank you Wirefly~

  • @lexipixels You're welcome!

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Hey bob im 13 and im looking for a phone to get this November (on contract) but i dont know which of these to get,ive never had a smartphone before so im looking for either the shift or the evo 4g but i dont know which to get.Which one is better for a person with a smartphone 'starter' like me?

  • @waldirguerra33 A lot depends on whether you think you want a keyboard or not. Neither is what I would call a "starter" phone... that would be the LG Optimus S on Sprint. Of these two,, I suggest the EVO 4G. The bigger screen will be better for gaming and sharing with friends.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @GinnyGinnyGinsberg They are both good phones, but I prefer the EVO 4G. I like the bigger display and the front camera makes video chat possible. However, if you like a keyboard for texting, the EVO Shift is a good phone too.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • You failed to communicate about call quality, which is better for texting, who drops more calls, turns off more of freezes could you comment on that please. im indecisive about which one i want to get and that will help immensely

  • @abunnynamedluna They both have good call quality. As for the rest, I mostly test phones to report on their features and processing power. The things you mention are important but are outside the norm for the sort of tests we can do. With respect to texting, it depends on whether you prefer a physical keyboard (EVO Shift) or on-screen keyboard (EVO 4G). Perhaps someone will help answer the rest.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Thank you so much i really appreciate you responding to my question, i will keep looking for an answer to my questions

    thanks =]

  • Awesome review, Bob! Other folks doing product comparisons and reviews should be taking notes from your videos!

  • @phobulous Thanks!

    Bob at Wirefly

  • thanks so much helped

  • With regular use (web browsing, calling/texting, games) how long does the battery last for the EVO 4G? Is there a difference in battery between the Shift, 4G, and the 3D? If you could tell me it would help me out with which one to buy.

    Thanks

  • @Twaple123 The EVO 3D has the biggest battery of this group, and it's about 15% bigger than the battery in the EVO 4G. I believe the EVO Shift's batter is a little smaller than the EVO 4G's battery. Any time period that I mention will be hotly contested by some and ridiculed by others, and my experience is that some days the battery will last longer and it will die faster on other days. The EVO 3D has lasted well for me with reasonably use.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • thumbs up if you noticed the evo's clock was faster

  • @neeky95 which evo. lol there both evo's xD

  • @N1NJABUNNYS the evo 4g lol

  • Evo is for boys and evo shift is for girls. Simple as that

  • thumbs up if u see he didnt line the pones up correctly xD

  • @mrscooterboy6 lol yea I noticed that too I was like hey thats cheating that one is more down. XD

  • @mrscooterboy6 He lined up them to show the SCREEN size difference, not the phone size. . .

  • I have the EVO shift and the rest of my family has the EVO. The shift is faster when it comes to most things(texts checking mail etc) but the EVO can handle more at once than the shift. So it all depends what you use your phone for.

  • I like the Evo Shift a little bit more than the Evo... Thanx Bob

  • Is the EVO 4G still a excellent phone? I was thinking about getting it from a friend since my upgrade is next yr :/

  • Lol , Why Do The Phones Say Two Different Temperatures In The Weather Widget ? Their Right Next To Each Other .

  • @MyLipGlossIsPoppinx3 I think the phones are set for two different cities, thus different temperatures.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • which one would be better as a father's day gift??

  • @diviyam I personally like the EVO 4G a little better than the EVO Shift, but a lot depends on whether your dad prefers using a physical keyboard. If he likes a keyboard, then the EVO Shift is the way to go. If a keyboard is not important, then you should think about the new HTC EVO 3D... definitely an upgrade from the EVO 4G.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • faster speed nothing it helps when you run wifi on one and not the other

  • Hey Bob, I'm leaving for college soon, and I need a faster phone. My current phone is a hardly responsive touch screen Samsung Instinct. I need a fast processing phone able to text and check emails without long waits. Of the Epic 4G, Evo Shift, or original Evo, which should I choose?

  • @TeknoRepublic The Instinct wasn't a great phone but it was small. Do you like that size? The reason I mention it is because the Epic 4G, EVO Shift and EVO 4G are all MUCH bigger than the Instinct. You might want to wait for the Samsung Within in a month or two. Otherwise, my fave of that group is the Epic 4G. I really like the AMOLED screen and 5-row keyboard.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • I have the evo its the best phone out there I had the iPhone and I think the evo is the best phone but!!!!!!!!! Y will they make a new evo with out the cam for video chat its dumb to me

  • I was mad wen I found out it didn't have a camera in the front

  • I always thought it was the same. But I have the shift I like it I yes it since march

  • lol on says 34 degrees and the other says 45 degrees lol

  • EVO 3D SHIFT PLEASE!!!

  • Overall the Evo is better but if you dont need much multimedia than go with the shift.

  • They are both good phones some things are better from both but in my opinion the shift is better well for me cause I txt a lot and its smaller in my pocket but like he said if you love takeing pics and messing with that the original is better

  • I would love if you could help me thanks

  • Hey Bob at wire fly I'm getting a new phone this week what phone should I get echo, epic, evo 4g, evo shift

  • @AGGIEBOSS I have no idea how you use a phone, what you like to do or what you're willing to carry. However, if it was up to me, my preference among those phones is the Samsung Epic 4G. Now that the Epic has Android 2.2, it's one of my all-time faves.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @AGGIEBOSS wait till the evo 3d 4g. its ganna b 10x better

  • They should take the original Evo add a keyboard, keep the screen the same size, and have the speed of the Evo shift. now that would be a great phone

  • love tethering and hotspot

  • @summergigglez Yupp Same as Evo 4g

  • OMG, you sound like Dr. Phil.

  • You mentioned nothing about battery life, speaker sound and volume... two things that are quite important..

  • Hey Bob, Im a 15 year old and I am getting my update for sprint in august. I currently have the HTC Hero ( Older ) and im REALLY tired of it. Its slow and cannot use rather good apps, " Angry Birds " Is an example. I would really like speed and comfort for my phone. And can use youtube really good, since I use it a lot :P But I also really miss a keypad...

So I have no idea to choose, so do you think you can help me or even give me a few tips? Evo 4g Or Evo Shift (:

    Thanks

  • @TheTrainingWheels It's my understanding that Sprint will announce (and ship) some nice new phones in the next few months, certainly by July. The EVO 4G, EVO Shift and Samsung Epic 4G are great phones for today, but the upcoming phones look like they will blow those out of the water. If I were to recommend a phone today, it would be the Epic 4G, based on your comment about a keypad. But by August, there will be better choices.

    Good luck!

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @TheTrainingWheels honestly, if i were you i'd wait foor the Evo 3d look it up.

  • @TheTrainingWheels

I am in the same situation. I have the Hero right now and have been debating on which phone to get. I ordered the Shift yesterday, but I will go back and get the Evo if I don't like it

  • @TheTrainingWheels Dont get the Epic. Spec wise its one of the best phones out, but the device itself is horrible. The OS is really bad and the icons are not as nice looking as the ones found on HTC Sense. The whole keyboard gets scratched from simply sliding the phone, the device is very cheap feeling and the sliding mechanism is as bad as ive ever seen on a phone. The Evo Shift tackles all of these problems and the only thing its missing is a front facing camera.

  • @TheTrainingWheels hi Ummm Bob i know im not a tester for for sure in June a Htc Evo 4g 3d Is comming out and i think its very good check it out. /watch?v=-ynmqtopi9g

  • @TheTrainingWheels dude go for the reg evo, its a little bit better, but the shift is a little bit easier so just depends on what you want....bigger screen or keyboard?

  • nice vidio review. i like when you say both are great phones which they are. unlike other reviews from other ppl

  • does the evo shift have the option to speak into a mic when texting people?

  • When you use this phone sideways do you have to slide out the keyboard in order for the screen to tilt along with it? Like if I wanted to use the virtual keyboard on its side or just use the phone sideways in general, can I do that without having to slide out the keyboard? Sorry, I'm new to these kinds of devices. Thank you.

  • @ZeroMetalSlug I think so, but don't know for sure. I had to send the EVO Shift back, so I no longer have it to test.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @ZeroMetalSlug I think so, but don't know for sure. I had to send the EVO Shift back, so I no longer have it to test.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @ZeroMetalSlug You can use the keyboard sideways when you flip it

  • Hey I've been researching both phones. I've had the HTC Evo 4g for about 5 months now and I am getting rather tired of charging my phone every couple hours. Is the shifts battery consumption better enough to justify making the switch. I just want to be able to make it through my day of classes without freaking about my battery.

  • Get the Evo shift it's better !!!!!!!!!

  • EVO 4G!

  • can u help me? i'm having a hard time choosing between htc evo 4g and htc evo 3D.I'm 13. i love texting and taking pictures.so which should I get?~ thx!

  • I really need help. I'm getting my phone upgrade later this month for Sprint, and I literally can't decide which phone to get. Should I get the EVO Shift, EVO, Epic, Windows Phone 7 Arrive, or wait for the Nexus S 4G? This would really help a lot. Thanks. Love the videos, they're a big help!

  • since you talked abut the g2 why dont you do a review between the g2 and the evo shift 4g

  • DAMMN!!! I CANT DECIDE

  • I refuse to believe that Quadrant test. great review

  • Thank you for this video, I'm still not 100% percent decided but I think I'm gonna get the original Evo. I'm just not used to an all touchscreen phone, is it hard to get used to it? I'm switching from a Blackberry so I'm sure either one would be much better.

  • @Marty07 I get to handle LOTS of phones and I prefer touchscreen-only phones. I carry my phone in a shirt pocket, and keyboard phones are just too bulky and heavy for a shirt pocket. Everyone is different, however. Many women I speak to say that they throw their phone in a purse and the size/weight isn't an issue.

For me personally, I prefer a touchscreen phone with a good on-screen keyboard. Your mileage will probably vary...

    Bob at Wirefly

  • 6 ppls got iphones lol

  • Which will you recommend the shift or the regular evo

  • should i wait for iphone for sprint of get the shift

  • @fatfaty123 shift iphone suks

  • @fatfaty123 iPhone probably isn't coming to Sprint any time soon.

  • if you had to pick one for your 13 yearold daughter which one would it be ? Htc Evo or Htc Evo Shift

  • @ig3tcrazy1 I suggest the EVO Shift for a 13-year-old. It's a little smaller than the EVO 4G and the keyboard is a little better for texting. That's still a LOT of phone to give to a 13-year-old... you might want to consider the Samsung Transform, which is another Android phone for Sprint.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • I recommend the Motorola Droid X by Verizon. It's only $569 U.S. dollars without a contract. Sprint, HTC, and their EVO's SUCK.

  • @YouHateGasgara Evo is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the Droid X but it's still a good phone

  • @12partyboy No the EVO is by HTC and Sprint. While the Droid X is by Motorola and Verizon. The Droid X is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the Evo.

  • Im cooking a turkey can i borrow your evo

  • NEW HTC EVO 3D COMING OUT THIS SUMMER!!!

  • How much is the bill every month for that cell phone?
