  • some of the tone in her voice while singing this song reminds me of the great Karen carpenter

  • This woman makes you proud to be Irish

  • The best is definitely Etta James version

  • So many versions of this song but this is the best since Julie London. Great performance!

  • julie london has had more black coffee!!

  • One of my favourite songs,

  • Imelda May has a lot of the same singing qualities of Diana Krall. I just heard of Imelda after seeing her on Jay Leno (The Tonight Show) tonight, so, admittedly i'm behind the curve a little bit, but she is one incredibly talented woman, that is for darn sure. She is a true star and has one hell of a career ahead of her.

  • Usually Beck is outstanding, but the tone is all wrong for the song. Again, Beck is a GREAT guitarist, but this time I think he wasn't on top of his game.

  • @frandsenphilip1 Listen again. Keep listening until you change your opinion.

  • @guitarslim56 Your statement is illogical. I may listen any number amount of times again and perhaps change my opinion, but it doesn't mean I WILL change my opinion.

  • Beautiful

  • Who's "we"-- popularity does not = greatness. I wouldn't have compared her to anybody, but she chose the song and I was responding . Etta or Mahalia ? I've heard Imelda before, good voice, but she tries to sing beyond her capacities-- doesn't have it to belt out or an R& B which I've heard . You/ anybody can get upset just 'cause I disagree?? Com' on. I'm sure there's some singer whom I think has a great voice, and you and the "we" disgree. It's a great big world, so again, I say Chill

  • I just don't like her singing, that voice! Gees! does everybody like everybody Chill!

  • @Marielena5058

You know Marielena...you are right..people do have the right not to like a voice for qualitative reasons..hey it just does not hit home with you..and good on you to stand by that..

However.. when you start knocking down specific qualities of her voice that we know are exceptional...such as the strength...etc. comparing it to Peggy or Nina...you lose lot of us..

heck if you are talking about strength why not compare to Etta J. or Mahalia J. instead..

  • Marielena, you need to get your ears checked.

  • she just doesn't have the voice, it's weak-- like the greats, Julie, Peggy, Nina Simone, and like that--- maybe if she stuck to her own songs. Disappointing

  • @Marielena5058

She may mot have the power of some of the great jazz singers, but there is a quality to her tone which I just love.

  • va va voom this lady is sooooo good- one of the best

  • Imelda is off the charts and equal coodos to Jeff Beck and the Bassman, heck, the whole band. Amazing talent.

  • wow what a talent just as good as the original, imelda may is wonderful, a beautiful dublin girl.

  • It is difficult, even sometime unwise, to tackle a classic like Julie London's 'Cry Me a River', but Imelda May nails it, down the echo at the end. Awesome!

  • I prefer Justin Timberlake's version ;-)

  • Mari Wilson did a great version of this in the 80's (just sayin' - I like Imelda's performance too!)

  • squirt i think i just squirted

  • she is a vision in that dress.

  • Julie London Part2

  • europeans are the only people that value jazz music anymore

  • that makes me want to light a cigarette under the moonlight and cry...

  • @carlopstar thats very poetic! I like!

  • Can't people just enjoy her version of the song without the usual "I think so-and-so's version was/is better", etc. It's not a competition to see whose version is 'better' so just listen and enjoy. If you prefer someone else's 'better' version then go and listen to that instead. Not exactly rocket science is it?

  • @TheMG63 Well said, many talented people have done this song. The "best" is just personal preference.

  • she's so awesome it's pathetic!

  • oups...perfect...

  • tuskin :)

  • Klasse zo iezo..!

  • Guitar intro alla B. Kessel !!!

  • Julie London owns this song but, Imelda pays homage to her with a great deal of respect and talent.

  • wow

  • I am a Julie London fan but this lady does her justice

  • likeitlikeitlikeitlikeit! very cool variant, full of passion

  • wow!, 0 dislikes... no hater found this video; thanks god!.

  • Julie London's song but Imelda PLEASE have MY babies ... if you have any with Mr Higham they will be TOO talented

  • sublime!!!

  • l dont think so

  • @elcicuta1 she's been singing for a while, just not on mtv

  • I think Diana Krall just does this song better than anyone; dead or alive.

  • Swoon tune!!!

Julie London was then (aand brilliant)... Imelda is in the here and now.

  • Written originally for Ella Fitzgerald's role in 'Pete Kelly's Blues' - but it was rejected! What was Jack thinking??? Lovely rendition of this classic tune.

  • At 1,37 the keyboard player lets one rip!!

  • She's a drink of fresh water in the world of music,,,finally

  • @elcicuta1 I couldn't agree more. Sometimes an exceptional talent like Imelda will break through, there is hope for the music industry!

  • LOVE THIS SONG BUT I PERSONALLY THINK JULIE LONDONS VERSION WAS A BIT BETTER

  • Comment removed

  • @tomthefunky Well getting a bit personal are we not ? I was only saying I prefer the original

version I will not get into a slanging match online as its not my way I find your reply offensive

    to say the least !

  • @EEEEELAD of course but julie is dead and Imelda is alive.

  • @EEEEELAD I'd be interested to hear Julie London do it the way Imelda May performed it here. Live, straight no chaser with Jeff Beck.... no pressure then. ;-)

  • @EEEEELAD i kind of like this better... it has more feeling to me. maybe its just the live recording. its so powerful.

  • @EEEEELAD Toatlly agree-- see my comment

  • @Marielena5058

Marielena......seriously??.......I guess sometimes to satisfy the need to stand out against the tide of admiration....criticism is rendered whether deserved or not...

  • Wow!!!!!

  • perfect!!

  • @jonahtran1

'Cry Me A River' from the film 'The Girl Can't Help It'

  • Te amo imelda¡¡¡

  • love.

  • pure awesome!

  • Dublin's best!

  • I think she got the song names mixed up.

  • @jonahtran1 no the song is from the movie, the girl cant help it, one of jeff becks favourites.... :)

  • @creultothedarkness Haha. I figured that out later on. Thanks though.

  • lovely version

  • I think Jeff would like to have that 8/9 note back......Imelda was flawless as usual.

  • Lovely! Thanks for sharing:)
