Adobe Flash Tutorial: How to Merge Layers

I want to merge an object from one layer which features alpha, onto another layer, to create one image that contains transparency between the two objects. I'm making a pair of tinted glasses, but you can see a part of the glasses arms through the lens, and I want to create an object one layer in size that also adds the tint to the colour of the arms beneath. How would I do this?

To everyone saying they want to merge multiframe animations into one layer. Flash does not do that natively, but there is a trick I discovered.

1. Make sure your animation is on the root timeline.

2. Export to swf

3. IMport swf into a new FLA

4. Presto, you have a keyframe for each frame, and just one layer.

Sorry but this does not work so simple my friend. Because I am doing an animation and when I merge the 2 layers like you said I have to move each item in my animation 1 by 1 as they are on the same layer and I cannot select them all to move at once because if I do then it selects all my other layers too. So I cannot do this. It just messed up my animation and it was just getting frustrating so I kept the layers separate. Thanks anyways

@puertoricanboy2008 you can shift+click on each one to select both or you can lock all other layers and press ctrl+a, also i fyou want to treat the merged layers as one object, you can select the two and press crtl+g to group them or F8 to make them into a symbol which would also work.

Odd that you can merge layers in Photoshop but not Flash. Go figure.

@maskedmillionaire Photoshop uses pixels, so it's easier to merge layers. In Flash, it's vector. But there should be a way to at least group them, like in Illustrator. And not just by dumping them into a folder, either.
