  • amazing ^.^

im in like, a mini chinese 'band'....and i play guzheng....too bad they didnt show a lot of them...:(

  • This and Fei Tian are the 2 great chinese orchestra songs

  • So pretty. I really like it. --> I guess Prince of Egypt 'stole' the tune. Man, we Americans can't get anything right! (Except the way to beat anorexia. Haha)

  • totally feeling it too.

not enough concussion, not enough low frequency.

  • @godwatelsecani

  • @godwatelsecani

  • @godwatelsecani

  • fab :)

  • I like this beautiful melody.

  • c'est beau,

  • i use this song as the theme for China in several historical stragetic vedio games!

  • it sounds so familiar....

    lol...its "when you believe"

but this came first didn't it...cause it was like mariah and whitney got the music but didn't credit the chinese people right???

    something like that

but anyways this is an amazing song

  • It was composed by Mr Liu, Tieshan and Mr Mao, Ruan in 1950s. Originally, they wrote it as orchestral music; but later, another musician Mr Peng, Xiuwen transformed it into traditional Chinese tune in 1954. Thats why probable it sounds a bit unique as oppose to the other ones written purely in a Chinese style. It does incorporate the western style into Chinese tradition.

  • @tinyxue 10 years ago my school played this piece. We combined the Chinese orchestra with the symphonic band. That explains why we were able to blend the two.

  • I love it.

  • which came first this CHINESE SONG OR mariah carey or houston songs. for all we know this CHINESE SONG have been played and sang hundreds of years ago befire the american singer were concieved. how about that.

  • This song premiered in China in 1953. It predates "When You Believe" by several decades.

  • my question is which came first, this chinese music or the mariah carey song or houston song. for all the remarks, the two later singers may have copied the chinese music. how about that.

  • I still remember in the 80s when I was learning Erhu. My teacher used to play this song when I was so impressed that I try to imitate as a beginner. 8 years later, I joined a local Chinese Orchestra and have a chance to take part in playing (as Gaohu) the version you are hearing. I was so glad and thrilled. Thank you for the composer. You've inspired me for my interests in Chinese music for the past 25 years.

  • Lindo, Lindo!!!

  • when yuo dream of a chinese woman you see the flute lady with the yellow dress.

  • "oh my god the first part of this song is also the first 18 notes of the song When You Believe by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston"

    and??????????who copied?????hahaha

  • Who are the two principal musicians

    Fabulous.

  • 1:01 Song Fei?!!!!

  • This song is one of my favourite orchestral pieces. It brings to life the beautiful cultures and festivites of the Chinese indigenous peoples.

  • hey, singapore COs are not TAT bad...at least i can still play tis song...

  • yeah good point. Are you in a school CO?

  • @illusionates297 well..any1 can play this song..but doesnt mean any1 can play it GOOD..

  • oh my god the first part of this song is also the first 18 notes of the song When You Believe by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston

  • To bleen2511:

Oh only talking about notes, you're right. And that, proves music is not equal to notes or scores or rhythm...

I knew this melody in my childhood and I got to hear "I will" years after, already in my adolescence. I love both but I'd never got that conextion like you did... They are just totally different to me, and NOT because their notes are different since "-ful (song)".

We're able to love different things not because they might "share" sth that seems to be the same.

  • haha, what a coicidence, i was looking up When You Believe on wikipedia, and found out the first 18 notes are from here, so i came here to check it out, and the first comment i see is yours, lol

  • amazing right?! I was also shaked by this song!

  • hahaha really so similar woo

  • Cultivate thy ears, lady, before those bla-bla's!!!

  • excuse me what is laruan as i have not seen it or hear it??

  • The laruan is like a substitute for the cello, used in some Chinese orchestras. You can see a few of them in this video.

  • im chinese. you mean "daruan"

  • I think la ruan is the instrument that looks like a ruan but is bowed? You can see it in 06:46 at the bottom rigth hand corner.

  • @ BloodofTheWind

its called ge hu, its something like th chinese version of th cellos.

  • aren't they ge hu??

  • when we see in life

  • their gehu got snake skin or not ? why seems not same as HKCO's gehu ???

  • they aren't using gehu, but laruan, which has no snake skin.

  • lol ....icic ^^

    anyway ...thx ur teach ^^

  • you mean "gaohu"

  • how strange instruments.. I see it first time in my life.. wow..

  • The orchestra really brought out the spirit of the song, though it was played slower than the version our school played.

AHHH when can we ever play the song so well? *_*

  • Okay, people, this is a traditional Chinese piece, it's so much older than the theme song from Prince of Egypt. So, if anything, it is the latter that sounds like this piece, not the other way around.

  • Yes i agree with you. However, it's not composed for the Chinese orchestra originally, but for the symphony orchestra.

  • this song is for guzheng isnt it?

  • it is originally composed for the symphony orchestra, but of course there are many other versions of it arranged for different instruments.

  • it really look like prince of egypt.... a lot

  • @ m00nk00ki3...

you are referring to WHEN YOU BELIEVE right?

...a Chinese the arranger of that song and is the one responsible for the music. i think he copied? :)

  • i do not think so. It's mere coincidence i believe.

  • Listen to

"When you believe" By Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey

    Very similat to this.

  • This piece sounds very familiar. Was it used in a movie?

It's so beautiful. Thank you for uploading it!

  • the tune in this piece is very popular, though i dunno if it has been used in any movie. or maybe i should say it sounds like the theme from the Disney movie "Prince of Egypt".

  • Your right, it does sound a lot like 'Prince of Egypt'.

    Thank you.

  • @m00nk00ki3, We should say the reverse, 'Prince of Egypt' is a lot like this song. This is because when this song was composed, many other nations are still wearing banana leaves covering their body..

  • i love this song!!!

  • Wonderfully conducted.

Touching, dynamics wise and skill...what else can one expect from a national level orchestra.

  • Beautiful music.

I hope to hear more this kind of orchestra work.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • What is the name of the lady who plays the banboo flute? I love her so much!

  • Her name is Zeng Zhaobin, or Zeng Gege.

  • I only dun like the uniforms...lol...like it matters ^^ one of my fave songs (another is Qin Bing ma yong)

  • OMG...so much momeries this song can bring...I practised and played this song for a whole year when I was in middles school in China

  • This is the first piece I performed with my orchestra!!!

  • the part at 5:01 is amazing.

One of the song i love best in Chinese Orchestra~ Had the conductor score and it's really a good arrangement.. Heeez..

Can hear the Sheng very clearly during their solo too~~

    ^-^/

  • the starting tune is so touching, so touching, the emotion is so deep and permenant. words can't decribe it.

  • didn't you just describe it using words??

  • The way of the exploding fist

  • HAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
