  • This was sooo random :))

  • So this is definitely my favorite family guy clip...the only thing that would make it better is if one of the serfs yelled "help! help! I'm being repressed!" haha

  • @panzertiger2000 And then a cow will fall on that serf! Or a killer rabbit.

  • @fastasaswhale YES!... yes indeed. And if they had to seek out... A SHRUBBERY!!!!

  • history majors find this funny

  • You should upload the scene from Love, Blactually when Cleveland says "hahaha, we good Brian we goooooood!"

  • press 7 then 3 sounds like peter is saying bag pipe

  • reminds me of the episode where Peter rents out his basement to those rats/mice for farm land :D

  • 5 Serfs discovered literacy and found this offensive.

  • rofl

  • "that is just morbidly obese" please

  • OMG this is the funniest clip

  • HAHAHA Everyone says Family Guy is completely stupid, but its got its moments where you have to KNOW things to get the joke. xD

  • 1 person gained literacy! *Gasp*

  • Nothing, back to your turnips! LOL

  • Awesome clip!

  • I think this one may be a bit too high brow for even family guy, but it's still funny.

  • wow its great that all of you know how to use google........stfu.

  • Hahahahaha!! Epic

  • I really don't know how anyone can think of something like that :D:D

    it's so awesome xD

  • wat episode is this from

  • lmfao XD

  • I learned about this in my European History class, how Joseph the II of Austria ordered all Serfs be freed and most were illiterate so they didn't know they were free. This joke hit me like an iron fist in the middle of class.

  • I used to love Family Guy, now i hate it. But this little clip is still kinda funny.

  • The landlords were illiterate themselves? U never learned that. My teacher taught me that they were oppressors of the serfs with indentured servitude. They never mentioned if the landlords could read themselves.

  • @ToxicOdiousOne There's no doubt they opressed the serfs. King John signed the magna carta with a cross - it's possible he couldn't read or write. Lords believed their duty was to fight while the serfs provided the food and the clergy prayed. If people learnt to read it was only to read the bible - books were so expensive before the printing press that the covers were often encrusted with jewels.

Of course, it's not clear what time we're talking about - the medieval era lasted a long time.

  • It's the same reason why slave owners kept their slaves from becoming literate as they would realize their bondage. I don't know what books but basically it's Farenheight 451reasoning keep the subjects dumb and happy. Modern view? I guess. The idea was education would liberate them.

  • The serfs were prevented from gaining literacy because they would learn of freedom and their bondage.

  • @ToxicOdiousOne I think you're looking at history from a modern viewpoint. The serfs didn't learn to read and write because books were so expensive. Many lords and kings of the era were illiterate and it was only really the clergy that could read. Most people would not see the need for it.

What do you mean by freedom? And which books of the time would teach them about it?

  • i don't get it...

  • They look like the peasants from the King Authur movie.

  • family guy is so random

  • omg lol i love this
