It's actually not possible to draw a perfectly straight line in the physical world. Let's say you drew a line with a pencil. If you zoomed in, that line would have little bumps and holes in it. If you filled them in, and zoomed in more, you would see the bumps again. Continue to do this and you'd go to an atomic level and lower. It's so much fun thinking about the possibilities of infinite recursion...
For all of you butthead haters he made a good video. Yes it may have been random but i give it a thumbs up because he drew a relatively straight line.
B O R I N G! EVERYBODY knows how to draw a straight line. Aparently you wanted to show the whole world your new descovesy of what the whole world already knew.
lol my graphic teacher sats the exact opposite he draws a start and end point and doesnt use his wrist because it curves only goes top to bottom and goes very fast
It would be a lot faster to draw a straight line by pivoting with your elbow and connecting two points, spin your pad when you need to. Doing sketchy lines like that is not very accurate or fast. You should start by connecting two points that are close together, and as you get better make the points further apart. Ghost between the points to train your arm/brain/eye to connect the points, and then drop the line when you're confident. Don't move your wrist and just keep practicing.
@runescape44411 He's using a personalized style of speech, its a personal preference of his, and don't go correcting people when you can't spell grammar....
lol the slower you draw it the uglier it'll be.. this is a useless tutorial... just give it a fast stroke.. but sketching a line like this just ruin the whole paper or art piece
There is a real way to sketch a straight line on a piece of paper without a quick long stroke, but it does take a lot of practice. I'm sure you've seen a lot of professional artist use the method of drawing lines in increments. A good way is moving the lead across the pencil very quickly without lifting the pencil off the paper.
I've found this video through your "Fantasy Art School". Sorry, but you are so wrong about this - straight line (or any other line) drawn this way always looks hairy, amateurish, and ugly. Line drawn in a second, with one single stroke is the way to go , but it demands practice and experience. Anyway, you are just not ready to teach others to draw yet.
I hope you don't see my comment as malicious, it wasn't my intention. Join art classes held by some pro, it will help you much. Good luck!
No it's not. Using short strokes makes your 'straight lines' look like that creepy hair thing from 'grudge'. Try not using your wrist muscles and using your forearm muscles instead. When you need longer lines use your arm muscles.
or you could just practice technical drawing and save yourself time. The only reason you'd want to be able to draw a straight line is if you don't have a ruler or time to get one, doing it in short dashes means it takes longer than it would to just get the ruler.
It depends on what you want. If you want something practical, technical, you use the ruler. You really shouldn't for a drawing, because it does not look good.
Unless you're intending that very technical effect, of course.
For a nice line you practice doing it in one stroke, like chrisgt34 says below.
Hmm, Using a ruler to draw a straight line is more like having something else do all the work for you, so technically you're not drawing a straight line, you're actually just cheating your way out of a hard process. You are DRAWING a straight line if you DON'T USE A RULER while making one. XD
I disagree with this method! You could improve your penmanship skills and draw a straight line in one clean stroke, give it a go imagine your arm as a machine... bwahahha

THIS IS WRONG.
To draw a straight line, you draw ONE straight line. This take A LOT of practice, but it saves A LOT of time.
