  • @InecomCompany -

0:45 - It took me a while to get used to the feel of the smaller pad and I s'pose I'd like try out a "3 button size, 6 button pad" but, once I'd got used to the smaller size, rough feeling pad and new convex buttons, I was pretty quickly in love.

  • @bensons999

I was just reminiscing about the time we (me and my Megadrive) spent together and I remembered all the thumb blisters I got after extra long sessions with the 6-button pad that I never had before with the 3-button... Hmmm.

    Love hurts I guess..?

  • Don't use a Sega controller with Atari or Commodore, it will fry it over time!

  • you could play street fighter on 3 button controller. I had a SFII champions edition back in the days and my friend figure out that there is a two working modes, you change them when you press START. EX you start the game ABC buttons work as a punch, after you press start they work as a kick.. If you wanted to go back to punch you had to push a start again... luckly moves in street fighter are easy to engage so playing with a 3button controller is not a problem.

  • @krzysg1982 awesome! i never got it to work well with my 3 button original controller, but now im gonna kick bisons ass!

  • @krzysg1982 Ill have to try that sometime. I need to order a new controller anyways I already went through 3 in 2 months. I think it was really crappy brand Retro-pad or something.

  • Whenever I play Street Fighter 2 with a Genesis controller the D-Pad hurts my thumb and gives me blisters..

  • @Shatham3 i agree

  • Makes me want to go play Sonic 3.

  • eh, whats up whit the porn music?

  • @GAMERSHARK100 It's not porn music, it's CGR music.

  • I ordered a Saturn controller on ebay, and ended up getting this one...

  • @aBoxfulOfVids Send it back, they're dumbasses.

  • @MrSaturn33 can't, merchant doesn't do returns

  • yeah, what do you use the mode button for??? one of the best controllers ever made!!! can someone help???

  • @aztc1979 Apparently some games were not compatible with the 6-button pad, so pressing the Mode button would make the game think it was a standard 3-button controller. Although in my experience I never found any games that didn't work with it.

  • Thats right, you eat them, like a cookie

  • i remember that i had this long time ago, and it had 6 buttons +2 buttons at my index finger

  • how should I use the mode button?

  • @jowrab and the sega saturn 3d controller was the template for the dreamcast controller

  • BTW i own Sega megadrive 1 and 2, and Mark - totally awesome :)

  • I live in eastern europe, and there is not a single shop that sells retro consoles, but today i walk into this shop i go once a month and BAM this exact controller brand new, was 3 euros, i asked if theres anything more consoles, games- nothing, but im so happy :)

  • Mine looks different???

  • Essentially it's the Sega Saturn controller on the Genesis...Which is awesome!

  • i remember having a clear controller for my genesis and that controller for my genesis but i was young and i was kinda holding an ice lolly in my hand and i wrecked the contoller

  • Man I miss my old 6 shooter.

  • Oh man, I remember when I got this for Christmas of say 94 or 95 when I was about 6 years old. Happiest days of my gaming life! :)

  • Nintendo should make a 6 button arcade stick for wii!

  • @THEmomsqaud2 They did i believe, its big and white and plugs into the wiimote (like a classic controller)

  • You should mod street fighter so you could play as a character eating dog named Stella'

  • Stella; eating people like cookies in fighting games since 2008.

  • I need one of these, the d-pad on the regular Genesis controller is too sharp and they can turn unresponsive.

  • I don't have my sega genesis anymore but i still have one of those 6 button controllers sitting in a drawer in my room. The last remaining relic of my much missed 16 bit gaming days :(. I'm probably gonna pick up another genesis one day. I really regret selling mine back in the day

  • i know your not the one to do this sort of thing but would you do a top 5 - 10 best videogame controllers ever

  • looks cool

  • In Japan the 6-Button Controller was the standard Controller for the Model 2 Mega Drive in 1993.

  • Of all the pads I've had for a variety of consoles, this is an absolute gem.

The size isn't an issue and the D-pad is excellent (not the same at all, the older one was a lot stiffer). My six button still works fine and overall seems more robust than the older ones (I got through two of those).

    P.S. Hello woof :)

  • This controller was perfect for my smaller hands when I was just a lad. I thought the d-pad was more responsive, as well. To bad not many games used the three extra buttons. I only remember using them for Toejam and Earl 2.

  • what happens when you do play SF II with a 3 button controller? what controller does mortal kombat use by the way?

  • @hongdekong Then you have to use start to switch the three buttons between punches and kicks.

Most people like to play Mortal Kombat with a six button controller, but a three button can work with it too.

  • This is why i bought the SFIV fightpad for Xbox360. It reminded me of this when my older brother used to play SFII with this controller for sega. lol good times

  • I have this controller 2 is worth it!

  • looks like a wired boomerang, best controller Dreamcast!

  • My 6-Button Controller is a knockoff and the wire is very short so i'm stuck with the 3-button

  • Man, i loved my Sega Genesis ;'(. I remember my genesis controller had the copper wires partly showing through the top, and it still worked fantastic! They made shit tough back then.

  • ya the innovation sucks i had got it and within 3 days it broke

  • I bought one of these recently to play Beyond Oasis ( yeah you dont need it, but for the heck of it). I must admit this controller is absolutely perfect for my hands, after years of not playing with Sega products I am a believer again.

Its no wonder when i first played on a PSone I felt so uncomfortable, a if I was holding on to some kind of torture device. I eventually got used to it and dismissed as personal bias, not anymore.

  • i love street fighter 2

  • Best pad ever. I remember drooling over this controller when I saw in a magazine. I saved all my allowance for it.

  • Does this one not have a mode button on the shoulder?

  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat the six is a must

  • i got two 3-button controllers with SUPER street fighter 2 on my genesis, i might need a 6-button though.

  • i like SNES and mario RPG.

  • this is my favorite controller of all time.

  • This is the best controller ever made

  • I always loved this control, the D-pad was so smooth to move, it had so great feeling at touch.. I totally agree with Da1shocker, this was one of the best controllers ever made!

    Thanks for this great review!

  • i love the dog :)

  • The d-pad is basically the same? Bollocks mate. The d-pad is 10x better on the 6-button. It's raised up, has a looser feel and rotational movements are smooth as silk.

One off the best pads ever made IMHO. Luverly! :)

  • When i was kid i had "Dendy Junior 2" russian unofficial clone of nes, which looked almost exactly like sega mega drive, with 6 button controller (actualy x,y,z was turbo a,b,c), a,b was standart and c was extra button with some additional action which worked not in all games. If you google for dendy 2 pics you'll see it, it was awesome, my favourite console, i made big mistake when sold it.

  • I loved playing the sega genesis but I had one problem with it which was the button durability of the directional and action buttons on the official controllers were garbage. I cant tell you how many times I switched the button pads around or replaced them entirely and I am careful with my controllers, and for the most part I have never had any durability problems with any other controllers to any other console except the sega genesis, otherwise the genesis is great. Mad catz brand is best

  • He seems to forget how fucking short this cable is. If you're going to use this controller, find an extension cable or something.

  • This actually IS the best Controller ever made (imho). I'll NEVER understand why they started to build controllers with 4 thumb- buttons AND shoulder buttons instead. 6+ buttons = ok, 4+ buttons = wtf?!

Go into arcades, and find a machine with 4 buttons in the front and 2 buttons to press with your dick. Worst decision ever made...

  • The 6 button controller is a little ugly but I would still like to own one for my wii. You can use these controllers with the use of a wii.

  • @jlenoconel

lol, often it does'nt even get in. XD

  • That is one of the best controllers ever made.

  • @Da1shocker That is the best controller ever made.

  • This controller is indeed THE SHIT, and if you have a Genesis and dont have this controller, the smartest thing to do would be to buy it ASAP.

Oh, and it is really comfortable with Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2

  • YEP! it indeed, must agree. You know some times I wonder why the hell did game companies(all of them) stop making 6-thumb-botton controllers,

    Why? I ask Why?

  • 2:34

more like FATALITY from mortal kombat (sic)

  • 1:08 digital pad? dont you mead D-pad lmao

  • @Evansmustard actually, the D in D-Pad stands for digital, cool huh.

  • It's actually stands for directional.

  • i always thought its was called directional pad

  • @hybridRace32

O ive always thought it meant directional lol thx

  • Actually it stands for directional. Why the hell would it stand for digital?

  • The full technical term is Digital Directional Pad, shortened as Digital Pad, Directional Pad, or D-Pad. Meaning it can be referred to as directional or as digital.

  • @fwe4life Actually, both would be considered correct. Yes it is more commonly known as a directional pad for obvious reasons. But it does work digitally. On or off, 1 or 0 .

  • lol idiot d means digital.

  • i got two of these when i got my sega. i never had a 3 button one and i'm thankful :)

  • What about the mode button? I forgot what game(s) actually used it... if any did. I love this controller. I recently got the InterAct SG Propad 6 with all of the turbo features and button mapping but its nothing close to the comfort and functionality of this.

  • Best controller of all time.

  • yup, I totally agree, it really is one of, if not THE best, controller ever made :D

the D-Pad was so good, it spoiled you. Playing on other consoles just wasn't good enough after playing in this control pad :P to this day, in all gamepads I buy, I try to go for the one with the most similar D-Pad to the Sega Genesis 6-button pad ^^

and maybe it's just me, but I've never uncomfortable with the pad on my hands, and it's very light too!

kudos to Sega for such a great controller =)

  • Defenetly and totally agree.

    BEST CONTROLLER EVER MADE

    PERIOD!!

  • @PimpUigi What about the sega dreamcast controller?

  • good with mk3

  • i got 2 6 buttons controllers when i got my genesis

  • Dude I have 2 requests Mario kart 64 review and MORE DAWG

  • comparing the 6button controller d-pad to 3button controller d-pad is the same as comparing a baseball bat to a toothpick

  • Did thay bring a infered wireless version out?

i think my mate had one

  • The Genesis 6-button controller had the best D-pad for fighting games until the Saturn and Playstation controllers. At that time it was THE way to play Street Fighter.

  • wierd, my 6 button has like a switch for turbo and slow and a different mode button

  • Actually, the Sega Saturn controller(which is the successor to this one) has been remade officially by Sega for recent consoles like the PS2 for releases like Darkstalkers and Street Fighter compilations and they always sell out at import shops. So, people do still seek out this controller design for their favorite fighting games...and Sega still uses this design..

  • I've got the Jap version, the lead is far too bloody short so I normally just stay with my Arcade stick...

  • This controller is the best controller EVER....no contest, even the JP Saturn controller can't touch this. It's small and the D-pad is so good.

  • The dog is the reason why i watch your videos-seriously

  • I much preferred the smaller controller.

  • lol its funny how consoles like the vectrex are worth much more than the ps3 or xbox 360 now

  • lol especaly how they could release all those gameson them.

  • You forgot to mention what the MODE botton does on top of the controller. I never knew what it did...

  • Man i loved this controller. Still the best d-pad ever.

  • Is this d-pad easier to move? I didn't really like the regular controller's.

  • Oh yeah man. You probably cant see it in the video, but the pad itsel feels a bit rubbery and it is smooth as silk. This thing made playing street fighter on genesis a lot more fun than other systems.

  • no, he said it's the same

  • what about the ds lite`s d pad thats awesome as well.

  • Daaaaamn you have huge hands

  • it looks like a fucking boomerang. haha

  • I have a 6 button turbo controller made by Sega, and another one by Performance, which looks EXACTLY THE SAME

  • do the 6 button controller works on the model 1 ? because i want to buy one, and i can't find the 3 button controller

  • it will work if you cant find one you can have my two

  • The whole point of CGR is that it's a relaxed look back at the systems, games and controllers of old. It goes at its own pace, and takes its time.

  • Thats right, youd eat them....

    like a cookie! lol

  • Does the 6-button controller work with the Model 1 Genesis?

  • yea, of course......

  • Comment removed

  • Im just waiting for that dog to go crazy

  • i wanna know something, what do the MODE button is for? i never knew

  • Switches between 3 & 6 button mode.

  • my pal had megadrive with 3-button controller. but i dont know did his megadrive came with 6-button controller. he buy it from his cousin.

  • I just wanna know what the hell happened to Street Fighter 1?

  • It is a terrible arcade game. It isn't good enough to get a modern port.

  • @SimpleReviewsChannel

It was only on TurboGrafx16, Which was a very underrated console that didn't sell very well because nobody owned it. But Street Fighter 1/Fighting Street sucked anyways compared to Street Fighter 2.

  • @Cheetah1251 Yeah, but you didn't explain it in greater detail,go see the AVGN review on Street Fighter 2010,only on Gametrailers

  • @SimpleReviewsChannel Well it was on the system that was behind Genesis and SNES,it was the Turbo Grafix 16,Street Fighter was on many Computers and it was originally made as an Arcade game, the TurboGrafix16 version sucked.....wanna here more? Watch the AVGN's review on Street Fighter 2010!

  • @SimpleReviewsChannel it was called a different thing than street fighter when it first came out the sequle changed it to street fighter

  • @GamerBoyGod It came out on the TurboGrafx CD as "Fighting Street". The arcade game was not too great (the original machine had very shoddy pressure-sensitive plungers for punch/kick that broke easily).

  • @SimpleReviewsChannel I have a copy of SF1, but only on the SNES

  • @SimpleReviewsChannel It sucked... that's it.

  • @SimpleReviewsChannel "Street Fighter 1" was an arcade game that was ported on the comodore, and several home computers, and it was ported on the Turbo-Grafix 16. But unfortunetly, hardley anybody had a Turbo-Grafix 16. Also the game was renamed to "Fighting Street", and it sucks ass.

  • @SimpleReviewsChannel street fighter one sucked ass believe it or not, look on avgn's page for his review of street fighter 2010 to see all that info

  • @SimpleReviewsChannel It was an arcade game. Street Fighter 2 and up were the only ones released on consoles.

  • This was the controller that SEGA thought it was cooler and better to have more buttons but they were proven wrong by the SNES and it was really unesscary to have 6 buttons.

I've never owned a SEGA console in my life but I could sure play Street fighter and Mortal kombat a lot easier on the SNES.

  • Um... Weak, medium and hard on both kicks and punches needs 6 buttons. More attack choice meant better tactics and therefore led to better players.

Now we have shoulder buttons, clickable analogue stick etc... Care to complain?

  • The 6 button controller has been taken out of all designs you see today because of the complexity.

Shoulder buttons do not count as face buttons because they are put on top of the controller in a much more conveinient place where the player can easily reach them.

The standard we see now is 2 analogue sticks, 4 face buttons and 3 or 4 shoulder buttons.

  • 6 buttons werent removed it was more to do with snes it just had a better design than the six button controller and its shows

  • This design was a standard made by Nintendo's Single Analogue stick controller at first, then Sony produced the dualshock to which propted Nintendo to make the GCN controller then Xbox got innovative.

If SEGA had it their way then we would have 6 button controllers instead of taking advantage of a shoulder button/trigger area.

  • nice ending

  • i love the sega mega drive ( sega genesis) my first and only game console it was all pc after that

  • Ive always wondered what the MODE buttons does.

  • tell us about the mode button on the right corner of the controller

  • best controller ever.

  • Genesis FTW!

  • 6-button ftw!

  • I agree, the 3 Button is one of the best controllers ever made, I like it more than playstation (1,2 and 3) controllers with their stupid "handles" and (on the ps3) those horrid triggers that curve the wrong way!

  • You didn't mention the mode button tho :( Some games actually did use it

  • What did they use it for? I never had a game that made use of it.

  • Some other games probably used it but I know that I played a game with cars racing around a track and shooting each other, from an overhead view. I totally forget the name of it but the mode button did something. Pretty vague but I played it on Sega Channel one time.

  • It was called Combat Cars. If you get your hands on Combat Cars for the Sega Genesis, make sure to press the mode button on your 6-button controller.

  • Were Mode button ?

  • So that's y i could only punch in Street Fighter II. I'm an idiot. lol

  • I agree the original genesis/mega drive controller is the best controller even made.

  • i loveeeeeeee your dog he is so cute atleast i am guessing he is a he

  • Also, I can't believe you said the D-pad is still the same, the 6 button D-pad is much better than the regular Genesis D-pad.

  • The 3 Button D Pad I find to be more responsive. Open up both controls and see how the internal construction is completely different, the 6 button uses a more compact design that just doesn't cut it.

  • This is the best gamepad EVER. It's so small, light, the buttons are awesome, the D-pad is much better than the regular D-pad. This controller is awesome.

  • I think that the Sega Saturn controller is even better, because the shape is more elegant and has nice textures. It also has triggers.

  • You look sad on that video D:

  • i played nintendo with this gamepad

  • the best megadrive controller is the wireless version

  • Just got a dozen of these. Had a lot of luck modding the 3 button to USB so thought I'd do the 6...just finished the first one and it's working great on my emulator!

  • Still have it.

    Still working

  • in my country its called the sega megadrive

  • Does anyone know if I could get a controler like this for the pc? I really need a 6 button with this style.

  • the 6 button is smaller so kids can play I think

  • the 16 bit controls were the best!

  • Damn! I remember that controller, I use to play with it all the time back in the days expecially street fighter 2 mainly and what I hate most about the original sega genesis controller is you have to push start button to toggle between hp+hk to lp+lk.

  • You can't play all regular SEGA games with the 6-button controller. I tried it with Mrs. Pac Man and it has some problem with the D-Pad. That's the only game with problems, though, as far as I know.

  • My six button controller is even smaller...I think it's called the "Nyko". I didn't realize Sega made their own

  • your thumb fits nicely into it

    ...

    gigidy

  • My favourite Genesis controller! :D

  • this controller reminds me of a Sega Saturn controller

  • I used to have one of those but the controller had purple X Y Z buttons!!! i still play steer fighter 2 but sadly i dont have the six button controller so i have to press start to go from punching to kicking but after a while pressing start becaomes instinctive and no longer really becomes a big deal. Great Review!!!

  • not digital-pad its DIRECTIONAL-PAD!!!!

  • Actually the controller has a digital directional pad. A digital pad can only tell if one of the directions is pressed or not as opposed to an analog directional pad or analog control stick which is capable of sensing multiple levels of pressure for more precise control. He might have just been pointing out what type of control pad the controller has.

  • 2:30 :D

  • "That's right: you'd eat them. Like a cookie."

The CGR dog doing her thing ^_^
