  • great stuff. love keith rowe, frith, kaiser, jim o'rourke, all the noisey guys...

  • This is cool! any tips on how to do prepared guitar? i can't find any sort of tutorial on how to start, i got some cool sounds by using a paper clip but that's about it.

  • this is unusual... trippy soundscapes....this plus some darkpsy would be real interesting. great job ...cuz the first video of noise music i saw made me hit my computer. (it was a lady in A B/W video). this is really good sound design sir.

  • I just love noise music! I really don't know why, but I just do so much!

  • nice setup, check mine out

  • Let the guy do what he wants guys. I don't necessarily like the texture of what you're doing man, but I applaud you for doing what you enjoy. I prefer just beating the guitar out of tune with the distortion after my reverb tank for some explosion sounds, and maybe banging the strings with a screwdriver. OH, and take the plastic plate off the back and the trem springs make for some interesting noise too.

    All the best!

  • Far out.

  • interesting effect. i like the way the notes mute out rather then sustain. combined with the feedback it really does sound like bells. lysergic bells.

  • This is strangely calming and transfixing. Almost otherworldly.

  • @moneyquickeasy Thanks! :)

  • The sad thing is, if ANY of you saw David GIlmour doing this, you'd be screaming with joy.

  • @MichaelEMJAYARE Thanks for this really nice comment. I am happy about all the positive comments and I don't really mind mind the negative.

I am sure David Gilmour would do it a million times better - but thanks. :)

  • really really awful :(

  • @cheesespin Sorry about that! ;)

  • what the fuck is this man doing to that stratocaster...

  • Fucking bad!!!!

  • @Slashpower156 Big thanks!!!

  • @Slashpower156 all prepared guitar vids are bad.

  • If you don't mind me asking, how exactly do you prepare a guitar like on here? Cuz every time ive tried it still sounds real um...melodic.

  • @ChainsawSerpent Uhm... It's been a while since I made this video, but as far as I recall I stuck a toothpick and a flatpick (plectrum) under the strings in two different places. That's what make it kind of sound like bells.

However some of the overall sound comes from the guitarpedals, mainly the flanger and the delay. I find a delay indispensable.

Try to put someting under the strings. That should kill the melodic-ness pretty fast. Sorry about the late answer. :)

  • Oh God it stopped loading at 0:06 those eyes stared into my soulll D:

  • @universalsingularity LOL! I hope you're okay! :)

  • It acually doesnt sound that bad. ^^

  • @RikaRulez Thanks :)

  • i'll look for a cheap guitar...

  • @cikankisminozeti Good idea! You don't need an expensive guitar to make noise. ;)

  • very cool

  • I LOVE your sounds. Paintbrush wasn't too impressive though (try scrubbing a toothbrush on the sixth string in between 12th fret harmonics- fun stuff) Otherwise it was pretty cool. Reminds me a little of A Million Years by Wolf Eyes because of the space between sounds and the slow crescendo.

  • niiice

  • what effects do u use to make this noise?

  • @0rfe4s The "preparations" are a flatpick and a toothpick under the strings. The effects are BB preamp (slight distortion), TC SFC (Flanger) and Boss DD-3 (delay).

  • @ThumbsAtWork thank u very much :)

  • yea baby

  • I loved it, those sounds with the brush were amazing!

  • @Jimlead Absolutely! Thank God we have freedom of speach an Thank God we don't have to like the same things. :-)

  • It often takes a strong background in music theory to create proper noise music.

  • @CodyRicheson I agree 100%. Like everything else it is better to know the rules before you bend or break them. I have a couple of years music theory on highschool level - not exactly a strong background - and I don't claim to make proper noise music. I'm just fooling around. Nothing serious. ;-)

  • i have been a guitar player for a long time now and i must say it kind of hurts me to see my beloved instrument being used in such a wrong way. i don't care what other people will say, this ''thing'' isn't playing. a guitar has frets and strings for a reason, striking the strings with a paint brush is not the way to do it. the reason why i'm angry is because you people are actually being praised for doing this, when real educated and talented musicians remain unnoticed.

  • i have been a guitar player for a long time now and i must say it kind of hurts me to see my beloved instrument being used in such a wrong way. i don't care what other people will say, this ''thing'' isn't playing.say whatever you want but a guitar has frets and strings for a reason, striking the strings with a paint brush is not the way to do it. the reason why i'm angry is because you people are actually being praised for doing this, when real educated and talented musicians remain unnoticed.

  • @DistortionGainTreble I'm sure nobody here means to disrepect talented musicians, who can actually play. I certainly don't.

Anyway thanks for taking your time to comment and explain your anger. I don't neccesarily agree with you on that noise music takes anything away from educated and talented musicians. I also don't think there's a wrong way to play any instrument. But I appreciate your explanation. Thanks. :-)

  • @DistortionGainTreble "Real educated"... Mmmm, as far as guitar goes, almost every single person who made a real contribution (Jimi, Clappo,May;Page,EVH;Zappa, etc etc etc) was a self-taught musician. If you´re being "educated" (or trained, like a dog) it could get more difficult to develope a personal view & style.

Beyond the platoon of smart, risky&creative musicians, lies a deep ground of cheap copycats who play fast enough and can´t even tell what the hell they´re doing. That´s a FACT...

  • funny how hateful and offended people get whenever it's about experimental/noise/drone/ambient music. Almost the same reaction as when electrical guitars came up. Shock Horror and Blasphemy! If you can't relate to it, just skip, dammit. No reason to get so offended, makes you look ridiculous. Even more than you suppose this kind of music is.

  • @hansiipansii I too wonder why people get so upset. It's kind of interesting, though. Thanks for your support. :-)

  • So it's ONLY noise. So why are so many people upset by it?

  • @neeeiiiilll Exactly! It's just noise. Nothing much to get upset about, as far as I can see. :-)

  • This guy can't play the guitar. Whatever makes you feel like a musician I guess...

  • it's a guitar, stop rubbing shit on it and make something that sounds nice you bog rat, go back to the fucking factory you leant this dreaful noise from. i bet your parents are spinning in their graves/urns/ wherever you buried the cunts that their son couldn't understand the simple fucking meaning of a guitar and how to play it nicely. Twat.

  • @hot4belgians Thanks for watching my video and taking the time to make a comment. Have a nice day. And good luck with the belgians.

  • @hot4belgians Noise is the most Beautiful type of Music.

  • A.k.a Autism Music. What's next? Fart music where the guy fart in the trumpet for 4'33''? This is the decline of aesthetic. It's like music paraphilia.

  • @anhbht Thanks for your interesting comment. I like the reference to John Cage. Did you know that there's a website called "music for autism"? BTW I have an urge to go further with the decline of aesthetics. :-)

  • @GHEE4345 Thanks man! That's a HUGE compliment. Syd was great. :-)

  • Thank you very much, I listened to noise music several times. when you listen to it and do not watch video it is some kind of mood excellently performed on guitar. Thank you :)

  • +1

    :D

  • dude yer fuckin awesome! one of the best iv seen on youtube,

  • gamno!gamnoooo!!!!

  • 2;10 so cool sounds like orbital

  • Great,,,

  • Awesome. Love the Britney Spears-infuences.

  • hahahahasas, you are funny man. hehe

  • dude this is fucking awsome sounds great

  • like a syd barrett sound?

  • Oh yes - Indeed I do!

    :-)

  • Wow dude, I'm usually not a big fan of prepared guitar but you've got a nice style! Really sci fi and mellow.

  • Thanks! I try to combine the experimental noise with a bit of melody. Glad you like it. :-)

  • Reminds me of Throbbing Gristle. Check out "After Cease to Exit [the Original Soundtrack of the Coum Transmissions"

    It's very alike, I think.

  • Thanks man, that's a huge compliment. TG was here in my town a couple of months ago, but the tickets were sold out in no time, so I missed the show. Damn!

Thanks for the nice comment. :-)

  • i really liked it, keep going :)

  • nice, the brush was a neat idea.

  • Thanks man. Glad you like it :-)

  • great job man i have jsut starting messing around with prepared guitars after a recent obcession with sonic youth but i have yet to make something this cool

  • Glad you liked it.:-)

I'd like to see what you get out of your experiments with prepared guitar. You should make a video about it ;-)

  • Very cool sounds my man!

Is the delay generating those little semi-melodies behind the main noise, or the flange?

I've done some prepared guitar stuff myself but I mostly work with pedal noise, this video has got me interested in guitar again, thank you.

  • Hi Naynap81086, Thanks man, I'm glad you like it. :-)

I'm not quite sure what you refer to by "semi-melodies", Maybe it's the combination of the flanger and the delay: Sometimes it seems that it causes some of the overtones to clash, kind of like a ring modulator. I'm not sure if that's what's happening here though.

I'm glad this video got you back to the guitar. Pedal noise is interesting. You should video it and post it on YouTube ;-)

  • What does prepared guitar mean?

  • Hi bioduck42 - A Prepared Guitar is a guitar with some objects placed under, between or on the strings. In this case a toothpick and a flatpick. The term comes from John Cages "Prepared Piano". There are entrances on Prepared Guitar aswell as Prepared Piano in Wikipedia. Thanks for your interest. :-)

    Best regards, Joe

  • Thanks!

  • Hello, very good performance. I want to buy a console from 4 to 6 inputs to connect 2 electric guitars, a bass and a microphone. Which of the following brands offer better quality: Behringer, Phonic or SKP? Thank you very much for your reply, regards.

  • Hi pankudowics, thanks for your comment. I'm glad you like my performance. Mostly it's just an experiment with sound - just fooling around.

I'm sorry, but I don't think I can be of much help regarding your choice of mixing console. I've had the Behringer console for about 10 years now and I never had any problems with it. It works well for what I need. I don't know anything about the two other brands you mention.

    Best regards, Joe.

  • It has been observed that most people who make noise music own at least one piece of Behringer equipment; usually a mixer.

    Coincidence?

    :-)

  • Lol, sounds like an horror movie for some reasons XD

    Awesome, keep it up!

  • Thanks :-)

  • noise music? it's an interesting piece, but i wouldn't call it noise

  • Thanks. I'm glad you think it's interesting. I'm curious: If you wouldn't call it noise, then what would you call it? :-)

  • same guy here. would call it ambient drone with a bit of psychedelia within.

  • wowEE! fantastically rad sounds HERE.

  • Thanks man :-)

  • This is great. I like the fact your not varying the amount of effects, just manipulating the ones you have. Its like if you limit yourself a small handful of things then your forced to be more creative with what youve got. Very clever.... Oh, ands a stunning piece too...

  • Thanks luckyphilster,

I'm glad you like it. I sure enjoyed making it.

Thanks for subscribing. You Rock! :-)

  • Love the sound dude, nice

  • Thanks Szaam,

    Glad you like it :-)

  • very Silent Hill-esque. I wish I could afford a good guitar and some cool effects. Preparing a guitar is easy enough.

Good job though, sounds awesome. :P

Most people cna't play guitar well alone let alone improvise well.

  • Thanks MisterMisanthropy,

I haven't seen Silent Hill, but your comment got me interested, so I went out and bought it on DVD today ;-)

Thanks for the nice comment. I hope you get yourself a good guitar some day :-)

  • i'd suggest downloading the soundtrack. The OST for Silent Hill 2 (it was a game originally but the movie encompasses the music pretty well), is probably the best in terms of a good mix of industrial, ambient and dark ambient. :)

  • Thanks for the suggestion. Do you have any idea where I can find the download?

Big thanks for favoriting this video :-)))

  • Very awesome, sometimes it seems that making and listening to noise is the only thing to keep us all sane. The paint brush is amazingly cool sounding. Good choice for effect set up, gives it a nice echoing ambiance.

  • Thanks - I'm glad you like it. Yes, the paintbrush sound is cool. I also like the "crazy fingers". :-)

  • kick ass! I want to learn how to make more noises! for my live music!

  • Thanks! Hope you find some nice new noise for your show! :-)

  • i like it, sounds cool

  • Thanks man, I'm glad you like it :-)

  • noise is the way forward, could do more to look at thou

  • Thanks. I agree about the visuals. I could learn something from you.

Thanks for subbing. I've subbed back. I like your music as well as your videos. :-)

  • Very interesting.

I think noise music would be more popular with visual effects.

  • Thanks. I'm glad you like it. You are right about the visual effects. Thanks for the constructive criticism.:-)

  • interesting! love&brain.

5stars for u from far east Japan.

  • Thanks my friend, I'm glad you like it. I've checked out your videos and you make some really interesting stuff. I like your experiments - Keep on rocking!

    Thanks for the rating! :-)

    Cheers, Joe.

  • thank u 4 watching.

I have to check your others vid.

  • I like it. It would go good in a movie.

  • Thanks - glad you like it. I can see what you mean about the movie. It'd have to be a spooky movie, though, something like "Blair Witch Project", don't you think?

  • Well The blair witch project is one of my favorite movies despite others critisism. But yea I think it would. See this is stuff like I do on guitar making new tones and sounds.

  • An artist under the influence of LSD :)

Herbal tea is safe to consume with caution.

    Great - love it

  • Thanks my friend. I'm glad you like it. I had fun making it. I might even do some more - so be warned.

Herbal tea - I'm all for it! :)

  • Hmmm

  • Hehehe ;)
