There are a couple of other bands that hardcore Switchfoot fans should check out: Mortal, and Fold Zandura. Jerome Fontamillas, Switchfoot's keyboard and backup guitar player, used to play bass and sing in both of these bands. Mortal is especially awesome, but unfortunately there are not very many videos posted for the band especially for the Mortal album 'Wake'. Trust me - these two bands are totally worth checking out.
@Switchfootfreak99 Haha, you make me laugh! How can you say "this album was so bad"? If this is bad to you, I don't understand why you've called yourself "Switchfootfreak". It's the same like loving the half of a person or being half-addicted to a drug... hahaha. But OK. If you don't like Switchfoot's beginning and the musical experience they had collected on their long way to the commercial music scene... great. To me it's one of their best albums! But that means I can't be a real freak, right?
@Switchfootfreak99 look... this album isn't bad. it's surprisingly amazing and refreshing. It has an earthy, simplistic, yet powerful. it has a nice raw feel that you rarely see in todays music... it's why i like it .o.
If you listen close at the beginning of the song you hear a dedication to Charlton Heston, the actor who played Ben Hur in the epic film way back when.
If you've watched the film, or read the book, you would know the storyline is rather religious, but this song has very little to do with that story.
Oldschool Switchfoot is the best. I bought their first album back when I was fifteen years old. Somewhere I always knew that if their music would ever get noticed they would be huge.
Old switchfoot is where it's at. Heard this album for the first time about 12-13 years ago when I was a wee lad at Pine Cove Towers. This song had me hooked.
oh rly, glad you explained that because it's not possible to know Switchfoot meant been her from listening to the song... and listen to Cici... good movie
Now you got me curious... what's the Charlton Heston reference about? Oo
An ingenuous joke?

Charlton Heston played Ben Hur in the epic movie.

I know that. But I can't understand the relation beetwen the film and the subject of the song...

Short answer, there isn't one apart from the dedication and the title.

I love how Switchfoot just put this album together in their dorm room as college students. Garage bands think this was raw material.

i didn't know all of that!
i'm just hooked on this song.
for some reason it's weird for me to hear jon write about this.
but he DOES say, that we writes about things he doesn't know.. like girls..
i mean, but there's a whole meaning behind the song..
these guys are geniuses, hhahahha.

You know why it's "Ben Hur" right.
I like the fact that at the beginning they dedicate the song to Charlton Heston.

@CiciLioness why is it "Ben Hur"? I've never read the book or seen the movie, which is weird since I'm such a cinephile.
