My J E S U S you are useless. Quite clearly you are bias. You own a d7000.
Anyone who's used the two pick the 7D in REAL reviews.
You read info and regurgitate. You hardly do the testing yourself. You're a complete nuisance and I really hope people don't base big purchase decisions on anything you spit out.
I had both. Miss the easiness of switching through and changing the settings on the D7000 BUT love the video on the 7D. I really wish Nikon would have the same video mode. Both damn good camera's. Would recommend the d7000 for newer users.
Up into half the video, this guy was truthful, the specs were perfect...but then he turned into a Nikon commercial... He started missing little specs that were better on the 7D... Like a FULL magnesium body on the 7D and only partial on the D7000... Why would Nikon get a point there? Except for weight, the 7D is more sturdy.
rulerofwax24 is wrong. For someone looking to get into DLSR for the first time but want to leap over the entry level rebel this range of camera comparision is what im looking for.
I like the video but its too long for the amount of information learned.
7000 vs 7 is pointless. If you are considering either, you would already have a more basic DSLR and glass. Anyone who would end up going straight in to DSLR's with one of these, it wouldn't matter what they got. They just have enough money to go for the fanciest shit and not care.
@netjunkie9 He's talking about high-ISO noise. Other types of image quality have more to do with the lens and the photographer's skill. I've done paid gigs using everything from a 6-mp Nikon D50, to a Canon Rebel, and all the way up to the $3000-cameras, and customers can't tell the difference if the photographer uses good glass and knows what he's doing. For the most part, the camera body is a box for the lens to sit on. As far as overall image clarity goes, the Nikon is no better than Canon.
I've used Nikon DSLRs for 7 years (D200 for the past 5) and was going to upgrade to the D7000. After days of side-by-side comparison, I ended up with the Canon 7D. NOTE: image quality is more about the lens you're using than the sensor! Also, it's customary to show image comparisons (same shot from each camera) and let the buyer make up their own mind. Overall, 7D = better (coming from a lifelong Nikon user). Also, there's no PC-sync port on the D7000! Major fail! That's important for pros.
It's not a biased review. It's just specification facts. The D7000 is newer than the 7D, so the D7000 will have slightly newer technology in it, such as the sensor and ISO ranges.
@aaronkelley100 It IS a biased review though. He trivializes the advantages of the 7D over the D7000 (and even ignores some of them), and emphasizes the advantages of the D7000 (i.e. low-light noise, dual card slots). He neglects to mention the compatibility of external light usage (a big deal to serious photographers): there's no sync port on the D7000, forcing photographers to get a hot-shoe adapter. I love Nikon (used it for 7 years) but got the 7D over the D7000 after detailed comparisons.
I think they are both great cameras. But he left out an important point. The buffer. The 7D has a much larger and faster buffer than the D7000 when shooting in RAW. One might say that it is not important because they don't shoot sports, however a small buffer when shooting in RAW is always an annoyance no matter what you shoot.
The bottom line is IMAGE QUALITY! All of the bells & whistles doesn't matter. Cannons are easier to use and it's movie mode a bit better than the Nikon's. Although when it comes to raw quality of the final product (the picture), the Nikon wins. That is what my clients pay for, they don't care about how functional my camera is, they just want QUALITY PIX!
LOL you all make me laugh as someone with both cameras i would say the Canon feels better in the hands where as the D700 is slightly to cramped the image quality is very close The Nikon is perhaps very slightly better with sharpness but colour representation and coontrast detail is Canon's the ISo rating is on par up to 6400 then Nikon wins to be fair shooting weddings i never go above that so it is irrelevant......BOTH ARE GOOD BUT IF I HAD A SHOOT IN THE NEXT 5 MINS I WOULD PICK THE CANON.
more features in the d7000 ? it doesnt have a live histogram ffs, depth of field preview is not available in live view only if u reset it, and a lot of things... what the hell :))) go play mario man.
Nikon fanboy..? I would have scored the image quality a tie. When I viewed some RAW files from both cameras, I just couldn't see a large enough difference to choose which is better. Only when I tried to bring a lot of blown out detail back from the RAWs I could see advantage in the Sony's sensor. You also forgot the difference in buffer size. It's kind of a big deal for shooting sports or BIFs. I also think that the i-ttl vs E-ttl should be a tie aswell. I've had great success with both systems
These cameras are very similar and both are fantastic cameras. I think that's really the bottom line here. If you have Nikon lenses, or a Nikon preference, go with the D7000. If you have Canon lenses or a Canon preference, go with Canon- the small, specific differences are almost negligible unless you need a specific feature that one provides and another does not.
I have too agree..The current range of Canon DSLR camera's are just for "Megapixel Masterbaters"..OOOOH My crappy Canon 550d is better than your Nikon D7000 becasue your camera only has 16 MP and my Canon has 18MP. Errrrr Hello. Look at the quality of the Pictures fom the Nikon and have a look at your shitty Canon pictures full of "Digital Noise"
For Canon users......MORE pixels does NOT mean better quality pictures.
i have no bias on nikon d7k or canon 7d at this point. but found this review to the point. i can clearly see the reviewers preference for nikon due to image quality and fast autofocus coz ultimately for a photographer (not a videographer) these two matter heavily.
I have the both 7D and D7000 (and D90) and I agree with the fact that Nikon D7000 is a much better camera. The on board focus motor allows me to use some of my old but great Nikon lenses and really the Video is not that far apart. My 7D will soon be on the market for sale.
The keyword of photographer is PHOTO. I dont think grapher means video. Plus people back then when there was only film didnt seem to care that their slrs didnt have video capability. Since nikon was the first to make a video dslr it was merely a new feature because even point and shoots nowadays take vid so y not a dslr. Damn technologys advancing faster everyday lol
I mean no matter how many features a canon has, nikon still has better picture quality overall. And as for videos, why dont people get a VIDEO camera? A Digital Single Lens Reflex camera is for stills no? Thats y nikon could give a rats ass with video they focus more on what a dslr is made for
@PSALM2011 Because, some photographers enjoy having access to high quality video. It really depends on what your going to use your camera for. Its like saying why don't photographers only get camera's capable of doing stills?
My question is, since nikon has better picture quality than canon and thats a fact for sure, why are people hating on nikon and still buying canon? I mean, isnt that the main reason why u would dump $2+K on a camera? For better picture quality than point and shoots? Lol
wow, these guys below are at each other's throats lol
the 7D has a full mag alloy body, whereas the D7000 has only top and rear cover's. and honestly id rather shoot with a 7D in the rain than the D7000 because of it's better build quality. BUT i would rather own a pentax K5. or a 1DX
Heres what this bias Nikon guru forgot to mention or covered up the truth!!! Nikon D7000 is not full metal body, only half whereas Canon 7D is full metal body. Nikon D7000's 2 sd card slot is no match to Canon 7D's CF Card, CF card is faster, durable, reliable and goes up as high 128gb and is only found on high end dslr. Nikon D7000's 16mp sensor doesn't automatically mean it has better image quality than 7D, that is pure BS!! folks Nikon D7000 is NOT weather sealed only weather resistance!!!
Canon 7D was introduced in Sep 2009 while Nikon D7000 is Sep 2010... 1years is a huge gap when it comes to technology advancement. It's like comparing a WW2 veteran soldiers against the soldiers of today using nightvisions and fancy stuffs.
Great comparison. I have experience with both cameras. I decided to get the d7000 because I shoot a lot of eye candy models so I care more about image quality than video. So I went with the d7000. the higher frame rate on the canon videos were not enough to swing me. Nikon now has great video as well not as good as canon but when you factor in still image quality, the d7000 was the clear choice for me
@ksearles85 how is D7000 superior to 7D please do explain!!! kindly list the things that is superior to 7D. BTW the more u comment, the more dumb u sound. Canon 7D is a semi-pro dslr like Nikon D300, while Nikon D7000 is a mid-range dslr like Canon 60D not semi-pro, so tell me how is D7000 superior??? have u even seen the actual specs side by side or are u just following this Nikon fanboy's video.
@daas8214 Have you seen the specs side by side? The only thing the 7D has in advantage over the D7000 is FPS. The D7000 has better IQ, better dynamic range, lower noise, 2 storage slots, a better battery, higher ISO capability and to top it all off it's $500 cheaper oh and as for your "7D is a semi-pro DSLR" bullshit it is mate, the D7000 is weather sealed, like pro cameras, the 7D .. ISN'T. The sensor on the D7000 is significantly bigger. So what's wrong with you? Dumbass.
@ksearles85 Yup the more u comment, the more dumb u sound. Where exactly does it say that D7000 is weather sealed??? Dynamic range my ass, lower noise my ass, better battery where the fuck did u get that? 2 storage SD card slots is better than CF CARD? kiss my ass!!! All these u mentioned have no significant difference in real life, marketing technique for fools. 550D produces same photo quality as D7000 with more natural colors & finer details, unlike D7000 which has yellow hue and low details.
@daas8214 lol, you labeled the guy in the video as a Nikon fanboy? How much of a Canon fanboy are you, Mr. Ignorant. Pointless argument - read some reviews with noise and image quality tests you luncheon meat loving moron. It IS weather sealed, that's a fact, the 7D isn't. It has better noise performance and better dynamic range performance, they are both facts. Yes, having two cards is better than one, regardless of the format, it's called redundancy. 550d same as D7000? WOW, dumb.... dumbass.
@ksearles85 r u fucking kidding me, how is D7000 weather sealed u piece of shitt!! ok this is my last comment as it is clear now, that i'm a talking to a moron who doesn't even own a dslr or let alone have seen one in real life. yes, i'm a canon guy and i'm a photographer, what r u?? u low life piece of shitt!! i feel embarrassed to even replying back at u, thats how dimwit u r. kid go do ur homework before commenting nonsense.
@daas8214 lol mate ... you aren't a photographer, don't kid yourself. You're just some punk ass loser who starts arguments on YouTube. Anyone can find out the facts I've stated on the D7000 with a 10 second Google search, you've just been slandering and acting like a prick for no good reason, nothing you're saying is factual in any way.
In summary, go fuck yourself, you loser - enjoy your second rate camera equipment, ps. I have a D3s, a D7000 and for some reason a 450d, yeah, you rock, peace.
@saulocoelhonunes lol i'm just educating some ignoranus here. if people are really interested in buying these DSLRS, they won't be here for proper comparison, there are other videos in youtube that are side by side comparison and not just specs. And thus so far all these side by side comparison tells that Canon 7D is far better camera.
@daas8214 I seriously hope for the rest of the world that you aren't a photographer mate, seriously. You're probably one of those idiots who are amazed when they can see out the back of their camera when they take their lens off. Do us all a favour and delete your Youtube account.
Seems like we should re-mention the continuous auto focus on video that is only on Nikkon so far. This is a big feature for anyone looking to a dslr for video...
Canon 7D wins. Its made in Japan. Nikon D7000 is made in China...and I will never put my money on some cheap, low cost, low quality piece of equipment.
i like nikon cameras.. some of my friends using canon--mark-ii... indian skin and temparature condition---- i satisfied nikon pics.. video---canon every body using mark-ii.. still i didnot like colours compare to nikon.can you give sagition in skin colour & tem.wise wich camera is best in india
The D7000 isn't perfect but it's a very formidable camera. Both are great cameras but it's hilarious to see ppl spouting off 7D is better, seeing how much more expensive that camera is compared to the D7000 which has a boatload of impressive features for it's price.
Its true what he says, if you have Canon glass get the 7d and if you have Nikon, glass get the D7000. Its a small percentage where a new photographer will start at either of these cameras. I started with a beginner cheaper camera because I wanted to know if I liked this hobby, I would be crazy to buy one these cameras to start.
Cómo es posible tener a ese pelón idiota hablando puras mamadas, lo que uno quiere ver es el funcionamiento de la cámara, no a un estúpido hablandejodo como pendejo.
Used Nikon for 30 yrs and lectured on photography same. Your statements 40+ compared to 20+ mbs bitrate "you won't notice the difference" is astoundingly nieve and simply wrong. On video high bitrate is essential and why I use a 7D for movie and a D7000 for stills...no comparison on video canon take he biscuit everytime.
Who sells more? "CANON" Hand's Down!!!!!!!!!!!!! Goto your nearest BestBuy and they will tell you. Just from being out and about and vacationing I have seen about 30 CANONS for every 1 NIKON that I have seen. Not to say that Nikon isn't good, But I will continue using my Canon EOS-7D.
@don1mega the amount of camera's sold says actually nothing you know why? because people are like sheeps they follow others just for a name... watch mtv and youll see that most of the music = crap but still people lisn it because others do.
@PalingLcw Very legitimate point. I agree with you 100% I live in a small town in Michigan, I don't DJ as much as I used to because this town is So Commercial. As Far as the CAMERA's From reading reviews on both and holding both in my hand's and evaluating them both. the canon just felt better. I purchased the BATTERY GRIP and it just makes the 7D feel that much better. I do not REGRET my decision not one bit. Some people drive Foreign cars, some people drive American. "To Each It's Own"
"The nod goes to the 7d" That realy stuck in he's throat I thought he would have to get a drink of water. I can't belive this guy " if you have no glass get the nikon" why? " if you have nikon glass get the nikon" god did this man used to work for NASA. I can't watch any more reviews by Nikons managing director. In he's review of the 60d he nearly got he's hand burnt off, Canon are not only shit there now dangerous
I think the canon 7d is better, but by the way fellow photographers... The National Photography Club is giving some of D7000s away... check it out here: bit-.-ly/o8U5Uw (excluding the three -)
on a camera noise performance, speed and picture quality are the most important factors. furthermore, it how the camera puts its specs to the best possible use. on a side note id also say the d7 is a little more sturdy than the d7000.
Matt - Do you have any experience or comments regarding the comparison of customer service between Nikon and Canon? I've read quite a few reviews on Nikon where the user had quality problems and Nikon has done little or nothing about it. It seems Nikon likes to blame the user for the problem.
Unfortunately in these instances you only get one side of the story but I haven't seen the same trend with Canon. If fact, I've seen a few reviews complimenting Canon for their customer service.
I owned both the D7000 and now 7D. 7D wins hands down. I shot Nikon for 10 years but the D7000 just doesn't cut it for me which is why I switched to Canon.
@thethinking1 Well the Nikon is lightweight and the image quality the guy refers to in this video, I disagree, I found the Canon far superior. Also the Nikon feels like a toy in your hand, plastic and not nice, the 7D is magnesium alloy body and is bigger and feels better, plus finally, for HD Video the Nikon exposure in the video recording kept auto adjusting meaning you cannot use the whole clip as the colour changes visibly in the video playback but the 7D is continuous throughout.
@renebruunphoto thanks for your input there.:) gives me great food for thought....
if i had my way, id have a nikon for stills (i own a D80 body+just 1 kit lens atm) and a Canon for filming - i found almost all filmmakers i know are using Canon. that does say something...gonna have a play with the two options. thanks again.
it seems the d7000 wins hands down with regards low light and iso though. ohhh it's so hard to choose. i prefer canon, but i dont understand why it is dearer, cos in relaity it is not a better camera per se.
@78Ishaan it's just a marketing name. If you compare D2x, which used to be a professional camera to D7000 which is an enthusiast camera, you will notice that it blows D2x out of the water! So now you can make better pictures for less money than the professionals did couple years ago.
If you do want "a professional SLR" just for the sake of it, I would buy Nikon F5 - it's cheap and ultra professional film camera, the best ever made.
@euyoooo Not true. It depends on the speed of the card you're using. I shoot RAW on the highest settings and can burst at 6fps for a good 8-10 seconds with a Sandisk 30mb/s SDHC card on my D7000.
Specs form an essential part of any choice when buying anything especially something like a DSLR. the application of those features - how well each feature performs in comparison to other makes and models is vital and comes second in the process.
First , we need to know specs for 'on the fly' comparison.
you cannot tell image quality from your screen,i thought my pictures were a bit soft ,then i had a large print made, well happy!!!!!!!.screens are not a good judge ,if its television or monitor .
@KVSKPrasad As an owner of the D7000 I can tell you that it doesnt overexpose, well, at least not the subject that the camera is giving priority to. When the exposure mode is set to matrix metering, the camera will put extra weighting over the object under the selected AF point(s). If there is an exceptionally bright subject in the background, the camera may over-expose on that in order to keep the subject under the AF point correctly exposed. Novices might mistake this as an error in exposure.
@nemesis3001 Hi there. Having done a lot of rigorous tests myself and infact planning to shift from Canon to Nikon by disposing of the entire kit of Canon 7D, I can tell you that after using the 7D, the D7000 doesn't hold a candle. Spec sheet may sound otherwise, but, I want to meet an SLR shooter who doesn't care about ISO - Nikon goofed it up right royally by not having ISO info on the VF.
Tell me one advantage of D7000 other than +1 stop in noise beyond 3200. I do most below that.
@KVSKPrasad I certainly care a lot about viewing the ISO sensitivity within the viewfinder, and thats why I've enabled it's display by enabling it within the following menu: Shooting/display->ISO display and adjustment->Show ISO sensitivity. Perhaps you should do a little more research.
Oh, and you want one more advantage other than one more stop of sensitivity?
- 39 AF points allow for better tracking of moving subjects
- Dual SD
- Larger sensor (1.5 not 1.6x) w/ larger photosites
@nemesis3001 Well, here we go - Talking of 39 AF points, I don't see that as an advantage as the Canon focusses much faster. Accuracy wise, both are equal. So, in terms of getting a shot, Canon 7D is faster!!
Dual SD card - Hmm may be !! I have never seen a card fail though and accidental deletions on the card are also rare IMO.
Larger sensor - In practice, all it means is, 1 stop advantage in noise.
@KVSKPrasad I use my 39 AF points for tracking erratically moving subjects such as wildlife. The Canon's points are more closely grouped around the centre which makes it less suited to this type of photography.
Dual SD has proven useful for separating RAW from JPEG between the cards, or stills from video.
@nemesis3001 Well, tracking of moving objects is done by AI servo mode on the 7D. I don't think that the 7D's AF points are closely grouped around the center - 19 of them and they are bigger. Area wise, it would be similar and all 19 are cross-type on the 7D which means all of them are equally effective. All said, 7D focusses much faster in all conditions.
Talking of dual SD card, well, people might tend to have their opinions, but is it a deal breaker or a deal clincher - not according to me.
@KVSKPrasad Essentially, if you have L-lenses, buy the 7D. If you've got gold ring, buy the Nikon. The cameras are so close to one another that you're better off staying with whatever system you've currently got and focusing on bettering your technique rather than bickering about which body is slightly better than the other :)
@nemesis3001 Oh Yes! Completely agree. Comparing any two cameras these days is like tasting water. Calling out differences is like telling the taste of water - that is how thin and unnoticeable the differences really are.
"Most" minor shortfalls in the camera can be corrected in PP, but, mistakes committed by the shooter can't be.
It is actually wrong to compare cameras like this - And there are many who made a profession out of it.
@nemesis3001 It is beyond doubt that barring a few of the websites, most of them have no standard procedures. I know of some which even alter their test procedures to favor a certain brand. Most even would not have tried the cameras of all the brands and are generally opinionated on one particular brand and act as brand ambassadors for that brand. Companies get them latest gadgets for free to post their garbage onto the net and help market their products. This is where the whole problem lies.
@nemesis3001 And not to mention, of what benefit is the lesser noise is low lights, when you think of overclipping of highlights on a bright sunny day. Sorry to say, D7000 is a good camera, no doubt, but, not comparable to a 7D - not even from the cost perspective. The D300s is a match to the 7D, not a D7000.
@KVSKPrasad The D7000 has a higher dynamic range than the 7D which makes it less likely to clip on highlights or low lights. Want proof? Check DXOMark.
Like I said, if you are seeing parts of an image that are over-exposed, be it on a D7000 or a 7D, it's due to the prioritization of exposure of the subject, not the fricken sun or that street lamp in the distance :). Metering modes exist for a reason. RTFM and know your gear.
Its all academic anyway. Shooting with a Nikon or a Canon wont make you a better photographer. If you enjoy shooting with the 7D, keep shooting with it,. I just wanted to ensure you're not ruling out the D7000 through lack of research.
@ArtoftheImage What lens would you recommend on the D7000 for everyday shooting of wildlife, landscapes and a decent zoom, maybe 170+mm?? It's also gotta be not too heavy and under $1000
You are really trying man but some stuff you say isn't accurate. They may be asking 1200 for the camera but go on amazon or any dealer and you'll see it marked up to 1500 or higher. You are alos comparing a camera that has been out for longer then the d7k has. What happens when Canon updates it? If anything this camera was to compare to the d300s prosumer camera and not a consumer camera in the d7000
In the video , you said that the nikon had better image quality because it was not as dense as 18mp of the 7d.... what if you lower the mp count on the 7d?. anyone thought of that?
A 7D goes for about $1500 new for just the body, $1700-$1800 if you want a slow kit lens with it.
For $1600 you could get a used 5D or 1D mkII, a brand new 35mm f2, and a brand new 85mm f1.8. I'll take full frame and fast glass any day over a cropped sensor camera with slow glass.
I have a 7D and hardly ever use it. I think the image quality is not all that great. My 5D2 however is much more advanced in IQ. You're right, when you say that IQ is really what sells a camera. I (along with many others) think that canon should place more emphasis on IQ at high ISO instead of cramming all those mpix's in to tiny sensors. Personally, I'll think long and hard before i ever go crop frame again............................my 2cents.
@strobaholic - I guess everyone has their preferences for different reasons. Myself, I'd take the better AF and build quality of the 7D over the 5D MkII for most jobs that I shoot. I shoot a lot of weddings and kids, and the AF on the 5D MkII is a bummer. I also find the image quality just fine on the Canon 7D, 60D, 600D, and 550D.
Now if I was ONLY doing commercial work in the studio, then I'd probably go with the 5D MkII. The AF and build quality wouldn't matter as much.
@ArtoftheImage The only thing I would use the 7d for, would be sports in bright light where i'd need the 8fps. Other than that, just as a spare body. Shooting any higher than800 ISO is not that good at all...........another 2 cents.
I'm a nikon shooter but I disagree with u saying the d7000 takes the edge on build quality. The d7000 is only half alloy body and the 7d has a full alloy body. Also the screen is a tad better on the 7d. Look at the specs....
@ArtoftheImage I don't think the screen really qualifies as a build quality feature. A great feature, but build quality deals mostly with construction of body, buttons, flaps, and overall feel.
I own both camera systems, including D700 and some older Canon stuff. I'm a fan of BOTH systems. Each has strengths and I can use either and get fantastic results. For video I tend to use Canon more. It's better in a variety of ways. For stills Nikon edges ahead. Image quality on Nikon stills is just superb though the Canon is so very close.
This is silly. Both cameras are rugged and well built. The D7000 has better low light capability. The 7D has better video. Both are FANTASTIC and VERY close in most respects. I prefer Nikon glass, but I own great Canon lenses as well.
Hey Matt, sent you a private message re: the D7000 iso button issue. If you get a chance, can you try out my suggested solution and let me know if it works?
7D is fucked up in higher ISO

What is "image quality" in this context? Is he talking about sharpness of the raw images before post-processing? High-ISO noise? Color? What?
netjunkie9 2 weeks ago

Dude can you be any more partial to Nikon?
ronin67 3 months ago 2
I mean no matter how many features a canon has, nikon still has better picture quality overall. And as for videos, why dont people get a VIDEO camera? A Digital Single Lens Reflex camera is for stills no? Thats y nikon could give a rats ass with video they focus more on what a dslr is made for
PSALM2011 3 months ago
@PSALM2011 Because, some photographers enjoy having access to high quality video. It really depends on what your going to use your camera for. Its like saying why don't photographers only get camera's capable of doing stills?
JakeShaneandAnt 3 months ago
My question is, since nikon has better picture quality than canon and thats a fact for sure, why are people hating on nikon and still buying canon? I mean, isnt that the main reason why u would dump $2+K on a camera? For better picture quality than point and shoots? Lol

Canon 7D is a semi-pro dslr like Nikon D300, while Nikon D7000 is a mid-range dslr like Canon 60D not semi-pro, so tell me how is D7000 superior??? have u even seen the actual specs side by side or are u just following this Nikon fanboy's video.
daas8214 4 months ago
@daas8214 Have you seen the specs side by side? The only thing the 7D has in advantage over the D7000 is FPS. The D7000 has better IQ, better dynamic range, lower noise, 2 storage slots, a better battery, higher ISO capability and to top it all off it's $500 cheaper oh and as for your "7D is a semi-pro DSLR" bullshit it is mate, the D7000 is weather sealed, like pro cameras, the 7D .. ISN'T. The sensor on the D7000 is significantly bigger. So what's wrong with you? Dumbass.
ksearles85 4 months ago
@ksearles85 Yup the more u comment, the more dumb u sound. Where exactly does it say that D7000 is weather sealed??? All these u mentioned have no significant difference in real life, marketing technique for fools. 550D produces same photo quality as D7000 with more natural colors & finer details, unlike D7000 which has yellow hue and low details.

@renebruunphoto "doesnt cut it" - can you expand on that answer?
thethinking1 5 months ago
@thethinking1 Well the Nikon is lightweight and the image quality the guy refers to in this video, I disagree, I found the Canon far superior. Also the Nikon feels like a toy in your hand, plastic and not nice, the 7D is magnesium alloy body and is bigger and feels better, plus finally, for HD Video the Nikon exposure in the video recording kept auto adjusting meaning you cannot use the whole clip as the colour changes visibly in the video playback but the 7D is continuous throughout.

@78Ishaan - The Nikon D7000 isn't known as an entry level DSLR. The Nikon D3100 is Nikon's entry level DSLR.
ArtoftheImage 7 months ago 3
@78Ishaan it's just a marketing name. If you compare D2x, which used to be a professional camera to D7000 which is an enthusiast camera, you will notice that it blows D2x out of the water! So now you can make better pictures for less money than the professionals did couple years ago.
If you do want "a professional SLR" just for the sake of it, I would buy Nikon F5 - it's cheap and ultra professional film camera, the best ever made.

Specs form an essential part of any choice when buying anything especially something like a DSLR. the application of those features - how well each feature performs in comparison to other makes and models is vital and comes second in the process.
First , we need to know specs for 'on the fly' comparison.

Novices might mistake this as an error in exposure.
nemesis3001 10 months ago
@nemesis3001 Hi there. Having done a lot of rigorous tests myself and infact planning to shift from Canon to Nikon by disposing of the entire kit of Canon 7D, I can tell you that after using the 7D, the D7000 doesn't hold a candle. Spec sheet may sound otherwise, but, I want to meet an SLR shooter who doesn't care about ISO - Nikon goofed it up right royally by not having ISO info on the VF.
Tell me one advantage of D7000 other than +1 stop in noise beyond 3200. I do most below that.
KVSKPrasad 10 months ago
@KVSKPrasad I certainly care a lot about viewing the ISO sensitivity within the viewfinder, and thats why I've enabled it's display by enabling it within the following menu: Shooting/display->ISO display and adjustment->Show ISO sensitivity. Perhaps you should do a little more research.
Oh, and you want one more advantage other than one more stop of sensitivity?
- 39 AF points allow for better tracking of moving subjects
- Dual SD
- Larger sensor (1.5 not 1.6x) w/ larger photosites
nemesis3001 10 months ago
@nemesis3001 Well, here we go - Talking of 39 AF points, I don't see that as an advantage as the Canon focusses much faster. Accuracy wise, both are equal. So, in terms of getting a shot, Canon 7D is faster!!
Dual SD card - Hmm may be !! I have never seen a card fail though and accidental deletions on the card are also rare IMO.
Larger sensor - In practice, all it means is, 1 stop advantage in noise.
KVSKPrasad 10 months ago
@KVSKPrasad I use my 39 AF points for tracking erratically moving subjects such as wildlife. The Canon's points are more closely grouped around the centre which makes it less suited to this type of photography.
Dual SD has proven useful for separating RAW from JPEG between the cards, or stills from video.
nemesis3001 10 months ago
@nemesis3001 Well, tracking of moving objects is done by AI servo mode on the 7D. I don't think that the 7D's AF points are closely grouped around the center - 19 of them and they are bigger. Area wise, it would be similar and all 19 are cross-type on the 7D which means all of them are equally effective. All said, 7D focusses much faster in all conditions.
Talking of dual SD card, well, people might tend to have their opinions, but is it a deal breaker or a deal clincher - not according to me.
KVSKPrasad 10 months ago
@KVSKPrasad Essentially, if you have L-lenses, buy the 7D. If you've got gold ring, buy the Nikon. The cameras are so close to one another that you're better off staying with whatever system you've currently got and focusing on bettering your technique rather than bickering about which body is slightly better than the other :)
nemesis3001 10 months ago
@nemesis3001 Oh Yes! Completely agree. Comparing any two cameras these days is like tasting water. Calling out differences is like telling the taste of water - that is how thin and unnoticeable the differences really are.
"Most" minor shortfalls in the camera can be corrected in PP, but, mistakes committed by the shooter can't be.
It is actually wrong to compare cameras like this - And there are many who made a profession out of it.
KVSKPrasad 10 months ago

KVSKPrasad 10 months ago

I just wanted to ensure you're not ruling out the D7000 through lack of research.
nemesis3001 10 months ago

Nice review, what microphone are you using for your vids
snerp 11 months ago
In the video , you said that the nikon had better image quality because it was not as dense as 18mp of the 7d.... what if you lower the mp count on the 7d?. anyone thought of that?

Super happy you broke it down like that. Thanx alot

Shooting any higher than800 ISO is not that good at all...........another 2 cents.
strobaholic 1 year ago
@strobaholic - Again, different strokes for different folks. My Canon 60D is just great at 1600 ISO and even 3200 ISO if exposed properly.

Great review
Translation: Canon needs to up it's game and lower the price on the 7DMk2.

I'm a nikon shooter but I disagree with u saying the d7000 takes the edge on build quality. The d7000 is only half alloy body and the 7d has a full alloy body. Also the screen is a tad better on the 7d. Look at the specs....
eighty4buick 1 year ago 26
@eighty4buick - The difference in build quality is very minimal. The screen on the Canon 7D and the Nikon D7000 is the same quality and resolution.
ArtoftheImage 1 year ago
@ArtoftheImage I don't think the screen really qualifies as a build quality feature. A great feature, but build quality deals mostly with construction of body, buttons, flaps, and overall feel.

I own both camera systems, including D700 and some older Canon stuff. I'm a fan of BOTH systems. Each has strengths and I can use either and get fantastic results. For video I tend to use Canon more. It's better in a variety of ways. For stills Nikon edges ahead. Image quality on Nikon stills is just superb though the Canon is so very close.
CaptRB 4 months ago
This is silly. Both cameras are rugged and well built. The D7000 has better low light capability. The 7D has better video. Both are FANTASTIC and VERY close in most respects. I prefer Nikon glass, but I own great Canon lenses as well.

Has anyoneheard any updates regarding a replacement for the D300S?

I am happy with my 60D. I find the D7000 shutter sound a bit weird. Articulate screen is important to me.

Hey Matt, sent you a private message re: the D7000 iso button issue. If you get a chance, can you try out my suggested solution and let me know if it works?
