Love this video! I'm using a Variax 500 on my new song 'Home' check it out on my channel and leave a comment to let me know what you think. I used it straight into PodXTLive and GarageBand. Peace!
@nickac121 I don't remeber sorry, as I don't own a X3L anymore, but there's a link in the description for the bundle of the sounds that are on that video, all you have to do is download this bundle and transfer it via usb to your x3 or x3l, then you will have the exact sound.. But the variax piezzo is a major part of that sound you know, don't expect to have the exact same without piezzos on your guitar .. Cheers !
@SerzinjoAndCo Thank you so much, it's just impro, nothing existing as far as I know ! ;-) If you like that kind of arpeggios you should really look on whitesnakes' "Looking for Love" or "Is this Love", I think those are the chords that inspired that video improvisation on clean sounds .. ;-)
i know its completley different but can the x3 sound like a tube amp cause i might get a jsx but hurting cash so i might go for pod farm or x3 what are the pros cons?
@12345678ix It depends on your need.. If it's for recording, then line6 products would be easier to work with than a real amp and a mic' at home, night, neighbours.. There's a lack of dynamic, everyone knows and its true and problematic sometimes for punch in recordings, I've discovered another known method that give incredible results two years ago using tubes.. If you need a product to play live, then an amp or a preamp is the tasty choice.. If you want a jsx for less money : bugera 333xl !!!
@Derfatot I second that, Bugera 333xl is a fantastic budget tube amp. Really delivers in all areas. could spend the extra cash on a couple pedals to color your tone
@maowcat Thank you for your comment, well, I must say "not that good", the piezzo pickups that are on variax and any other electric acoustic guitars are 50% of the acoustic effects.. It sounds good anyway on an electric guitar but not that "acoustic" due to the lack of piezzo pickups..
dude you are extremly talented, if you sent that to line 6 they might pay to promote there stuff talented, but really even if i wasent planing on getting on thats just a cool vid to listen to
@blaness13 Thank you very much you're nice! I think people at Line6 have a good knowledge of users videos that received a lot of views and feedback.. One question; does it matter what the sound card of the PC is? I mean, I have a shitty sound card. If I buy the Pod X3 Live, in order to record, will I have to buy a new sound card?
@ploutoploutwnios u just need an interface to plug your guitar in and then plug this interface with firewire or usb into your computer...the sound card of your pc doesnt matter then... these interfaces are external soundcards
@1973Hybrid : Hello, no amp miked, that video was made with an usual jack cable mono straight to my soundcard ( Edirol FA66 ).. Simply .. Actually, I had a lot of problems of audio dropouts with my x3L and so I couldn't record more than a few seconds using USB ... :(
And what does Line6 say about? Is your x3live in warranty? By the way I buyed my variax and...wow it souds great! I'm going to buy an X3 live too. I don't know why some people doesn't like variax. I think if they could try it, they surely would buy it. Thanks for reply. Bye.
P.S: is due to your video if I decided to buy both of them so...very ty
Excuse me if I ask for more info but I'm going to buy a pod x3 live as I already told; the sounds I've heard from you are the unique good sounds about pox x3. How can it be? Why other users taking the direct out can't obtain sounds like yours? Are you using factory presets or else?
Is really possible to change variax guitar emulation (& pick-up position) by pressing pod x3 live pedals? I read instructions on-line and it is not mentioned. Bye & very ty. I wrote to you another message in you-tube
The Variax connects to the X3 Live via ethernet cable. The X3 Live connects to your computer via usb. The older Pod XT Live also had a midi interface.
The variax cable allow you to give power to the variax (cause variax is a computer disguised like a guitar). I don't know if you also know what I'm going to say. Changing guitar-emulation on variax is done by a knob on variax itself. Sometimes, while executing an hard performance you'd have to change guitar emulation with your right-hand and effects with your foot. Well, the cable allows you to change effects and/or guitar-emulation without using hands. Bye.
@mikatarkela89 The only difference a VDI cable makes is that is lays and feels like a 'guitar' cord as opposed to a twisty and kinked CAT-5 network cable. also, the VDI cable has the correct locking XLR-style covers over each end that both protect and lock into the Variax and the Line 6 device.
since i have a variax 500 all my other 11 guitars are full of dust....lol...i dunno why ppl talk about latency and digital sound at all...its a guitar with a piezo pick up (funny...nobody ever complained about piezos in acoustic guitars...) and its a great guitar in its own rights...manufactured very good..the feeling playing on it is amazing and the variety of sounds is just awesome....i didnt find any mistake in that instrument...and i am an old fart..i play guitar for, like, 30 years...^^...
Acoustic sounds aren't so good as the others which are very good.
Rembering the first POD's, I hear a great evolution, first of all about the saturations. Now I can imagine on a day I'll maybe choose that solution but I'm sure I'll always use a tube power amp because electrically, solidstate amps can't reach the same dynamic.
in my experience, latency is negligible when playing through the variax solo or with the pod. it's actually pretty amazing, given the amount of processing taking place. i give line6 a lot of credit for that, it's one thing they do extremely well. and their instruments have a great feel, too. i used to have the variax 5string bass and i'm hoping to get the acoustic 700 variax to go with my phil jones cub amp for busking and recording.
As anything Line 6 do... Digital... It doesn't need pickups... I've never tried one but some ppl say it doesn't have the best tone... That it sounds a little too digital for them...
Hello, just got my pod x3 live.. AND i rly need som help. FAST:D i got a tip from a friend, that i should connect it via the send/return to mye amp. It should give me ALLOT better sound.. HOW? Anyone tried this??
WOW !! amazing sound, probably one of best on Youtube and i watch ALOT of Youtube :P, I definitely want to try this combo out some time, thanks for the sweet video !! 5/5
yes, you are right abaut that... i don`t know why some people feel offended when someone says the truth. but anyway this "guitar" is awesome, i mean, if you don`t have the money to buy 10 different guitars. this is an excellent choice...
the cable you speek of also lets the liveX3 to remember presets of the guitar also and store them for later use evey guitar pickup tone setting amp stompboxes cabenet speekers mic soundbord now just put all that over again and you get a small idea of the power of this device or devices put together I have the bass AX and love it have My Ibanex prestige pluged in at the same time and can use both at the same time with a frend or play and sing in a mic at the same time vocal stuff is great!!!!!!!
OMG what's it like to have every possible guitar texture under the sun available to you? LOL! Unbelievable acoustic and 12 string sounds as well. Nice upload and great mix. Loved the run at 2:04
I've got a GT10, by comparison I expect it's literally down to taste and cost, the GT10 is brilliant and I've only scratched the surface of its capabilities so far, I'd definitely recommend it, but I can't say anything bad about the other two since I've no experience. Not a very useful answer but yeah, the GT10 is definitely worth the money :)
i just got my x3 live and i can't record via usb. for some reason neither my mac or pc knows that my pod is connected. do you know what im doing wrong?
Hi- the X3 doesn't record directly through USB. Use Line 6 Monkey to download Pod Farm, which it the direct recording tool using the X3L as a dongle. Check it out- it's really cool!
This thing just sounds amazing... I understand purists when they talk about valve amps, of course they are right, but I love Line 6 and I owe those guys the fact that I had the chance of getting great guitar tones without spending tons of money. Line 6 rocks!! Gracias!!
see, i think this is the thing for me since i'll never stop being a bedroom rock star, and i like to play all kinds of different stuff. now, all i need to do is spend $500, and i'm set for a long time. i don't need to waste time buying, trying, and returning pedals and amps i don't like. i just buy one of these things and i have models for many of them. granted, they're not perfect models, but they'll do just fine.
u rock man. I have one question I´ve just bought the pod x3 and I cant change between tone 1 and 2 , the only way I can Is by turning on the dual tone , how do I do to choose tone 1 and 2 individually .. please answer. thanks for the video I´ll be waiting for your answer please help me
There are none...the bridge has sensors in, basically (they are actually piezos) and there's a circuit board inside that turns the sensed vibrations into modelled guitar sounds.
*Selling Line 6 Pod X3 Live* on Ebay! Only 300 bucks. It was originally 500! That means your saving 200! It's mint condition. Seller is called "Maggi59". Please check it out today. thnks :D
I have a PODxt Live and it sounds the same, but with less effects, but hey I don't need all those effects. And the Variax isn't even a real electric guitar, it's a synthesizer.
what is best amp for plugging this into? or what are other options? do people just run through computer with higher quality monitor/speakers? sorry obviously dont have a clue.
I recommend the POD X3 Live hands down. The Boss GT-10 ain't bad either, but the POD gives SO much features and options. Especially, dual tone is incredible to have.
I would add that, since the beginning of the summer, I figured out that, here in France, things are changing about variax = For months people on forums were telling line6 is SH.T! That Variax is an awful toy, NOT A GUITAR!..But now, since a few weeks: IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND A USED VARIAX! One for sale stays only one day! I think some of the most conservative french guitarists( imagine what it could be!uhuh! :) ) finally admitted how a variax could sound damn GREAT and bring to guitar's future! Crazy
I'm a Variax 300 user since the very beginning, always found it totally rocks when it comes to the modeling techniques. Sure, it's not 100% accurate, but WAY accurate enough. I'm a hobby guitarist, so I haven't bought a 700 yet, but when my 300 breaks, I definitely will buy one right away!!!
God!!! Thank you!!! :) May god listen to you my friend! It would be my dream, really ...I could keep all my line6 gear instead of selling it in order to buy some new ! :) Since 2001 I got ( not at the same time :p )POD, spider 212, vetta 212, variax 500 red, pod xt, vetta HD, Pod 2 chrome, variax 600 white, floorboard, shortboard, LONGBOARDDDD, KB37 with ALL packs, gearbox gold bundle, gearbox plugin, and I just sold my variax600 white in order to buy a blue700 TR! :) Check out for the new vids!
I forgot the X3L!!! Ahaha! Anyway..Thank you! So do I believe that youtube home vids are certainly as good ( unless better ) promotion than pro videos on (line6 or other) web sites.. This one seems to have changed some bad opinions, and it's crazy! I'm so happy with my new 700, and with all the kindness around that video, that I'm going to prepare some news, with new X3 presets .. To all here, or in the private box, THANK YOU! It was a first "shy" experience for me, you turned it into a GOOD one
Ola, to answer to your question : not really, it could work but not as good because of the Variax piezzos that are really giving incredible modelisations of acoustic guitars.. It work, but not the same as in the video ! All the best from France -Frederic-
Translation/Traduccion with all errors in spanish included: Forgive my ignorance and the guitar's pickups, it has a selector there how do they function thanks for the replies. End of translation/Fin de traduccion.
Horrible spanish. It may be a pre-teen since the grammar is so bad. The guitar question, itself, would make it even more probable.
hola una pregunta :) , compre el pod x3 live, me va llegar dentro de poco, lo has probado en directo? Y es facil de usar o cuesta mucho acostumbrarse? gracias!
Hi, a question :) I bought the pod x3 live, it's going to arrive to me shortly, have you tried it direct? And is it easy to use or cost much to get used to? thanks!
excuse me is this pedal board better thn the hd 400 or 500?

yes, you are right abaut that... i don`t know why some people feel offended when someone says the truth. but anyway this "guitar" is awesome, i mean, if you don`t have the money to buy 10 different guitars. this is an excellent choice...

Maybe with the X4 they'll FINALLY expand the selection of distortion stompboxes beyond the, like, 3 they have now.

i was wondering, does pod x3 live come with recording software, and when your recording can you output to pc soundcard?
dareheaven2 2 years ago
as far as i know you can record directly with the usb
amaurythewarrior 2 years ago
the cable you speek of also lets the liveX3 to remember presets of the guitar also and store them for later use evey guitar pickup tone setting amp stompboxes cabenet speekers mic soundbord now just put all that over again and you get a small idea of the power of this device or devices put together I have the bass AX and love it have My Ibanex prestige pluged in at the same time and can use both at the same time with a frend or play and sing in a mic at the same time vocal stuff is great!!!!!!!

OMG what's it like to have every possible guitar texture under the sun available to you? LOL! Unbelievable acoustic and 12 string sounds as well. Nice upload and great mix. Loved the run at 2:04

were are the pickups?
laurent4111 2 years ago
There are none
If I am not mistaken the sound is picked up on the saddles of the bridge.

though i found the tones of th gt 10 the best, can anyone tell me which one of the x3 live, gt 10 or zoom g9.2tt is the best?
udayvirgarg22 3 years ago
I've got a GT10, by comparison I expect it's literally down to taste and cost, the GT10 is brilliant and I've only scratched the surface of its capabilities so far, I'd definitely recommend it, but I can't say anything bad about the other two since I've no experience. Not a very useful answer but yeah, the GT10 is definitely worth the money :)

i just got my x3 live and i can't record via usb. for some reason neither my mac or pc knows that my pod is connected. do you know what im doing wrong?
geetarplayer11 3 years ago
Hi- the X3 doesn't record directly through USB. Use Line 6 Monkey to download Pod Farm, which it the direct recording tool using the X3L as a dongle. Check it out- it's really cool!

This thing just sounds amazing... I understand purists when they talk about valve amps, of course they are right, but I love Line 6 and I owe those guys the fact that I had the chance of getting great guitar tones without spending tons of money. Line 6 rocks!! Gracias!!
newpixeldude 3 years ago
see, i think this is the thing for me since i'll never stop being a bedroom rock star, and i like to play all kinds of different stuff. now, all i need to do is spend $500, and i'm set for a long time. i don't need to waste time buying, trying, and returning pedals and amps i don't like. i just buy one of these things and i have models for many of them. granted, they're not perfect models, but they'll do just fine.

Sounds like the pedal needs to be calibrated. Go to the Line 6 site and the support pages have the procedure.

Where in the world are the pickups in that? [2]
The guitar works like magic or something??
O.o
McPedroca 3 years ago
The pickups are located in the bridge, piezzo saddles like on most of electric acoustic guitars.. Cheers !

Hi vey nice tones, I have the same amp , my question is which of the patches do you use with the PODx3 , I know is a clean one, but which.

baboonslpk 3 years ago
There are none...the bridge has sensors in, basically (they are actually piezos) and there's a circuit board inside that turns the sensed vibrations into modelled guitar sounds.
nickwellings 3 years ago
i actually really don't like the tone of those variax's...the POD is nice but im still old school...analog is the way to go...lol

I have a PODxt Live and it sounds the same, but with less effects, but hey I don't need all those effects. And the Variax isn't even a real electric guitar, it's a synthesizer.

How would compare the POD X3 Live with Digitech RP500, Digitech GNX4 and Boss GT-10? Which one would u recommend apart from price? Thanks
Marcoshary 3 years ago
I recommend the POD X3 Live hands down. The Boss GT-10 ain't bad either, but the POD gives SO much features and options. Especially, dual tone is incredible to have.
cadabraa 3 years ago
GT-10s Parallel Chain feature provides two separate effects paths but both units sound good.

True.

Wow Very good!

Crazy
Derfatot 3 years ago
I'm a Variax 300 user since the very beginning, always found it totally rocks when it comes to the modeling techniques. Sure, it's not 100% accurate, but WAY accurate enough. I'm a hobby guitarist, so I haven't bought a 700 yet, but when my 300 breaks, I definitely will buy one right away!!!
cadabraa 3 years ago
Line 6 should be endorsing you with all of their equipment you use.

Derfatot 3 years ago
I forgot the X3L!!! Ahaha! Anyway..Thank you! So do I believe that youtube home vids are certainly as good ( unless better ) promotion than pro videos on (line6 or other) web sites.. This one seems to have changed some bad opinions, and it's crazy! I'm so happy with my new 700, and with all the kindness around that video, that I'm going to prepare some news, with new X3 presets .. To all here, or in the private box, THANK YOU! It was a first "shy" experience for me, you turned it into a GOOD one

Are the acoustic sounds available to all electric guitars?
(En español) ¿Acaso todos los sonidos acústicos del Podx3 Live están también para cualquier otra guitarra eléctrica?
latinrockfusionfreak 3 years ago
Ola, to answer to your question : not really, it could work but not as good because of the Variax piezzos that are really giving incredible modelisations of acoustic guitars.. It work, but not the same as in the video ! All the best from France -Frederic-

Disculpen la ignoracia y los pick ups de la guitarra, tiene un selector ahi como funcionan gracias por las respuestas..
