FIX YOUR VOLUME! I'm tired of raising and lowering the volume and getting blown away when I forget that someone doesn't give a shit about their video or viewers enough to push the levels up from "nearly mute" before uploading a video.
Great tutorial, I'm wondering if you'd do another on how to best get into your hammock with all your gear in, i.e. sleeping bag, pad, etc. I find it easy to get in when empty but struggle with getting in and situated when all my gear is in with me. Thanks.
Those were GREAT! Tips!! Thank! You!! Please keep posting! not everyone is a Pro and the information you gave was Great! Once again Thank You for taking the time to help your fellow man! (or woman)
Thanks a bunch for the video and the shoe idea! One question: Is it better to attatch the stretchy cord from the hammock itself taut to the ground or to the rain fly? It seems like you would be getting more room and a flatter surface. Thanks
@mcsparron lol nice. no idea, but im from across the pond and i went to the UK for like 6 months and i never got around to doing any camping or anything. any good forest there (besides lake country and scotland obviously)
@hellabeast34 well nothing like the states but of course. all over the place there are big woods/forests, new forest, forest of dean, epping forest, beddgelert forest (in wales, hence lack of vowels) plenty to chose from!
@TheEmarbe i dont have the ultralite so couldnt comment to be honest..... go to hammockforums net and ask the same question and you will get the best answers out there.
I have been watching your videos repeatedly since I just bought a HH Deluxe Explorer. You have given some great information. I even decided to use your carabiner and rap ring suspension system. One thing I hope you can comment on is your paracord ridgeline setup. Could you elaborate on how to make it and how it works? I know how a prussik knot is made, but I am not so clear on how you set yours up and adjust it, and the video is a little blurry to tell for sure.
@WhackyWhacker length of parachord between the two d rings. simple as that. the only really i had a prussik on there was to make the ridge line tighter should i need to, i have never since adjusted this, so if you measure it out right the first time you can just tie a straight length of chord. easy.
it just stops the tarp sagging in the middle or pooling with water in heavy rain. also keeps the tarp off the hammock netting which in turn creates more air flow. hope that helps!
Excellent Review and Guide. Thanks. I've just ordered one of these (Velcro model, not zip) and can't wait to get out there and give it a go on my next hike. No more uncomfortable nights on the hard ground for me! Got some Rap rings and Carabiners as well, same as the set up on your other vid. Superb idea!
Just a couple of questions...Have you ever had any problems with water running down the ridge line or suspension line when it rains and how well does the tarp keep the rain off?
@nudgabollocks glad you liked both vids! appreciate the feedback!
never had problems with that, the snake skins prevent any water flowing down anywhere. ive gone through several monsoon seasons in equitorial rainforests and even shocking weather in wales ;) and never EVER got wet. the tarp is bomber.
If you were buying your 1st today, would u stick with the velcro bottom-entrance model or go with the new zipper side-entrance model? I'm thinking the latter but not sure.
@sauceykat 2qzqhammockhanger(DOT)com offers mods so that you can have both. depends where you live in the world and what you are going to use it for. if you live in a fairly insect free environment then zippers look great. i work in the jungle and if i opened up a zipper, the mosquitoes would have a field day but they cant seem to fathom out where you go when you disappear through the bottom.... so id buy a bottom entry for that reason....
@mcsparron I'm new to hammocks. I like the idea of a bottom entrance into a hammock, yet I have serious concern for how well the bottom stays zipped if heavily used. Can one place their full weight on that seam? Have you heard of or experienced failure there. Thank you.
@InTheSticks0001 its not a zip, its velcro.... you cant put your weight on it because that then opens the door. thats how its designed, when you get in and lie back, it snaps the door shut. when you sit up, give the door a kick and drop right out! its plenty strong enough and you wont be anywhere near it when you are asleep anyway.
@ilavatelli thank you, ive been trying to film an update today but its just too windy. got some more bits and pieces that i think people should know about!
@mcsparron awesome, just putting in an order for the Explorer deluxe. Loved the video of Borneo! I live in Melbourne, Aus and it made me miss my home (Malaysia). Safe travels dude!
@ilavatelli do you mean journeys of a drop out? saya akan kembali ke borneo tahun ini! untuk mei sampai september!!! explorer dulux is a great hammock. never been to aus though... no desire to in all honesty...
How tight do you rig the hammock? I like to really crank down on the ropes thinking that I will lay flatter. Most of the videos I see don't talk about how tight to tie the hammock up... A fair amount of videos don't show the hammocks fairly loose... What is your opinion? I have a Hennessy Explorer, an Expedition zip, a Scout, and a Deep Jungle zip. Thanks!
@TeamRust i guess its personal preference. however, all HH chord stretches... so if you try to get it super tight it will only slack off anyway.... i found that giving it a bit of slack in the first place, a tiny bit, actually causes less slack in the long run. put your head end slightly lower than your feet to stop you sliding down.... i am never totally flat to be honest, but always sleep like a baby.
@1wickedmonkey yeah, that means you can whack out the tarp quickly for lunch or shade and the hammock hangs underneath in its own snake ready for when you need it....
love these vids. very informative. i'm looking to get this same hammock soon so its good to see some of the things you have done to make things easier. any more tips, i'm open.......
@1wickedmonkey i actually have a lot more... but they are all niggly little things that dont seem to be worth making a compilation for... like electric tape round the end of the rope where the door is so i always know which way to set it up even with the snake skins on. also putting the hammock in snake skins and then putting those snake skins and the tarp inside another set makes a world of difference as well! great hammock! will be in mine six months solid this year alone!
Wow this setup is great! Just ordered a HH Explorer Ultralite, I'm gonna have a great time adjusting it according to your tips :) Also got the parts to do your quick setup, really seems to be the way to go!
@mcsparron No, I don't think the lines are any much thinner than the ones on your hammock. From what I can tell from your videos, they look identical. Also, the Explorer UL is rated with a higher weight limit than most other HH's, so I think I'll be safe.
Thanks for the heads-up though, I'll definately keep an eye on the sheath! :)
@RasmusSE oh ok, i misread it, i thought you had the back packer ultralite. its not so much the breaking strain of the chord, its the sheath getting burnt or ripped from friction, thats thing the thing to keep an eye out for! let me know how it goes!

@simplexmechanic same as mine. lovely hammock! i hate sleeping on the floor now! i can literally sleep for 7/8 hours straight in my hammock without waking up once.... depending on the jungle noises hehe. hh customer service is fantastic as well!!! enjoy! any more questions, dont hesitate to ask!
@LonelyRavenProductio thank you!!! ive been looking at getting a mic because im looking at doing a whole series of videos over the next few months but i wouldnt even know where to start looking or what type to get.... why do i talk funny? i have a standard british accent.....
