Kate Beckinsale was ALL. WRONG. especially looks-wise to play Ava in The Aviator! I love Ava in The Barefoot Contessa & Mogambo also.

Jolie "was" an actress. She doesn't have range anymore.. I won't curse you.

Kirk Douglas found her to be "a wonderful country girl who was cursed by being too beautiful." No doubt she was gorgeous but I don't think Hollywood used her talent to its fullest.

I think she was the most beautiful movie star ever. She was perfect. And all the MGM women that used to see her in the dressing room said that she was the REAL beauty, needed no makeup to be beautiful and even more stunning in person.

Ava Gardner was so real! She did not and would not become 'Hollywood', and the MGM studio bosses couldn't handle her. She not only was the most beautiful, but she was also ahead of the women's movement by 30 years.

You are so right! Saw her in"ShowBoat" on the big screen at the AGMuseum First Fest in Smithfield,NC. Absolutely breathtaking in all of her scenes (even at the end without makeup!).

She's very beautiful. I don't know who's Ava Gardner before. She became popular before I was even born. By the time I saw her movie "Showboat", and that her extraordinary beauty captured my attention, I found out that she have already died many years before. Anyway, I still think that she's one of the most beautiful movie star in old Hollywood movies.

Is a pity that Ava did´nt work at "The pink panther", "Sweet youth bird" and "The graduate"(as Mrs. Robinson), she was offered to work in. With that films and the others she did, she would be the most great myth in Hollywood. Any way, the most beautiful and authentic.With Marilyn, THE ONLY ONE.

basilnelson....I think there's no doubt why these magazines voted on Ava....It's the natural choice at this time....she was perfect....boone structures, perfect skin, a amazing nose, black hair contrasting with beautiful blue eyes (or green maybe!!!)....her legs that's from another world.....So!!! That's a good reason for Sinatra's madness!!!!

May I add that as I have expressed elsewhere previously:I believe that Sinatra sings his ballads to her and we can just go along for the ride. His was a voice that will never be duplicated - ditto for AG for her beauty and talent!

There is no one else in the golden era of hollywood that could compare in beauty with Ava Gardner...Marilyn Monroe were very plastic, a lot of superficial...Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn was more girls next door that movie goddess....Ava Gardner were the unspeakable beaty....she didn't need to talk, walk or dress to be beauty...SHE WERE BEAUTIFUL AT ALL!!!
