  • Man oh man oh mad. Beautiful. Just Beautiful.

  • Beautiful. It was said that she was painfully insecure, idk why!

  • Stunningly beautiful and so talented! Happy Birthday Miss Gardner!

  • thank you so much for this it is stunning befitting a beauty and legend like ava gardner, one of the most beautiful women to ever walk this earth, thanks again.

  • gorgeous r.i.p.

  • I remember one of my friends once said, "she's not beautiful to me, she seems to be lacking something." I look at this video and wonder what the hell is he talking about because she's a class A beauty to me and doesn't seem to be lacking anything.

  • I have loved Ava all my life , in fact, I married my wife because she looked like Ava, but she was better, she loved me and I adored her , she loved me, adored our children and we are still together as senior citizens, beat that!

  • I can't get over how because of Ava's strong features that her beauty is actually quite modern in the best way possible.

  • Some people will curse me out for this but as far as looks, temperament, and even racial/cultural background Angelina Jolie is the closest thing to the gorgeous Ava Gardner today, and I can't wait for the day when someone finally convinces Angelina to play Ava in a movie of some kind because it would be the perfect fit. Kate Beckinsale was ALL. WRONG. especially looks-wise to play Ava in The Aviator! I love Ava in The Barefoot Contessa & Mogambo also.

  • @jrmetmoi Oh Angelina is HOT. But Beckinsale was able to bring that sultry "Aww shucks, get on with it !" type of persona that Ava Gardner had. Ava didn't take Hollywood that seriously. She said herself she only did it for the money so see could see the world. Beckinsale nailed that role. Jolie really can't act other than action. That doesn't take talent. GIA was her best. Jolie "was" an actress. She doesn't have range anymore.. I won't curse you.

  • @CrazyRabbit45 If you have talent, you don't "lose it", you just don't use it and it gets rusty. She did well in that real life movie about Daniel Pearl.

  • According to my Daddy all the Gardner sisters were beautiful and some said Ava wasn't even the most stunning. She grew up in Johnston County NC. I'm sure all the boys were dumbstruck whenever they came into town.

  • remember...Frank Sinatra went crazy for this woman...he dedicated a song...I'm a fool to want you.....

  • Notice that mysterious look on that beautiful face, I can watch on her beauty over and over never been feed. Looking at her cosmic and eternal beauty you must be convinced to existence of God - her beauty is his masterpiece.

  • such a dark beauty.

  • Thank you for a very good slide show. I love those black and white photo's but my favorite actress is still Deanna Durbin.........besides her looks I was captivated by her voice when she sang anything.

  • I adore Ava Gardner!

  • a true natural beauty. nothing at all montag about her.

  • what a beauty. Something about her eyes so stunning yet, so tragic... :(

  • What an outstanding video of this great elegent legend!!!!! Amazing!!!!!

That is what really beauty is about.

Girls today should or could learn alot from these video's you have- Natural Beauty!!!!I'm only 30 but i wish i could have been there, in those days.

Great choice of music in your video's too!!!

  • quelle classe !!!!

  • Where's Gene Tierney? in the Movie Legends

  • have to agree with you there..Ava was something else

  • Que mujer tan hermosa y elegante, de las mujeres más bonitas que han existido, por dios qué ojos negros.

  • And people still ask why Frank Sinatra lost his mind for this woman???

    Pure beauty and femininity.

Many times before those plastic actress of today.

  • Una belleza

  • She is a dream of the lone sailor.

  • I just don't get it about her. I think she's fine looking but no where what I'd call beautiful. During this same era the one I would call beautiful was Rita Hayworth.

  • That's strange - I think she's stunningly beautiful. Perhaps the most beautiful film star of all. I've never really got it about Catherine Deneuve, whom everyone finds so mesmerising. To me she's just OK. A chacun son gout...

  • @dmw1328 lol you gotta have the eye.. most people thing she is..

  • I loved Ava in Night Of The Iguana with Richard Burton and Deborah Kerr.

  • I agree. That's why I like the actresses of the golden era because they were really naturally beautiful and true talent!

I love Liz Taylor and Dorothy Dandridge

  • my grandfather discovered her he was the talent scout for mgm in the 1920s and 30s and 40s i wish i knew my grandfather but he died 2 years before i was born

  • Thanks for posting this. Beautiful.

  • I think the girl who was in Pearl Harbor could play her- Kate Beckinsale- what do you think?

  • Funny you say that, Kate Beckinsale played her in The Aviator. Good call :)

  • What a beautiful woman! No wonder Frank went bonkers over her!

  • @res57 yeah Frank and about a billion other guys!

  • The beautiful stars of Hollywood Golden age were beyond beautiful, they actually had TALENT. They could act, sing and dance. The so-called stars of today just have to weigh under 100 pounds to strike it lucky in Hollywood. They don't make 'em like Ava anymore.

  • yeah, i know. kinda sucks but Scarlet Johanson and Penelope Cruz have that sorta curves actresses in the golden age had. and i hear Penelope can sing, especially in the movie "Nine".

for singers, Beyonce has curves, too. she can act as well. they're all beautiful girls with talent but they sure don't make 'em like they used too.

  • I guess todays women have just too much testosterone.

  • omg ava gardner was so beautiful just like the other "bombshells" monroe, mansfield, greta garbo, sophia loren, there are pretty women in the world but they dont compete all with the women back in the day

  • Beautiful Lady.

I love that you chose "Gracias a La Vida" by Chilean female composer Violeta Parra...very appropriate.

  • Great respectful and peaceful music.

    What a lady.

    Thanks Bas for the video.

  • Stunning! And remember, in those days, it was all them, no plastic surgery (even if some did get a little help much later). Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Sophia Loren: true beauties, icons of style and grace, dripping with gorgeousness.

  • If ever they make a movie of Ava's life, and im not sure if they have yet or not, but I think Ashley Judd would do her justice, she has that same poise and beauty and elegance

  • Gorgeous. No wonder Frank Sinatra never got over losing her.

What I love about these classic old movie stars like Ava is they're curvy and slender, fit without looking like overmuscled gym junkies.

(cough:: madonna::cough) If today's actresses actually ate more than their size 0 figures allowed, they wouldn't need breast implants. When you diet, the bust is often the first place it falls off.

    Viva the hourglass figure!

  • AVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the most beautiful women to have graced this planet.

  • She was drop dead gorgeous.

  • WOW!!! Great!

  • I LOVE Ava!

  • More Ava coming on June 23!

  • @basilnelson truly the most beautiful- dont argue w modern women- never another

  • Nice Choice for the background music but I would have chosen the "Them from the Barefoot Contessa" one of her biggest movies.

  • 1:12

    jaw drops...

  • Photograhers can make or break the poser. Here the ninth picture (remember two are colored; count them) has the most effective use of light, dress, hair and pose to make this picture of Ava the most striking of any actress of her period. She was 30 years old in this picture, it embodies only the way could and should be remembered.

  • Basilnelson thanks for the tip. Let me tell you this... The music that goes with all your videos are like an oasis among the cacophony of this life... Greetings

  • "Thanks to Life" because she did exist... Simply a great Diva... The music? excellent !!! (By the way who plays the piano?)... Thanks for sharing

  • Thank you. The artist is French pianist Richard Clayderman.

  • she was such a goddess!

  • I am working on an Ava Gardner video right now. She was breathtakingly beautiful. Great video!!!

  • Great video!

  • Fantastic Work! and thank you for introducing me to that wonderful music!

  • Basil Nelson: The most incredible thing is, that, the song that you put for this beautiful women pictures (Ava Gardner), is call "Gracias a la vida/Thanks to life" from Violeta Parra.

She was on the most talented artist from my country, and an inspiration to many people as well.

  • Thank you. I take a lot of time over choice of music as I feel the music is just as important as the images. When the two work together, it's just magic. BAZ

  • Ava was from Smithfield, NC (about 1/2 to 45 minutes south of Raleigh) and she was a country girl at heart despite the influence of Hollywood. Kirk Douglas found her to be "a wonderful country girl who was cursed by being too beautiful." No doubt she was gorgeous but I don't think Hollywood used her talent to its fullest.

  • very good point -

i lvei about 10 minutes from where ava was laid to rest -she was a good woman with so much beauty -sometimes i go and visit her grave just to go back in time and see her beauty live once again.

  • Ava Gardner, Vivien Leigh, Rita Hayworth ecy. were all classsy beautiful ladies. Look what we got today. Madonna, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears ect. Nothing but trash!!!!!!!!!

  • @cindyloui we have monica bellucci, anne hattaway, scarlett johansson, marion cotillard... but I agree with you: the (real)stars don't exist anymore...

  • Ava was a gorgeous, sensuous & exotic woman. She reminds me of a warm lady fragrance. She was very talented, there is no doubt about that, but her histrionic gifts were never used completely. She was elegant & sophisticated by nature, because she was a very simple country girl in her tastes, coming from a small town in North Carolina, but she radiated pure female elegance, sex and beauty. When I see her on the screen, she makes me feel great, she had that power. Wow! she was gorgeous!

  • more than twenty years ago, i made a dream : Ava & me in Paris, kissin' on a bridge... dring dring says my clock alarm !!! more than twenty years ago, i always think of this incredible dream, this incredible kiss : since this day, always in love wth Ava.

  • unprecedented beauty and elegance :-)

  • Flawless!!!! Just breathtaking.

  • I love these actresses from the 1940's and 50's. They were all so beautiful! Miss Gardner was a perfection. A gorgeous lady! Wow!!!!!!!

  • There are no words to describe Ms. Gardners beauty. Ms. Gardner was terribly underrated actress, wasted and underused on MGM.

  • She was and still is adorable. Pure American beauty; enchanting. thanks for the clip.

  • she is stunning. I have never seen any of her films, was she a good actress?

  • yes... she was really good! i love her in Mogambo...

  • Ava Gardner was exceptionally stunning and was an actress during the 1940's and 1950's and was nominated for an Oscar for Mogambo but lost to Audrey Hepburn for her Roman Holiday performance. Ava had beauty, brains, wit and charm being from North Carolina, USA. Frank Sinatra stated that she was the love of his life and lost her because they could not get along outside of the bedroom. Personally, I liked her in On The Beach with Gregory Peck but others say The Barefoot Contessa was better.

  • really. I actually watched the barefoot contessa last night and din't really rate her. Perhaps on the beach is better.

She reminds me alot of catherine zeta jones. I think zeta jones based herself on her a bit.

  • Ava Gardner portrayed maria vargas in this movie who was the dancer to star in a movie being made by humphrey bogart's harry dawes character. it is one of her better performances and i had not seen the movie in years. on the beach is a good movie but it was made 5 years after the barefoot contessa and after her divorce from frank sinatra. Ava was in her prime in the early 1950's and if it were not for a youthful and vivacious Audrey Hepburn, Ava would have received an Oscar.

  • Eyes like that are dangerous. What a beauty.

  • Wish her and frank had lasted.

  • Beautiful! I've seen a few other videos of other beautiful movie legends. Being a man, I know that we are hardwired to respond to physical beauty at the drop of a hat. However, one thing that jumps out at me is the thought of how much pressure women must be under in order to look...beautiful...for us! That's quite a lot of pressure! Let's ease up fellas...all women are beautiful!

  • Gregory Peck, who I understand renmained her friend until the end, was asked what Ava was like when they worked together in "On The Beach". She was, he said, "magnificent". That word will forever be associated in my mind with the magnificent Ava.

  • I can understand that.. She was really "magnificent"...

    And Gregory too! :)

  • She has to be one of the most beautful women that ever existed! It is hard to believe that she thought that she had no talent.

  • Your video about Ava its very beautiful..

  • I am so glad that my name is Ava, I have a lot to live up to sure, but one day my name will be remembered for my acting skills. Ava Kelly will be know, mark my words.

  • check them out!thanks basilnelson

  • Ava Gardner is the best! Not only was she beautiful but she was also a free spirit and never had a big ego. Ava forever!

  • Very probably the most beautiful woman who ever lived...

  • I think she was the most beautiful movie star ever. She was perfect. And all the MGM women that used to see her in the dressing room said that she was the REAL beauty, needed no makeup to be beautiful and even more stunning in person.

  • Alle 1ooo jahre geschehen wunder auf unserem planeten, eins von den wunder für mich ist das ava gardner hier auf der welt wahr, wenn es ein zweites leben gibt dann bitte lieber Gott lass mich in ihrer nähe sein .

  • Does any actress or model nowadays look like Ava did?

  • I think that Monica Bellucci comes pretty close.

  • monika is belissima but ava wins imho.she would surely beat me too in beer drinking contest;-)

  • She oozed sophistication from every pore.

  • so beautifulk and talented actually! i loved her personality as well i like to think we would have been friends!lol well her book is so funny in parts actually i have a friend with that sort of personality! but dosnt look like she did!lol

  • her waist and hips are so unreal! It looks like she's constantly wearing a corset! Perfect waist to hip ratio

  • she was truly stunning, of Irish descent I think...

  • nope, recent studies indicates that she was from planet Venus

  • Awsome , simply beautiful !!

  • Thank you!I am so totally touched by your background music to this captivating video of my favorite actress. When I need an uplifting in life,I watch your video;the music is absolutely overwhelming.I mean it.Thank you-yours is classic.I look forward to viewing the AG video 5/13. Have you ever been in touch with her Museum in NC?I'm an Ava Advocate;went to her first fest celebrating the "SHOW BOAT" theme. Write on(excuse the pun)for your music is a loving tribute to Ava.Will check AG(REPRISE).

  • I do not understand the above statement. This is a beautiful musical, video tribute to a fantastic person - a star. I totally reject the above statement that it is inappropriate. Please remove that comment from here asap.

  • Beautiful video.I watched it twice.

    Thank you.

  • Ava Gardner was so real! She did not and would not become 'Hollywood', and the MGM studio bosses couldn't handle her. She not only was the most beautiful, but she was also ahead of the women's movement by 30 years.

  • Ava Gardner was very beautiful!!!

  • She was never more alluring than she was in The Killers w/ Burt Lancaster. Maybe the best film she ever made.

  • Nice music!

  • One of the true Hollywood beauties of all time, she's right up there with Garbo, Catherine Deneauve and Elizabeth Taylor. Beautifully done.

  • This woman was absolutely stunning. One of the greatest beauties that had ever graced the silver screen.

  • not just beauty , but glamour as well ..

  • You are so right! Saw her in"ShowBoat" on the big screen at the AGMuseum First Fest in Smithfield,NC. Absolutely breathtaking in all of her scenes (even at the end without makeup!).

  • where are the beautiful women of those days ! ... Ava was a legend , still and will always be .. beautiful clip , nice music and most of all , the most beautiful woman ever

  • the perfect woman!!!

  • Ava Gardner had it natually. Not like todays actresses with their false boobs, false hair and false personalities. Ava made the men crawl on thier hands and knees and they were grateful for it.

  • There's no actress in Hollywood these days as beautiful as Ava Gardner.

  • She's very beautiful. I don't know who's Ava Gardner before. She became popular before I was even born. By the time I saw her movie "Showboat", and that her extraordinary beauty captured my attention, I found out that she have already died many years before. Anyway, I still think that she's one of the most beautiful movie star in old Hollywood movies.

  • Is a pity that Ava did´nt work at "The pink panther", "Sweet youth bird" and "The graduate"(as Mrs. Robinson), she was offered to work in. With that films and the others she did, she would be the most great myth in Hollywood. Any way, the most beautiful and authentic. With Marilyn, THE ONLY ONE.

  • I'll make sure to check it out then!!! Thanks for sharing your work with us!!!

  • Pretty is in the eye of the beholder...To me Ava was the most gorgeous one..

  • The true Queen of Hollywood...

  • Beautiful clips! You've done it in great taste!! Thank you

  • Thank you for all these Movie Legends postings, they are wonderful!

  • the music is just perfect n so was she.......

  • Beautiful woman what more can i say!! what movie star's should look like Ava Gardner was.

  • basilnelson....I think there's no doubt why these magazines voted on Ava....It's the natural choice at this time....she was perfect....boone structures, perfect skin, a amazing nose, black hair contrasting with beautiful blue eyes (or green maybe!!!)....her legs that's from another world.....So!!! That's a good reason for Sinatra's madness!!!!

  • May I add that as I have expressed elsewhere previously:I believe that Sinatra sings his ballads to her and we can just go along for the ride. His was a voice that will never be duplicated - ditto for AG for her beauty and talent!

  • There is no one else in the golden era of hollywood that could compare in beauty with Ava Gardner...Marilyn Monroe were very plastic, a lot of superficial...Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn was more girls next door that movie goddess....Ava Gardner were the unspeakable beaty....she didn't need to talk, walk or dress to be beauty...SHE WERE BEAUTIFUL AT ALL!!!

  • You are so right. She was the last of the Goddesses. Thank goodness we have her dvds, videos, and recordings.

  • Beautiful work, a lovely tribute.

  • These women were Symbols of Beauty* now a days most

are symbols of a lost generation that doesnt appreciate

    true beauty anymore.

  • When you see these vintage beautys` how did we lose

the Magic?..the beautiful hair styles? and clothing?

sadly we have few women these days that can claim

this level of physical beauty. Thankyou

  • She was so pretty. Why cant women look like that nowadays?

  • Lovely, just lovely. Thank you.
