I agree that as a season finale the fight between Doomsday and Kent was not the greatest. But i'd assume that the writers are trying to keep a bit of the suspense rom the comics in there. In which he's burried underground but comes out of it due to his ability to overcome whatever obstacles come his way. He comes back and kills most of the the justice league and the only one who could survive was Maxima. (The alien who wanted to mate with clark)
Also, I don't like the convenient plot devices the writers use. Over the last year, I decided to give the show a chance and actually watched all 8 seasons front to back.
I don't like when something goes bad, time travel becomes an option. Also, every time Clark starts a fight in a room with people who don't know about his powers, those people lose consciousness conveniently.
Didn't Chloe have the power to heal? Why didn't she fucking save her husband?!
I agree, Clark needs to start operating more under the radar. As far as Chloe, I think the idea is that her powers were altered or removed after the Brainiac fiasco, but I'm just going off rumors and guesses. I do see your point on that though.
The jimmy thing actually makes sense..keep in mind that jimmy from the comics is much younger. That actually is right. Plus the olsen we got to know is actually a far better investigator then jimmy was. No way the jimmy we know figure half of that out.
Hated the doomsday fight however in fairness pre-superman would have been killed. In fact doomsday being buried is about right though.
Finally zod thing was just random. I hope rosenbaum comes back as luthor.
thanks for reminding me what happened. it was so unmemorable. I hope season 9 is the final season. its just gone on way too long and I'm starting to feel a bit too old to watch it now.
Yeah, I kinda want them to bring it to a climax myself. It's been 8 years, Clark is about 22-23 years old and working at the Planet. It's time to lose the Red-Blue Blur and become Superman already.
Too bad he's not as anxious to actually put on the suit. I don't understand, you are playing Clark, you know where this character ends up yet you are hesitant to put on the cape...don't understand that. At least wear it long enough to end Smallville with don't you think?
agree! One of my favorite superman scenes was from the louis and clack series from the 90s, when clark was testing out different costumes. I hope they don't end Smallville without some superman action. The last thing I want to see is it ends with Clark flying off into the sunset as soon as he puts on the cape. 8 years I've waited to see him fly damit. I want to see Superman, at least rescue a cat from a tree :)
I love how in the first season he sleep-flies. He knows full well he could fly BUT DOESN'T. Who in the fuck doesn't want to fly?! If you knew for the last 10 years you could, wouldn't you pursue it?
He laughs off the dual identity thing, but runs around without a suit while being apart of a super league with costumed heroes.
the 2 good things in this episode was that clark finally stops acting based on his feelings and that lana didn't show up Yippi but the rest i agree with you the showdown between clark and doomsday sucked ass. ffs my brother and i can do a better showdown then what we saw!!!
Seriously. What they did to Davis, Jimmy, Chloe, and Clark? No good Doomsday fight? I was enjoying the season for the most part (especially the Davis storyline, which deserved an ending worthier of the complexity it brought to the show) and then this crap happened. My brain feels violated for having watched it. I'm not a fan of resets, but Lois needs to go back in time with the Legion Ring and help reset this nonsense. No way I'm watching s9 after this.
omg, I totally flipped out when II saw the 'real' Jimmy. I mean Aaron Ashmore portrayed Jimmy so well- loves his job, good friends with Clark, looks up to him, always with the camera. that was one way for the writers to mislead the viewers.
Yeah I kinda agree with you on the season finale. It was'nt a disapointment the only disapointment was not seeing the fight between doomsday and clark longer than it was, cuase like u I was so excited, cuase I really wanted to see what he looked like, suppose to be all big and bad. But it was a great season and i cant wait for season nine maybe darkside will appear.
ITA with everything you said. I am also really pissed that DAvis turned out to be the psycho without DD inside him... My major WTF moment was when Doomsday left everyone alive after being separated. At least put some blood on someone to mnake it seem like there was a struggle...
Exactly my thoughts. Season 8 was one of the best seasons and they throw it all away in one single episode. Davis was such a complex character and what did they made of him when they seperated him from his alter ego?! This finale was bullshit and everyone of the characters (Chloe, Clark, Davis - even Jimmy - the hero?! oh come on!) was simply out of character and so far from normal.
Maybe they redo this thing in season 9 when they are going to tell us, that fis final was just a bad dream.
I agree with you! The worst part was the "lightswitch" of Davis Bloome. They build up a character who is looking for redemption and then they turn him into a psychopath. Even Sam Witwer didn't get it. Just horrible writing. Everything about the episode just plain sucked!!!!
I agree with you. You know what sucked too- getting Chloe and Jimmy back together. I was glad Jimmy came to his senses about how much Chloe had sacrificed and what not but when they make Davis look like the bad guy, they made Jimmy look like some saint. Not that he's a bad guy but it's horrific that they made one 'black' and one 'white'- if you get what i mean.
I didn't mind the episode but I agree that it had a lot of faults to it, but I've gotten so use to that and I really don't notice anymore. But the biggest downfall for me was the Doomsday vs. Clark fight, I mean why bring such a character like Doomsday and then not use him to his full potential. Not to mention Keppy Sounders promised us a smackdown. Also I don't remember other times Clark has tried to drop his CK ID of his own free will, its only on Red K when that has happened.
I was just refering to the times the story has taken the turn of Clark not being Clark anymore, red K or not. Let us not have to see that again! And yeah, Doomsday and Clark should have had a much bigger battle for all they built it up.
Not saying it's not an overdone cliche for the show, your right its been used quite a bit since Season 2. But I think the difference here is that Clark is choosing this and this is only the 2nd time he's made that choice. But this time he's doing it on his own (apparently), and I always felt on some level CK had to die in order for him to fully become Superman.
I can see your point in that but it depends on the route they take. Is Superman the real person and Clark the disguise or vice versa? Either way, I think the writers need to pay a little more attention to the promises they make and not pull anymore crappy outs to the storyline...ala Jimmy dying but not being "the" Jimmy.
Couldn't you tell from the fact that EVERY SINGLE EPISODE this season has had a preview of previous relevant scenes--it's so obvious it was being done to SAVE $. SFX has been dramatically cut, mainstays like Lex are gone (wasn't he supposed to be back in a cameo?)--They need to put a LOT more money in the show and bring back key characters or this is just a waste of celluloid.
Lex did have a cameo in Requiem it just wasn't Michael Rosenbaum, and I think the reason for the flashbacks was, in part, due to the huge breaks in the seasson between episodes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not discounting what you said though. They shouldn't have to recap everything for those people who actually pay attention and watch. It makes me wonder when Smallville turned into Supernatural.
Yeah, I just wanted to touch on the parts that really ruined it. I really, other than her disappearing that early, had no complaints about any of the Lois scenes. I agree though...she was gone way too early. Not even a hint of where she went, usually we get that much.
LoL your review was so spot on. I am royally pissed that they are bringing Zod back yet again. I am so sick of that character. And you know they are going to screw him up like they screwed Doomsday. I think we all should have known the finale was going to suck, because the premiere sucked so much.
I agree with your review, it was crap, and the entire season I was lookin forward to this huge, epic battle between clark and doomsday, only to get that little 1 minute fight, doomsday punches clark in the gut a couple times, punched him through a couple buildings, then clark tackles and carries him underground, and THAT WAS IT?! WHAT THE FUCK!?
Hey you inspired me to make a web review. Mine is mostly about Davis, though and the utter obliteration that was his ending. Check out mine if you get a chance and leave a comment! :)
I'm a Superman fan and will probably keep watching. I can only hope the writers/producers learn from their mistakes...or from all the pissed off fans...and can improve the show. I won't give up on it totaly but I sure want some improvments.
What I really want to see is the real Clark and Lois get together romantically. Lois and the RBB form a relationship -ok at first, by phone, but eventually, it would have to be face to face! And how, HOW, will they explain away that she doesn't RECOGNIZE him as Clark Kent!!! The person that she has know pretty intimately as a friend for several years now! We want Lois to learn his secret, and we want her to form a relationship with Superman and Clark - as the same person!
Why didn't Chloe heal Jimmy!!! This is just wrong!!! I thought Jimmy was the best character in the WHOLE SHOW, right behind Clark and Lois. I didn't like the way the writers play with our emotions so much, like ... just when Chloe and Jimmy get back together and declare their love for each other... then he gets killed!!!!! This is horribly cruel to us.
I thought about that after posting this. She got rid of Braniac but she should still have her metor powers. Yeah, they certainly play with emotions quite a bit.
i agree with most of the things u said, apart from the jimmy thing, that charactor/ actor, just pissed me off the whole way through smallville, i no hes in the comics, but come the fuck on,. i wanted jimmy 2 die in a more painful way >;)
i totallly agree,... i felt so let down!! arggh!! maybe they were struggling to actually decide who to let go,.... and they just picked an idea straight out of the hat. still, i think clark was actually killed,... and the new clark kent will return in season 9.
I thoroughly agree with everything you said. it was crap. Everything so evidently invented in the last minute, The worst I think was when a magicianlike manner, taking white rabbits from a hat, voila, ce Zod! So Doomsday was not so doomy in the end. Clark not knowing how he defeated him? LorD!!!And Clark lame speech with Chloe. This so stupid! The only think I liked from this finale is the good takes of Clark's face before the attack, I tell you. And that because I am a woman.
Oh yes and Jimmy dies??? Hellooooo??? Then his brother will take over Jimmy's role??? What? He gets this "I lost my brother complex and be him so he lives forever??? I feel cheated. I totally agree with you superman179.
The second thing that I didn't like was that Chloe never really acknowledge her hand in any of this. She told Clark that she did what he wanted - separated Davis from Doomsday, as if she didn't want that same thing herself. She acts like she has strong feelings for Davis - baking for him, offering to run off with him, talking about a life together on top of the car - but in the end, it was all for Jimmy, err and also Clark. Oh and she "thought" she was in love but she was wrong. What the heck?
It was a really great season for me. One of if not THE best of all EXCEPT for the STUPID STUPID!!!! season finale. What was that all about? The beginning was too slow, like they dragged it on to fill the 45 or so minutes then the lame fight between Doomsday and Clark. WTH??? And then there's this man standing on Lex's backyard who is obviously Sam Witwer standing on a giant Z (for Zod).
Loved your critique on the SV season finale. I'll add a couple of things that I hated that you didn't mention, and I'd love to get your take on that. I hated what they did to Davis. They spend all season showing us this guy who hates his dark side, who wants to stop the beast, who even tries to kill himself to spare the world. Then the last 5 minutes of the episode, they totally obliterate that. They split him from Doomsday and make Davis a maniacal, obsessed killer. Thanks for ruining him.
No, I agree with you I was pissed that they did that to him. I understand they did it for the whole Clark "realization" that his humanity is his weakness and CK is dead crap...but it was still bullshit. Chance for redemption and they do this to him. Horrible!
That was great...I think we should have known the finale was going to suck because the premiere sucked. Dang y didnt we make that connection. And you totally read my mind about Zod, wtf is he back again?
That was great...I think we should have known the finale was going to suck because the premiere sucked. Dang y didnt we make that connection. And you totally read my mind about Zod, wtf is he back again?
Man, this episode sucked so bad, it actually hurt to watch it. Lois was like in 10 minutes of the entire episode. This whole Chloe/Davis/monster crap...AWFUL. The "fight" a freaking disgrace, Jimmy not being the real Jimmy was just plain bullsh*t.
I agree with you. The ONLY good scene was Lois and Clark over at the DP. I thought "Power" and "Requiem" were bad, but atrocity of season finale is really close to those two right now.
I agree with you, this show would be awesome if the writers would quit trying to make a mess of things... too much is too much! Just write a simple story line.... better yet, go get a comic and copy it...
Stop with the dead one episode alive, the next... it sucks!!
Quit screwing over your talented cast and write something that makes freak'n sense. No wonder the ratings are horrible...
I gave the show substantial amount of chances for some improvement, and our reward for being loyal fans is a 1 minute fight between Clark and DD? The producers need to snap out out of their little world and provide us with some exquisite and mesmerizing stories. The finale did not have anyone in peril to want us to come back for the remnants of the series for the premiere. I am so depressed! :(
I really believed that after last year's travesty of "Arctic", we would get a better finale. Some people despised it and some adored it. I am still on the fence about it. I loathed the DD fight, as it was very short in duration. Looks like the show has really run it's course. They are prolonging the inevitable. If this trajectory of mediocre episodes continues, the show might not even get a proper series finale.
Furthermore, there is a cornucopia of Kandor questions that has to be alleviated in the premiere. Was Zod masquerading as the voice in the orb just so that Tess does his bidding? Was Tess the catalyst in his evil game to create Kandor on earth for S9? Is Tess his adversary? God, I am quivering with sadness and mystery. There is a huge kaleidoscope of potential storylines for S9: Kandor, Superman, Eradicator, Zod/Faora. What are your sentiments pertaining to the person who came out the orb?
Will Lois alter the events of the finale, changing the deaths and the events? There is a lot that has to be elaborated in the premiere...but I will tell you one thing. The Zod premise is a bit dry...I would like The Eradicator. I hope the show is reinvigorated and rejuvenated for S9/10, because I felt the DD fight was short and many fans are outraged and infuriated. What do you think? Do you think they left DD to come back...in S10, before the series finale, where Clark dies in Lois' arms?
Exhilarating review, mate. I enjoyed it. I am also overwhelmed with emotions...I was getting a bit teary-eyed last night. So much was going on. There are an abundant amount of questions to be answered now. Did Tess really implement the orb to control the Traveler, hence why Kal-El emerged, and Clark died? Has Tess morphed into Faora, Zod's wife? Is that Zod..or The Eradicator? Will Lois reverse the time now that she went to the future with the Legion ring?
You are so right man, i've always had this addiction with Smallville, but after this episode... it kinda just went away. I'm very very disappointed in the Fight between CK DD it lasted for only 56 seconds... to be honest i found the lois and tess fight more amusing than that fight (if you even call that a fight). I'm not so worried about the ZOD back though.. Sam Witwer will be playing him according to spoilers at Kryptonsite. Overall, Great Video! You speak for all of us!
I'm just calling it as I see it but I have read and heard so many things about people disappointed. Perhaps it will filter down to the people who run the show and they can make season 9 better.
you forgot who Lois was only in the first 5-10 minutes of the episode and disappears with legion ring..and there was never any hint or lead where she is..unless she's with legion in the future.
Yeah, but I was just going over what I hated, the Lois parts were about the only thing I did like about the episode, especially the scene between her and Clark while he's on the phone with her in the first part of the episode. I'm curious to find out what happened to her.
yeah i get you...i was just saying how i was quite disappointed on the fact that Lois was on for such a short time. I rather have seen more Lois waking up in the future...i mean at least in towards the ending, but they couldn't even do that. I loved the scene between Clark and Lois and well...before Clark went to "fight" Doomsday...he saw the phonebooth and it reminded him of Lois and she wasn't there and he felt something bad happened to her.
No, I believe it was the return of Zod. That's what I mentioned, don't know why he has to come back. We already tackled that on Smallville. Plus I heard Sam Witwer who played Davis is gonna play Zod next season.
So it won't be the last we see of Doomsday ;)

hey do you think that was lex being controlled by zod. it'd begreat to bring lex back and he was the original vessel and he looked bald from the back
boomshocka93 2 years ago
No, apparently Sam Witwer is rumored to come back as Zod since he is Davis' "father" as mentioned by Lois when she was possesed by Faora.

Yeah, I agree with you.

LovGyrl 2 years ago
No, I agree with you I was pissed that they did that to him. I understand they did it for the whole Clark "realization" that his humanity is his weakness and CK is dead crap...but it was still bullshit. Chance for redemption and they do this to him. Horrible!

That was great...I think we should have known the finale was going to suck because the premiere sucked. Dang y didnt we make that connection. And you totally read my mind about Zod, wtf is he back again?

It SUCKED ass !!! it was worst Than The cheesy episodes they throw in between a season ..YET . season finale ?? Total Garbage

haha! this was funny , but you were spot on dude!
the finale had so much potential.. did they honestly believe that the fans will appreciate a finale like that?
the season started great but i cant believe that they choked on the season's most important episode..
that episode was their chance to win some fans back.. they blew it.. i hope that they dont get cancelled though.. i still want to see ED! :)

Yes, more Erica as Lois...I love her character. I am curious as to what happened to her after she found the ring.

DrazenVoliSrbiju 2 years ago

DrazenVoliSrbiju 2 years ago
I think we may be facing Zod again, the rumor is Sam Witwer will return to play Zod since he is supposed to be Davis' Dad.
supermanl79 2 years ago
Will Lois alter the events of the finale, changing the deaths and the events? There is a lot that has to be elaborated in the premiere...but I will tell you one thing. The Zod premise is a bit dry...I would like The Eradicator. I hope the show is reinvigorated and rejuvenated for S9/10, because I felt the DD fight was short and many fans are outraged and infuriated. What do you think? Do you think they left DD to come back...in S10, before the series finale, where Clark dies in Lois' arms?
DrazenVoliSrbiju 2 years ago
Exhilarating review, mate. I enjoyed it. I am also overwhelmed with emotions...I was getting a bit teary-eyed last night. So much was going on. There are an abundant amount of questions to be answered now. Did Tess really implement the orb to control the Traveler, hence why Kal-El emerged, and Clark died? Has Tess morphed into Faora, Zod's wife? Is that Zod..or The Eradicator? Will Lois reverse the time now that she went to the future with the Legion ring?
DrazenVoliSrbiju 2 years ago
Wow, some good points...never thought of those. Guess we'll have to see if season 9 can redeem this travesty!
supermanl79 2 years ago
You are so right man, i've always had this addiction with Smallville, but after this episode... it kinda just went away. I'm very very disappointed in the Fight between CK DD it lasted for only 56 seconds... to be honest i found the lois and tess fight more amusing than that fight (if you even call that a fight). I'm not so worried about the ZOD back though.. Sam Witwer will be playing him according to spoilers at Kryptonsite. Overall, Great Video! You speak for all of us!

I'm just calling it as I see it but I have read and heard so many things about people disappointed. Perhaps it will filter down to the people who run the show and they can make season 9 better.

and poor Jimmy ;( or *Henry James Olsen..*

Jimmy not being Jimmy it's crap! IT'S TOTALLY BULLSHIT!
I'm with you about the "Next season? Eh, what do I care?"
These people can't write anything...

you forgot who Lois was only in the first 5-10 minutes of the episode and disappears with legion ring..and there was never any hint or lead where she is..unless she's with legion in the future.
gotkatzyeeyee 2 years ago
Yeah, but I was just going over what I hated, the Lois parts were about the only thing I did like about the episode, especially the scene between her and Clark while he's on the phone with her in the first part of the episode. I'm curious to find out what happened to her.
supermanl79 2 years ago
yeah i get you...i was just saying how i was quite disappointed on the fact that Lois was on for such a short time. I rather have seen more Lois waking up in the future...i mean at least in towards the ending, but they couldn't even do that. I loved the scene between Clark and Lois and well...before Clark went to "fight" Doomsday...he saw the phonebooth and it reminded him of Lois and she wasn't there and he felt something bad happened to her.
gotkatzyeeyee 2 years ago
Yeah, I liked that as well! You can tell he cares for her. And I wished she was in there more too. Hopefully next season...More Lois!

I DID NOT GET THE ENDING....WAS THAT CLARKS SPIRIT????

No, I believe it was the return of Zod. That's what I mentioned, don't know why he has to come back. We already tackled that on Smallville. Plus I heard Sam Witwer who played Davis is gonna play Zod next season.
