it's ok for them to hunt to survive. you'll not say to an african population "stop hunting buffalos!", right? the problem is when the japanese and other people decide that among all the different kind of meat that they already dispose of, they have to eat even whale-beef. they threathen these populations too, because less whales means less food to them.
Personally I would never buy meat products from Wal-Mart and I am a Vegetarian. I think that all meat consumed should be done in a responsible way. Killing animals that only reproduce once every four years, and sometimes will have less 3 or less calves are animals that need to be protected. While whaling might have been needed a hundred years ago, there are plenty of ways to get meat that don't effect vulnerable animal populations.
The thing that I dont like about fishers or hunters (but mostly fishers since they are fishing way too much fish) is that farmers - they are growing up the animals, giving them food and sheler.

Personally I would never buy meat products from Wal-Mart and I am a Vegetarian. I think that all meat consumed should be done in a responsible way. Killing animals that only reproduce once every four years, and sometimes will have less 3 or less calves are animals that need to be protected. While whaling might have been needed a hundred years ago, there are plenty of ways to get meat that don't effect vulnerable animal populations.
