I definitely recommend creating a short video of the assignment you create for a Virtual Assistant. I have used Jing and it's free (!!!) very cool. I create a 5 min video and then send it to the VA before they start the assignement and ask them if they have any questions. I make sure the video answers any of their questions. It helps b/c if you have a VA in like - singapore or India - like 12 hours ahead of me, they can look at the video over and over instead of always calling me.

Also useful is to confirm with a VA that they understand the assignment you send and to ask them on the phone if they have any questions they have before starting the assignement. I also usually let them know that they can contact me to ask questions as they go along, it goes a long way in getting the assigment done and on time.
