  • how was that NOT a forward wrap with the whip finish? Is it an optical illusion I didn't catch? and how do you reverse wrap direction without unwinding? I'm confused.

  • I made a wrap that wasn't so much forward as over the same general area and you may have seen some forward wraps with some backward wraps. The end result is a series of half hitches rather than a whip finish. With the application of head cement, both will last but the traditional way is a whip finish applied in the correct manner. I still stand corrected.

  • Very nice tie. Thanks for sharing this. You helped me tremendously.

  • Nice tie. Somewhat simpler than others, but a great outcome. Thanks for sharing....

  • Great - well done - verry clear

  • nice work man. like the description of guard hair and fluff!!

    Cheers

  • Well, lets try again, Nice instruction until the whip finish. Whip finish should be done with all forward wraps, not backward, so the final loop does not go over the turns of the whip finish as it is being pulled tight. Other than that a very nice instruction.

  • You are correct in the formation of a whip finish. In making flies, I sometimes hurry the end, but when doing a demonstration, I should have been more careful. That said, I've never had a fly come apart at the head, even when the whip finish wasn't done correctly. Thanks for the comment.

  • excellent instruction. thats one of my most best producing patterns and works really good if you add a couple of rubber legs to it :)

  • Hmm.. it looks good, i might look into that.

    And nice fly

  • what kind of vise is that?

  • It's a Griffin Odyssey vise (the older screw type) that I've been very pleased with over the last several years.

  • thanks fo the video it really made tying it much easier! As a newer tyer I wasn't sure where to get the guard hairs so thanks for the visual it was a big help.

  • Nice work. But you said you were using a Musted 3906B 1-XL but 3906B only comes in sizes 20 to 4. Did I miss something by change?

  • The 3906B has a shank that is 1XL longer than normal giving you a bit more room for the fly to be tied. The hook size was a size 14 in the demo and I usually tie the fly is size 12 to 18 for fishing with 14 and 16 being the most common. Thanks for the comment.
