Are you making this list? If so, don't forget about another Konami classic - Gradius III. UN Squadron had some awesome music too. Guilty Gear will definitely be in the upper part of the list (I hope).

I have no clue what #1 would be, but I'm thinking either something from Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, or the mario theme. The Mario theme may not be the best music but EVERYONE knows it.

@snizshizzle I've shamelessly listened to video game music for as long as I can remember and you have really nailed some of my favorite music in your post. U.N. Squadron has great music and is possibly my favorite SNES game and Top Gear 1&2 has some great music also. Check out "Mad Racer".
