one of my favorite things to think about is that the Coast Guard is the antithesis to the rest of our military there main purpose isn't to kill the enemies but rather give lives instead of taking them :) hope to make it in when I try out for it
Wow I think its bullshit the little amount of graditude is given to the Coast Guard, I have alot of respect for these guys, their out there saving lives just like all service members
i dont see why so many people talk crap about the coast guard. there the hardest branch to get in to. they take very very few people. and there still ones defending America, im going to be a marine soon. and i have respect to all branches. sure they are all different. but look at it as... They want to defend there country and put there lives on the line to keep people they dont know and will never meet safe.
Im suprised so many people realize the US Coast Guard does so much. "So others may live." That means a lot. It means you'll always give 150%. If its between you and a stranger, you let the stranger live, when your own life is on the line. Most poeple donlt realize what the Coast Guard does. Who protected the waterways during-after 9-11-01? The USCG and NYPD. Who lent their ships to the Navy in Veitnam? The USCG. They're a branch too. Im a young teen but 1 day ill be an old vet. Semper Paratus.
@countryatvboy And before people yell at me for not including every other branch, i know many people in different branches. Every single one does something for their country, including police and firefighters. Our country would not be here without them. All branches look out for eachother and pick one another up.
@ssy75 I was in the Coast Guard for 10 years. There is no better service out there. I will always appreciate what our men and women do in the Armed Forces, but the Coast Guard is one step beyond that, we fight with our Armed Forces during conflicts AND continue to do our Maritime, border patrol and search & rescue duties. We are largely forgotten until we are needed, but always stand proud and ready! There is no greater honor than to be a part of the U.S.Coast Guard whether its 4 or 20 yrs
I am currently in the Army. I ETS February 2012 and want to transfer to the Coast Guard. If any of the service members can give me a little advise about it please. No matter what branch you serve in just do it because that is what you want to do, service is service and we are all family.
Do not join the CG. I speak on behalf of every single CG active duty member I have come in contact with in my too many years of service. It is a fractured, bureaucratic organization filled with red-tape, inane and outdated policies, and worst of all, some of the most inept commands this side of N. Korea. If you are thinking about joining the CG, don't. If you feel compelled to join the military, join the AF. I've spent too many years in SAR and LE to be moved by this propaganda. Just say no.
omg!! thank you so much for helpin this country!! i respect all military! i have two army teachers and 1 marine corp. so its pretty awsome doing marine style bootcamp. i actually think i want to join the military when i get older!. perfect song and video put together!!
Great Vid! I have all the respect in the world for you, and all our great military sons and daughters!! Semper Paratus, and God's speed to you and yours...from: a proud mom of a USCG serving right now in Alaska
Good 4 U! My son loves it. Good luck to you, and thanks for your service!!! God bless u, your dad and family, and all our military!! From: A proud mom of a United States Coast Guardian
what everyone does not know that during hurricanes that it is both frighting and exciting at the same time and yet I look back to the day of hurricane Ike hit Galveston Texas and how I was saved by the Coast Guard and yet I never got a chances to thank the U.S. Coast Guard for saving my life during Hurricane Ike. everyone does not know that during hurricanes that it is both frighting and exciting at the same time
Beautiful tribute. I've got three more years to finish college than with a little luck I'm en route to the USCG. Upholding a long family line of servicemen!
Staring at the brown Bering Sea, countin fish and swabbing decks is mostly what you'll do. Don't let these videos of what a small tiny portion of the cg gets to do paint your picture of it. You'll get to see a lot and learn from many people around the world if you keep your nose clean and actually care instead of joining in with the bar port city sailors which will make up 85% of your ship.
Awesome! My daughter is 23 and in for 5 years and does SAR, and LE. My son in law has been in for 8 years and faces front lines in the USCG, he has been gone now for 4 months and we miss him! He is on the USCG Dallas that just left Georgia delivering Humanitarian relief after the war with Russia! So Lets give a shout out to everyone on the Dallas! Semper Paratus!!
Glad to see you're proud and support your daughter. I got support from my siblings while I was heaving over the side of my ship but my folks - nope. Home was an isolated town and house that turned its back and threw letters away.
Keep on what you do!! We love you! Hook up with Georgetown Station!! To bad for a house that turned their back. they are FOOLS!!! Give a shout out to Georgetown or Charleston and they will let you know what the USCG is all about!!
Thank you for this, mom with 18-yr-son at Cape May right now, miss him, sharing with Coastie mom....Semper paratus, agus beannacht liat Dia (God bless you in Irish)
Even our young ghost Sarah misses him. Since Eth's been gone, she has tossed my perfume bottle, thrown the olive oil decanter off the sink with my husband watching, polking us, turning Pavarotti up louder (our son and we love Pavarotti), poor Sarah. She misses him as much as we do...longest 8 wks of my life!:)
