  • sharpen it a bit.. and it will cut that mat like a dream.. my machete cut a mat better!

  • nice pun XD

  • it is a strait blade it sticks to the target and doesent slice through cleanly.....

  • @thejues It does is fully sharpened.

  • so it does cut and is very attractive.

all in all a very good sword for the price, but hey haters gonna hate and say it is not good enough because they forget there is no real wars with swords alone anymore.

  • sharpened or windlass factory edge?

  • European (England, Norway, France, etc) swords were more so used for thrust stabbing, as oppose to Japanese or Chinese blades were for slicing. They still made good swinging weapons for deadly blunt trama and broken bones though. These results were expected. The swords fine and doesn't direly, necessarily need to be sharpened.

  • @Mastermind8908 The type X/XI blades were made for cutting rather than stabbing.

  • @nivenheim

well actually it is not like a baseball bat because some swords have its point of balance near the hilt, that, plus the fact that most of them are thin at the point and wide near the handle and not viceversa (like a baseball bat) makes those blades better at near-handle-cuts.

The problem here must be: A) sharpening B) This guy swings like a little boy

  • defenently neds to be sharpened mate, almost ANY sword has the ability to cut through these things effortlessly if properly sharpened with proper technique

  • Ohhhh i saw exactly the same awesome sword for 20 Dollar at Wal Mart. Great quality^^

  • could prolly get a better edge with a rock lol

  • leaves your arm hanging off by a thread

  • should have sharpened it completely and actually cut with the edge

  • WANNABE VIKING FAIL

  • Simiilarly to Viking sword- we temper sword in bufffalo/cow urine- which add nitrates to blade.

Urine is common for tanning skins, bleaching textiles etc- in old times- even today- finest Italian leather is still urine-tanned.. We have some tanners in Java who sell goat - sometimes foetus leather to Gucci and Louis Vuitton.

A katana is not multiple tempered like a pattern welded sword.

Am intricate cable pattern in a pattern-welded sword is equally effectually laminated to a folded sword.

  • The cutting technique is not based in the strenght...

  • Sticklestad Viking Sword. Originating from Norway and the battle of "Stiklestad" as it is called in Norwegian. Am I right?

  • Stikklestad ;D Everything else is right, im a Norwegian, and ive been there. Had a huge sword for over 2000 norwegian kroner. 1$ is about 7 kroner i think... :D

  • You are correct.

  • that's not a flop the tissue disruption is gigantic!

  • Its sword, cut some flesh in half instead of wood and whatnot.

  • well, it was only partially sharpened...

but hey, as long as the other guy is dead, big deal.

  • finally done w/ my homework ne1 4 chat? J

  • You know nothing about swords. Die in a fire.

  • Stop posting the same lame comment on each video. At least try to come up with some original insult if you are going to try and express the bitterness that is the totality of your pathetic being.

  • the second sounded like you broke your arm

  • I have a high pain threshold obviously. :D

  • another viking sword test on youtube. They cut off the whole bootle!

  • what samurai sword and steel are the swords ,my japanese swords are real and heavy and cut like butter through knife

  • Weight matters. Hammers, like in Thor's hammer, were great weapons because you could broke bones. I own a Viking sword and they are so thick that un-sharpened you could beat someone to dead with it.

  • Then I guess you don't have a real Norse sword because they are not thick. Really people if you have a thick heavy sword that is intended to be wielded by one hand and its heavy and thick it would not be a ideal weapon for you and the battle fields.

  • keep practicing!!...exelent steel, smash!

  • I think the weight and the impact of the sword cause the damage.

  • i guess cutting tatamis is a great way to test sharpness but not to test effectiveness on armored combat. and if you follow history vikings were great warriors and theirs swords cannot have been that bad.

  • I agree. But this is of course a replica, and the main issue was the sharpening service of the company that I bought it from. After these tests I sharpened it myself and it cuts fine...

  • Actually, if you Youtuibe "Blunt Cutting" you will see guys using blunt swords to cut through tatami. One guy gets through 2 and 3/4 with a blunt longsword.

Of course the viking sword is one handed, and honestly, your form wasn't the best =)

    Still a good cut though.

  • True enough about the form. But do a ytube search for 'Clements Parody'. I sword doesn't have to be sharp to cut, but it does need the right geometry and/or level of sharpness. This sword, sharpened the way it was, had neither.

  • eww viking swords blow, i would rather a katana, a katana would slice thru that like butter

  • so would a real sharpend viking sword. If you actually watched the video it said partially sharpend. Viking swords were in real life very sharp.

  • well yea the viking sword actually works a different way. Against armor it tears through and actually cuts. The japanese sword if went against some kind of chest plate it will cut but will not go deep. So you can tell what happened during the 1500's

  • actually the viking sword was designed for cutting and slashing if you were to look at the visby battle field (although a little later than viking period) you would see the wounds were actually cuts and slashes not tears. By the way I saw you put a comment on my groups video's from our member Skallagrimm and he and I are co-founders of that group so I pretty sure how viking weapons work since I have been studing viking culture for 20 years now.

  • im surprised there is still stuff to study about vikings they were around so long ago,

and wasnt the viking race wiped out at one point?

  • um no they weren't wiped out. They assimulated into what ever society they either raided or settled with. There is alot of stuff out there about the vikings and norse culture. Do you realize that 4 out of the seven days are named of the Norse Gods. Tuesday (Tyr's day) wednesday (Woden or Odin's day) Thursday (Thor's day) Friday (can't remember if it is Frigga's or Frey"s day) Go to skallagrimms page and we have our webpage address there take a look.

  • wow thats pritty crazy lol i never knew that at all lol

i probley would have but im more for the samurai history

  • samurai history is boring its just like the chinese history. But if your so interested. lets find out where Udon noodles come from. Koreans or Japanese. Because both races claim it was from them.... Between you and me i think the chinese made everything.

  • samurai history is fuckin awesome!

they were some of the best warrior to set foot on this earth

  • Ehhh well their cool and all but like all warriors they rape the land they invade. Killing many raping women and making orphans

  • they were not the greatest... perhaps the greatest overly hyped. if a samurai was on a battlefield in europe or the middle east they would've been trampled. the ninja are way more interesting. their effectiveness went a lot deeper than just knowing how to fight. it was more about deceipt cunning and knowledge. which are a lot more effective weapons than what type of sword you have.

  • I am intrigued by the Ninja history cause there are signs that it could have been influenced by the Middle Eastern assassins, to the Chinese Moshuh Nanren, and from there diffusing over to Japan.

  • ha ha i consider vikings like from Iceland or sum thin like the Scottish and stuff right?

  • Well, that is a bit insulting. Vikings were nto wiped out, they ruled all of northern europe, and discovered north america

  • u sure? Ehhh i guess those old documentaries on you tube are lies then. Anyways i like swords and blades alot. Especially the weird shaped ones.

  • You tell him, Thunar.

  • damn that sword it sharp!!!!!!!!!!!! sike..

  • Not sharp enough, that's why I prefer katanas to do that kind of work.

  • Katanas for unarmoured personell.

Viking swords like this for armoured targets.

    :D

  • You think you're some kind of genius. He's trying to cut tatami mats, not metal or armor. ya digg. ;-)

  • I am aware of that, I'm just saying that the viking swords are not made for such things =)

  • Cutting tatami is no big deal at all.

    Watch watch?v=T5gVRckLF3A

Blunt longsword cutting through 2 3/4 tatami.

  • this sword kind off suck

  • True enough. I paid for a sharpening service (Windlass swords come blunt) and it obviously wasn't quite up to par. Very tough sword though, the heavier the target, the better it cuts...
