I am currently starting in Sumi ink painting and your video is a very dynamic way to start practicing this art. Is it alright if I start with a small brush? For in my country its hard to find good brushes for this style.
@yanghaiying It may not be the right way, bu it is a FUN and EASY to understand way! :D Thanks for answering fast. Thank you for your tip. I will practice now and I will try to send you a video of my bamboo practices. Really thank you.
I am showing your videos to students learning how to apply glaze and slip patterns to pottery. Your directions and motions are very inspiring for them. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and methodology:)

I'm trying to follow you, I am having problems with keeping the ink on my brush. Am I holding it to tight or pressing to hard? And than my brush splits. What can I do to correct that?
@AniHasNoClue The black square is a grinding stone, I got it from China. I used Chinese ink in this video. If not for grinding, I usually use meat or vegetable tray for color mixing.Thank you.
Dear Teacher, I have been trying to find a way of buying your DVD but I have not had any success to date. Also, my son is going to China this year on business and I want to give him a shopping list for my art group and myself. I can follow you wonderful lesson on U tube and I want to be able to bring DVD.s to them. Please help with many thanks....from Mo in London
Your explanation of technique is so clear and easy to follow. I would like to share this with my elementary students, but cannot access youtube at school. Is there another way to view this?

I made a brush from my dog's hair. I guess this would be close to the wolf hair brush, but a bit softer.

I'm trying the exercise with a CC4 Yasutomo...I'm not getting very good results...is this because this is a student grade brush?
otis2804 2 years ago
Maybe. As beginner, use good brush.Until you are more comfortable and skilled, you can use any brush.
