Whats funny to me, is all the people who defend pythons and such snakes as pets. I think pythons should be BANNED in America. Why? Because we do STUPID things like banning Pit Bulls cuz one idiot cant train their dog. Meanwhile, Pythons are getting released into the wild every day cuz the owner cant properly care for them when they get huge. So now we got pythons in places like Florida eating peoples dogs, cats, probably toddlers. And you still think a python is a better pet than a rodent?
Holy cow people they are mice, I am quite sure that if your house got infested with mice, brown or white and they started eating ur food, and pooping in ur pudding you would be singing a different tune! and you would be calling the exterminator! Snakes eat mice, its a part of life, deal with it!

i only watch this because it's interesting. it's a shame you don't see them get eaten. as i'm sitting here, with one of my snakes draped around my neck, she couldn't be calmer. yes, in the wild, she would be far more defensive because wild snakes are more food orientated. i only feed frozen rodents to all 6 of my snakes, i don't see the point in feeding live snakes in captivity if you doin't need to. i do love how people complain about how this is horrible etc, but who forces them to watch it ?

The other day, on a documentary, I saw a cute vole hunted down and eaten by an even more extremely cute weasel. There are animals that eat animals, regardless of cuteness. People are perfectly entitled to be revolted by snakes, adore mice, and feel sorry for a baby zebra who just can't outrun that lion. Animals eating animals is just reality, but people's emotional responses are real too. It's perfectly normal for a snake to eat a mouse, and it's perfectly normal for some people to not like it.
I like mice but it's called "The Food Chain" You can't have a snake that doesn't eat mice it has to eat them DEAD or ALIVE and the frozen mice are frozen ALIVE. Which is worse, dieng from being frozen or dieng from your neck being broken? Exacally! Also if you kill the snake then thats like killing a human for eating meat if you let the snake go then that's just putting dozens of mice in trouble because the snake can eat freely instead of like 2 mice a month. @ZachTheUndead they aren't frozen alive. they are put in a box, and carbon dioxide is very slowly released into it. they start to feel tired, go to sleep and then more gas is pumped, so they die in their sleep.

Generally though, you can't socialize mice like you can rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and the like- so they tend to just breed them however.

@PedroThePie 1. they dont feel pain from strangulation as the first few seconds of snake's strike shocks the heart and cause the rat to lose consciousness. if they dont faint after the strike, the strangulation blocks oxygenn intake to the brain which cause them to faint (if the rat is still moving thats just their reflex, the way frog's legs still moving even after its dead)
2. Snakes never swallow things alive, they will make sure the heart stop beating before swallowing their prey.

And the point is, the mice are given crappy homes, then sent away to a unknown place to see this giant beast and then killed. Would any of us want to live that sort of life?!?

@pippy1994 snakes can eat frozen, but defrosted prey. as long as you hold it and move it, they should eat it. it happens in the wild, so some people like to replicate it. in the uk, live feeding mice is borderline illegal

I've had mice, both for snake food and for pets, and unless you separate the males and females at the absolute earliest you can tell them apart you will have this situation in every bin of any size you can find unless you're killing them as fast as they're breeding, and that would take more snakes that any sane person would own.
The really sad part is this is better than the treatment of many animals bred for human consumption.

Actually many fluffs are sold as pinkies, before they even have fur or can breed at all. Many snakes and other pet animals eat fluffies and pinkies, so many people have feeder mice farms where the mice are completely white (from the inbreeding they carry no other gene color). Some healthy females may be kept to breed, but there isn't much purpose seeing as they may die young.
mice like this also supply some places that look after endangered reptiles with food that are endangered by rodent predation in the first place so its fare enough to breed them like this
Yes, you can buy frozen mice, but the mice still come from somewhere like this. They don't just magically start out frozen...they are bred in the hundreds of thousands all over the world to supply the snake industry every year.These are bred as FEEDERS not pets. Humans farm cow to eat...
What people should be moaning about is the people who breed their pet mice/rats andwhen they cant sell them, just chuck them in the petshop without a care knowing these pet mice could end up as feeders.
I'll agree that this is a pitiful living space. I mean, if that's just the container for carrying them to the snakes for feeding, fine, but to make them all live in a such a small container is terrible. As some have pointed out, they deserve a good home until they're 'appointment'. For one it'll mean they'll taste better to the snake, as it's a known fact that poorly treated foodstocks (animals and veggies) don't taste well if they're handled poorly.
These are feeder mice in a TEMPORARY bin waiting to be fed to snakes. Anyone who knows anything about breeding rodents knows this was not the way these mice were being kept. IF they were they would look like crap! literally.

2. You do realize in some countries, they do eat cats? I dont see how eating cats is relevent to instinct though.
3. Well when it comes to bigger snakes the mice are eaten whole and alive, the same way when the baby mice are fed, which by itself is horrible. And either way, I'm pretty sure that none of us would want to be eaten alive

@PedroThePie 1. they dont feel pain from strangulation as the first few seconds of snake's strike shocks the heart and cause the rat to lose consciousness. if they dont faint after the strike, the strangulation blocks oxygenn intake to the brain which cause them to faint (if the rat is still moving thats just their reflex, the way frog's legs still moving even after its dead)
2. Snakes never swallow things alive, they will make sure the heart stop beating before swallowing their prey.

@Notunyx I just cant stand this cause I really want to own mice, and every time I see a mouse get killed I get all emotional... But people have different minds than others, and while I can respect that, I still hate the fact that one mans choice kills the lives of many, and not with just feeder mice...
Well, the factorys give farm animals that sort of life, and I researched about that too, equally pissed off about it, but there are some places where the animals are treated fine, then killed

@pippy1994 snakes can eat frozen, but defrosted prey. as long as you hold it and move it, they should eat it. it happens in the wild, so some people like to replicate it. in the uk, live feeding mice is borderline illegal

I've had mice, both for snake food and for pets, and unless you separate the males and females at the absolute earliest you can tell them apart you will have this situation in every bin of any size you can find unless you're killing them as fast as they're breeding, and that would take more snakes that any sane person would own.
The really sad part is this is better than the treatment of many animals bred for human consumption.

@atvchick09 These are fluffies. They were bred to be fed to snakes, deal with it. Most are actually highly inbred and wouldn't live long if kept alive. They probably carry many genetic disorders from the high level of inbreeding.

@Fleefles Pet mice may not be inbred, because they are made to be sold as pets. Fluffies or feeder mice are bred to die. Actually many fluffs are sold as pinkies, before they even have fur or can breed at all. Many snakes and other pet animals eat fluffies and pinkies, so many people have feeder mice farms where the mice are completely white (from the inbreeding they carry no other gene color). Some healthy females may be kept to breed, but there isn't much purpose seeing as they may die young.

Yes, you can buy frozen mice, but the mice still come from somewhere like this. They don't just magically start out frozen...they are bred in the hundreds of thousands all over the world to supply the snake industry every year.These are bred as FEEDERS not pets. Humans farm cow to eat...
What people should be moaning about is the people who breed their pet mice/rats andwhen they cant sell them, just chuck them in the petshop without a care knowing these pet mice could end up as feeders.

I'll agree that this is a pitiful living space. I mean, if that's just the container for carrying them to the snakes for feeding, fine, but to make them all live in a such a small container is terrible. As some have pointed out, they deserve a good home until they're 'appointment'. For one it'll mean they'll taste better to the snake, as it's a known fact that poorly treated foodstocks (animals and veggies) don't taste well if they're handled poorly.
