The black horse is an apparition from Kate's past

The Black Smoke wasn't afraid of Eko, my theory is it was there just to read his past, because it came back later and killed him

what I think is gonna happen is that christian shepard is jacob and the smoke monster is a halusination or some thing like that, I think the person or who ever shot danielle and carl was like ont a person it kinda looked like a monster or some thing but it might be a person on the frighter too
