  • The way he says "Waiting" sounds like Seth Putnam on Picnic of Love.

  • perfect song

  • @TheRedGibson22 OK we get it. You like turtles.

  • Always has been one of my favorites, Fuck Dave, real Floyd lives on.

  • Syd... was amazingly hot.

    Just realized that.

But, that's not why I am here. Pink Floyd is and will always be the best band to walk this Earth. Can't you see? Everyone loves them? I am not one of those fans that has liked them just because "Wish you were here" or "The Wall" I am, and my family, are hard core fans, have been for generations and ages... :) I sound like a hipster, no hipsterness here, promise. But, seriously... Long live Syd Barret, David Gilmoure, and Roger Waters.

  • Oh my god this song makes feel Iike Towlie from South Park. Ohh, I am so high I don't know what's going on. What's going on man, pass me that joint already.

  • tell me more, about this song and it having to do with chemtrails. makes you wonder just how long they've been researching themr ight? agent orange, wwII... etc..

  • hey im baaaaaack, guess what? set the controls for the heart of the sun is about HAARP! muahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • When I think of a prime example of mid-sixties pschedelic music...The Piper at the Gates of Dawn stands as a FINE example of hippy dippy drug music. Well written. Smooth and intense at the same time. The early Floyd with Syd was quite a mix of chaos.

  • next skate song

  • = )

  • its about chemtrails in my brain, actually

  • arguments about the history of this band, or about who in the band is better than who, I just don't understand, is it fun to talk about who in the band fucked over who? LISTEN

  • ITS ABOUT CHEMTRAILS hahahahahaha! a king WITH HIS MAJESTY IN COMMAN A THOUSAND MISTY RIDERS CLIMB

DOCTOR PENCIL K ITS NOT A GREAT SONG BASED ON FAIRTY TALES, ITS A SONG ABOUT ONCE UPON A TIME DIDNT YOU LISTEN?

    LISTEN TO THE REST

  • @marjorleaguerape01 Chill out, you're giving conspiracy theorists a bad name by insisting this song is about chem-trails. Whack-O

  • ITS ABOUT CHEMTRAILS hahahahahaha! a king WITH HIS MAJESTY IN COMMAN A THOUSAND MISTY RIDERS CLIMB

    LISTEN TO THE REST

  • LSD is the best

  • I saw Pink Floyd on American Bandstand Winter 67. On the bleachers Clark asked if they thought psychedelic music would catch on or not. Smiles to all.

  • Best album ever made!

  • Best song on this album imo...

  • what would a live show have been like?

  • wright looks like a cop arresting his fauvourite painter piper and prisoner

  • @MoveOverCasanova Are those standard police issue trousers *__*

  • I feel like a kid again.

  • @ThePaulpFiction

    paulp fiction ahahahahah

  • syd barret, simple genius.

  • if piper was less sketch-like and had more good speedy songs, it would be the fucking greatest floyd album -- so it is simply brillant

  • @MoveOverCasanova

It's still one of the best albums ever

  • I admire Syd's ability to write such a great song based on fairytales and nursery rhymes.

  • @DoctorPencilK LIES, DISINFORMATION.

  • i want that shirt

  • Oh mother tell me more

  • One of the all time great albums.

  • so different lookin from 70's first album i heard was piper though and istill love it

  • I think EVERY generation of Pink Floyd is great ('60s-90s)

  • @BigRockMusicFan The only bad album IMHO was "the final cut"

  • @mastakilla88 Yeah it was kind of a downfall cause it was released AFTER The Wall...

  • @mastakilla88 I think Im the only one who enjoys the final cut. it took me quite awhile though to do so, though.

  • @TheRockNRollFan I like The Final Cut, although I think it's on the lower end of PF's career.

  • You only have to read the lines of scribbly black and everything shiiiinessss......

    <3

  • @roberto20roberto ... alguien q realmente coincide con mi opinion !!!! estoy muy de acuerdo contigo roberto 2 masterpieces recorded by that time in englan d !!!!!!!!

  • OMG! this album is the best i`ve heard, the gnome is my favorite song, but the last part of interstellar overdrive gives me the greatest orgasm with those movements in stereo sound, is incredible... Syd Barrett is the most crazy fucking man ever in life!

  • We should stop comparing the different phases of pink floyd to each other.

They changed so radically multiple times, it's like comparing hours to kilos,

both are measurements but that's where the similarities end.

  • 1.25 = best psychedelic freakout of all time!

    Atleast im my opinion

  • No doubt when Syd Barett was in control of the band the music was alot better, sure how can I forget Comfortably numb, Wish you were here, Money, Time. But you cant compare those classics to lets see: See Emily Play, Arnold Layne, Paintbox, Bike, Biding My Time, Lucifer Sam, I could go on and on.....

  • best song ever

  • WAKE UP MY GENERATION start listening to bands like the who pink floyd supertramp focus and others with a psycadelic sound that draws a tear from my mind ears and eyes

  • Syd centered this piece around the verses from Joseph Hilaire Pierre René Belloc's "Cautionary Tales (for Children)" Syd was forced to rewrite and re-record the track when Belloc's estate unexpectedly denied permission to use these lyrics.

  • never heard this til now how amazing syd was seemed so child like and lovable long live syd!!!!

  • Oh mother tell me more!

  • fly away Syd, fly so far away

  • @casildamorelli shine on you crazy diamond

  • a fairy tale for all ages :))

  • Bet no one guessed that the same band doing this would create Animals and The Wall a decade later.

  • 6 people either fail at life or clicked the wrong button by mistake!

  • una de mis favoritas de pink floyd, junto a flaming mis favoritas de THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN que por cierto para mi es el mejor disco de la musica popular...

  • God i had never really looked up Barrett Floyd before and it's just so damn good! I love both Floyds but Barrett's incarnation was a totally different band reminiscent more of The Beatles. Damn I just LOVE Pink Floyd all around!!

  • Syd Barret :')

  • this song is one of the best pink floyd song's!!!!!!!! i love it!!! great Barrett!!!!!

  • I´m afraid you are making a big mistake Ms BILIEGIRL! cos music does not rule just as music ruled our minds till back the early 90´s, as far as I am concerned real good music has died since.

  • syd barrett is genius.

  • @maidenamerica814 im a genious

  • Let's see... Sgt Pepper...Piper and S F Sorrow all being made at the same time in the same studios....now look what comes out in 2010...I thought things were supposed to progress....sad statement on the music scene today creative wise eh??

  • @JustineLaLoba You've forgotten Odessey and Oracle by the Zombies ~ a brilliant album. Recording started at Abbey Road in June 1967.

  • @SuperNevile It is indeed a wonderful Album but for me not as ground breaking as the three mentioned. Don't get me wrong...I own almost everything by the Zombies and Colin Blunestone is one of thee most underated vocalist of all time..Argent and White....you have great taste!

  • @wotdoesthisbuttondo beautifully put! "dolls house darkness old perfume." what a lyrical master Mr Barrett was!!!

  • "Across the stream with wooden shoes, bells to tell the king the news",

What can you say eh except fuckin awesome and i've had at least 25 trips over time so i know what i'm talking about :-)

p.s acid's not big or clever so impressionable kids out there be smart unlike myself or Syd and leave it alone and just enjoy the music

  • whyd you have to leave me there waiting in my infant chair? waiting!

This is the PF that will always be special to me. Thanks for posting.

  • @DDBB2012 no

  • pink floyd makes muic and music is awesome

  • RIP Syd

  • Syd rightly gets one heckuva lot of credit but notice that Rick Wright features ever so prominently in the early days. I think many mistake Rick's input for Syd's and I fell into this trap too. Rick and Syd, the Great Gig in the Sky playing at heavens near you :)

  • me, born in 1963 had the geat luck to hear this beautiful komposed art at the age of ca 7 or 9 years, because my sister had the two LPs, one it is still in my hands, the other one had been stolen.

    thank you for posting!!!!

  • 5 people need to understand the difference between wondering and dreaming, because the words have different meanings. Yes they did.

  • Syd Barrett sang on this song, but then he left to become the singer of the Bee Gees. Afterwards, sadly, Syd was died, and the Bee Gees became the Police. The Police then made the album "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as a homage to Syd, because, without him, they would have never written Stairway to Heaven.

    RIP Syd <3

  • @TheRedGibson22 You have no fucking idea what your talking about do you? You stupid fuck! WTF are you even talking about, what does Stairway to Heaven have to do with The Bee Gees, Syd Barret, Pink Floyd, and The Police, WTF! Your are dum kid.

  • @originalwolfboy Lol i was kidding you seriously believed me haha

  • @TheRedGibson22 um...you need to lay off the dope...history proves you totally wrong as far as your musical claims...The Gibb brothers were The Bee Gees and never became The Police which was fronted by Sting and "smells like teen spirit" was performed by Nirvana...dude, get a grip

  • @soberscot69 i didn't see the other post...i fell for it too...lol

  • SSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNEEEEEES!

  • Wow, Blue Oyster Cult totally stole the melody at the beginning for their tune "Fireworks."

  • @fallspeed shut up ....

  • @exodo111 What's your problem, amigo?

  • @fallspeed nothing, just was being an idiot, sorry ;)

have a nice day, good sir

    also

    I love Blue Oyster Cult O: O: O:

  • @exodo111 I love BOC too, have for over 30 years. But bands do "borrow" from each other.

  • Syd bypassed puberty and then looped back to pre-pubescence in one mystical swoop. It's the only explanation for the high voices and childlike fairytale on display here. Majestic it is :) God Bless Syd and Rick, the duo conducting the great gig in the sky :) You are giving us an incentive to get to heaven quicker just to be with you :)

  • I think Pink Floyd created the transition to the 70's 80s because this sounds like the beatles.

  • im gettin high just listening

  • Piper at the gates of dawn may very well be better than Dark Side of the Moon... syd barrett fucking rocks!!!

  • @423likeajewel Nah too many silly and or pointless song mixd in with genius

    E.G: The Gnome

Imagine if syd had made it too the 90's O.O

  • @silentwulfsfan

Syd did make it to the 90's. He saw the millennium.

  • @423likeajewel yes and i think its certain to say that without Piper there couldnt be Dark Side.

  • @423likeajewel Yeah, Darkside isn't Pink Floyd's best album at all. It's excellent, but not their best. this is certainly an extremely underrated album, though.

  • Does anyone know the background to this song?

  • @MIKECNW album cover of the piper at the gates of dawn

  • @11GQ Duh!

I asked about the song, not about the LP cover.

  • Awesome song, great and simple lyrics

  • I don't think PatGofD owns Sgt. Pepper, you can not compare them.

  • @FunkySkunk90 exactly, The Piper is Better, The Beatles was great, but Pink Floyd is out of this world...

  • I think the 60's PF is better than the 70's PF.

  • @MIKECNW you don't just "think", it IS better. Too bad most people can't see that. =\

  • @MIKECNW not only 60's all the pre-dark side is the best!

  • @MIKECNW I don't think any PF is better than any other. Unless you consider A Momentary Lapse Of Reason, or the Division Bell (those albums suck)

but any and all pink floyd is the best.

  • @MIKECNW but....meddle is in the 70s!

  • @MIKECNW Yes, I feel the same way. The 1970s Floyd bores the hell out of me. Another Brick In The Wall is good.

  • For those of you familiar with a certain chocolate bar - Syd used to call this "Rick's Frys Turkish Delight riff"!

  • i love this song and this disc... syd was a amazing genius !!!!!!!

  • I love the Beatles, but it's not even close when it comes to which is better, this or Sgt. Pepper. Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the greatest psychedelic album of all time and that doesn't mean that you need to be high to get it...this album is trippier than drugs.

  • don't cross the streams! ... it would be bad ...

  • It's so amazing

  • i think this song is ok

i like gilmour more than barret

  • @nonesta13 what the?

    are you serious

  • @EveningNeverCame yeah i think gilmour was more musically talented...but thats just my opinion

  • @nonesta13 sorry i clicked (Y) instead of reply. okay, fair enough, you are entitled to your opinion :)

  • Sad to say but it's true. Although great and the best selling and most popular, the beatles were of course, Pink Floyd were much better, more depth to their lyrics. While Beatles were one of the mainstream boy bands of the days. =).

  • roger waters davvid gilmore sy barrett rick wright

  • que tema mas maravilloso, syd barret puro, y ese toque arabe celestial

    pink floyd que belleza

  • i always have music orgasm, from 0:49 to 0:52 when there's "Shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaynz" - it's awesome :P

  • @CoolestOstrich music orgasms are the best i love his backing guitar in this one its genius

  • Comment removed

  • Can someone please for fuk sake build a time machine so i can rewind myself to the year 1967.

  • @Zodist i think this pretty much accomplishes this

  • @fezwoz Yes it does.Shit i didn't know i got 45 thumps up.So has anyone bulid a time machine yet?Cheers

  • i wonder how PF would be if syd didnt go that way.well the best thing would be if they were two different bands.one with gilmour and one with barrett

  • @d1versify what if when Barrett left he met Jim Morrison and joined the doors omg!! clash of the titans?

  • @jembrannan haha yeah

  • @jembrannan yes it's true, they also recorded a album toghether, there was also scottie more, the guitarist of elvis presley. It's unreleased :///

  • i trip every time with this song

  • did you know that candy and sodas and sundaes and ice cream of all kinds have more vitamins and calories than any food in the world? That fudge should be made every day to sustain life? Among the more widely known compositions produced during the television age is that of a schoolboy who was told to write a report on the church service he attended. He wrote:

I liked the music okay but the commercial was too long.

  • @czech698 u freakin encouraging the fat freakin world u fat punk get up off the chair and do sumthin..ud get laid more if u werent so freakin fat

  • holy

  • R.I.P Syd...

  • @letszap And R.I.P. Richard Wright...

  • Noone can like this and the later Pink Floyd. Luckily I'm into Pink Floyd, not Teletubbies.

  • @dragmio why not mate?

  • @d1versify I've grown up, I suppose. :)

  • hehe look at those clothes!!! lol

  • syd barrett was the heart and soul of pink floyd. despite not being a part of dark side and wish you were here he inspired both albums. truly a genius. everytime i listen to early floyd im always in awe of barrett

  • This album is really good and This is only Pink Floyd album I own!!!

  • it's 3/4. with 84bpm

    good music!

  • what's the time signature change at the end? i think its 2/4 to 3/4 but i dont have a good ear for this type of thing.

  • I love rick wright's (rip)voice on the first & second verses!!!!oh & syd's voice on the third of course!!! a very simple song!great songwriting todays muso's should learn from this stuff!!!!

  • gosh! cant ppl just stop bashing on eachother and just mellow out!? I mean come on! No music is better or worse its a matter of oppinion and all oppinions should be respected! Music rules! :)

  • @billiejeangirl123 that aint true some music is shit (modern) but between pink floyd and beatles its a matter of opinion, personally pink floyd is better.

  • @123bbwlover okey haha peace :)

  • @billiejeangirl123 It's not just opinion, that's about the worst thing you can say in such a discussion. Some music is clearly better than other music, and though it technically is opinion, opinions should be discussed and constantly rethought. That being said, a lot of music is just fucking great and can't be precisely ranked, but it's not merely a matter of opinion.

  • @milano0221 okay Im really just answering to be polite lol cos u kinda lost me there xD Ill just say this: no music can ever come close to the music that was made in the 50s - 70s those were the gold years for me atleast now this was my last comment haha peace :)

  • @billiejeangirl123 That is so not true, in that case put your hand over your heart and tell me that Lady GaGa is better than Pink Floyd, do it., with all honesty. =(

  • @DanielJoseDiego I don't think she's better than Pink Floyd but other people might think so. And that's fine as long as people don't go around bashing on other music that some might enjoy :) just my oppinion anyways, hehe. Wouldn't it be boring if everyone liked the same bands though? :)

  • @billiejeangirl123 No! It would be awesome if no other band existed, and it was just PInk Floyd always. They should be immortal.

Oooooooohhhh Moooother, tell me moooorreee... ♪

  • @DanielJoseDiego lol Pink Floyd is an amazing band but I dont think I could live with everyone listening to one band all the time ^_^ no matter how great they are :O

  • @DanielJoseDiego If such were true, could you really understand the beauty of Floyd, or would it just be the norm.

  • @shelovesrockandroll Yes! =P. Like I said before, when you compare everything else to Pink Floyd, it pretty much becomes meaningless. I know what you mean though, I'm just exaggerating. You know that.

  • @k2purp

    Actually, no.

  • showerd silver on the people

  • Yeah I would defiantly say that this album is better than Rubber Soul. This album was the most ground-breaking in all of the sixties, besides some of Zappa's stuff.

  • Easily Pink Floyd's best song

  • Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is better than any Beatles album...

  • not in my opinion, this is one of the best floyd songs ever.

  • ...much better than the beatles.

  • Dream on, kid.

  • i wish i could give you a thousand thumbs up

  • i think that all the beatles albums are great, but you shouldn't compare such great bands together because neither of them are better than the other they both are good and talented, plus this is my favorate pink floyd. :D

  • Syd Barrett was very influenced the Beatles Revolver but the bands had a different psychedelic sound. The Beatles were putting loops, sitars and backward music up front. You know not common instruments in rock music at the time and putting guitars and in the background. Some songs like "Only A Northern Song" don't even had a guitar.

This is my favorite early Pink Floyd song. I which the song was a little longer. It's still a sound only Floyd could create.

  • @PinkFloydAreGods it is :)

  • @PinkFloydAreGods WHATTTTTT?????????????????????

GO LISTEN TO RUBBER SOUL OR MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR

  • my favourite pink floyd album. Barretts lyrics are just...spectacular

  • My fave Floyd song!

  • me too....

  • Piper at the Gates owns Sgt Pepper
