Irish and Indian Classical Voice; Hindustani or Carnatic have everything in common. The only thing that is different (other than the accompaniment) is Irish music isn't improvised these days as often. Indian is all about the improvisation. The scales/ ragas/ modes can be compared easily. At least , my Indian Marayati teacher from Pune, who is an expert on Hindustani Music tells me so. I trained extensively in Western Classical, Jazz and born in Nova Scotia singing in Gaelic. Just saying.
I would disagree about the similarity of indian and irish music.....irish has a distinct ornamentation....a play with the notes that is unlike indian singing. (I've lived in India and I am familiar with both Hindustani and Carnatic music). I have been singing both Irish and Indian music for about 30 years now and never have found a single similarity....neither in tunes, arrangement of notes (ragas) or even singing style. Indian singing is entirely different...
@lynnjimarie well both are modern interpritations so its irrelevent, and its related to arabic and hebrew more, gaelic singing and arabic dua singing are very simular
It almost sounds like an American Folk Song called "O Death".

A cappella na Gaeilge. Beautiful as it is soothing to my Celtic soul.

The only thing wrong with this video is that it doesn't show Mairéad enough.
