  • so why was it called elephant?

  • Honestly, I much prefer the earlier videos (1-6) because there was tension, build-up as we followed an assortment of all types, took in the entire school layout and overlapping events. Unfortunately the ending fell short for me. I'm glad I saw this but Elias (the photographer) and John (blonde with the drunk father) may have been better suited as our main protagonists. In fact I thought they were in the beginning. Maybe that was Van Sant's little trick on Elephant's viewers. It can be anyone...

  • Is this supposed to be based on the columbine shooting because both of the shooters commit suicide -.-

  • "I shot the principal and some other people and" BAM

I laughed so hard, I'm probably going to hell xD

  • This isn't based on Columbine, just parts.

  • @mainlyy What do you mean just parts? They've even got it down to the style of the high school.

  • Shoot them skanks

  • poor benny... you almost walked long enough for us to care about you

  • @SuperDawgE You pulled the words right out of my head

  • This is so inaccurate I do not even know where to begin criticizing this...

  • Wow. That was...really interesting. I guess it's gotta be your kind of film...

  • This movie sucked. Go watch Zero Day.

  • poor benny :(

  • This movie is just plain horrible and ridiculous.

  • @pproduction123

i couldnt agree more...cant believe it won the golden palm at cannes festival.....

  • @pproduction123 go watch some crappy generic action movie, the tracking shots in this film are actually genius!

  • @comfyman No they are actually pretentious and overdrawn.

  • So much walking, who does he think he is michael myers or summin?

  • this movie sucked . walking and walking. horrible ending >.<.bang your dead is 10x better

  • @xpalacioss It's not supopsed to be a stimulating and entertaining action movie, its a depiction of how within a short period of time many people can be affected and a represenation of the troubles facing youth today.

  • can someone tell me why he shot his friend??????

  • Yawn

  • alex is really cute :)

  • I think they could had done a lot better I mean I wat

  • I got some problems with this movie first off take out the DAMN LONG ASS AWKWARD WALKING SCENES!!! so that takes an hour away.... bad acting, really random gay shower scene and you cant buy gun off the internet like they did. other wise it would be good

  • WACKKKK!

  • Y the fuck did they make out in a shower?? That ruined it for me..

  • WORST PIECE OF SHIT EVER

  • esete wey siente q es resident evil

  • This movie was truly bad.

  • Honestly, how da fuck did this win at Cannes? Those elite fucks are suckers for anything tragic, regardless of shitty direction, acting, and cinematography.

  • This movie lacks music, but then there's that really creepy ass shit playing when Alex runs around the building. Terrible mistake to watch this on my iPhone in a new jersey suburb on a Monday night at 1:22 in the morning

  • mr.owl how many shots does it take to take down the principal?

lets find out 1 "bam" 2 "bam" 3 "bam"

    3 shots

  • Why is this movie called "Elephant" ?

  • @thecomputerzombies99 it's supposed to be a reference to some chinese proverb

  • @thecomputerzombies99 because of an English idiom "there is an elephant in the room" to talk about a big problem that is being avoided intentionally.

  • Okay, to explain: the kid actors in the movie are purposefully "non-professional". They chose their own clothing and kept their original names for the characters they play. It was a directing choice for such inexperienced actors to be in a movie like this, so naturally the acting's gonna suck for Hollywood standards. But this isn't a Hollywood movie. It's meant to capture high school life as realistically as possible, to prepare for the very real tragedy of a high school shooting.

  • it is not great acting and you can tell that some of the victims are composites of the original columbine victims.

  • Man, if I was hired to help out with this movie, I wouldn't even go. It's too cheap and horrible acting. Call me up when Spielberg, Scorcese, or Eastwood are directing.

  • the acting is so bad i'm angry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @pinkthunderwonder The wtf was my general reaction to the ending, mainly him shooting his best friend out of nowhere. I liked the entire movie but like you, was confused. Hence, "WHAT. THE. FUCK."

  • why he killed his friend!? douche

  • that brunette killer is hott

  • w8 so he shot the other gunman? cuz at first i thought it was like a cop or something

  • WHAT. THE. FUCK.

  • @rachrach35 ... you have problems if you can't take a simple movie like this.

  • check it out

    youtube.com /watch? v= PC3uV njswzI

  • WTH? bad acting, to much walking, Zero hour Columbine was better...

  • So Alex goes from being the guy being bullied in this movie to being the bully in Drillbit Taylor...ironic.

  • Did he just shoot his brother!?

also that was a Horrible ending It Should have been longer -_-"

  • 'zero day' is way better

  • the ending to this movie fucking sucks balls!!!

  • And I thought to myself, what the fuck.

  • lol i shot 4 prinsible 4nd some other people B4NG

  • The kid that killed the nigger looks like Eminem

  • Thats such a horrible movie in every way, 1/10 just cause he ending was half decent, all the movie is is following people and backs of people. Didn't even show why other than stuff thrown at alex, why he did it. And if they were basing this on columbine they failed big time.

  • im sure they had their good reasons for it, but having them kill themselves at the end would have been a better ending and would have had more emotion. but overall i think this is a really good movie. the actors they chose werent THE best at acting, but for me it added to the realty of it. very good movie

  • not bad, preferred zero day though

  • wtf kind of ending was that?

  • Now every time I think of eniee meniee minee mo I think of people dying

  • pretty good movie. the ending blew though... there really was no ending i guess.

  • @lumpymoose200 I meant to say that it IS loosely based. It's not supposed to be accurate or anything like that. For legal reasons and personal reasons,a "real" movie based on Colombine wouldn't be made.

  • @lumpymoose200 The movie isn't a movie loosely inspired by Columbine

  • WTF? In real life they killed themselves in the library, and they started at the west entrance out front? Good movie, captures the emotion of these kids, but terribley inacurate.

  • Why did Alex shoot Eric???

  • i loved how he shot his friend o well not like they r gonna b around all alex has 2 to is walk away

  • I am so confused with this movie? Like why did he shoot his lover? Why didn't police come? Why did the people in the background are like "Oh there is a serial killer right behind me I should take my sweet ass time going to the exit to save my life." Why didn't anyone see the big ass bags and in milatary clothes? Why did that nigger walking toward the gunshots? "Oh I am going to be a hero!" Lastley why didn't any of the victems rush the gun men and beat the shit out of them? Horrible movie...

  • @SteamMonkey115

Because, this isn't a game you idiot. Smart people wouldn't just bum rush two guys that are armed to the teeth. Once I hear gun shots being fired, I turn the other way and RUN. Unless I have a gun, than I'll stay and fight.

  • @ThePlacardman No, You must have mis-understood my comment. Like at the end if someone is pointing a gun to your face and is about to kill you what do you do? Die like a dumbass, or Die trying to live? I would rush him and rip his eyes from his face if I was about to die. At least I wouldn't die without a fight.

  • i thought it was an ok movie but the ending fuckin sucked.....

  • look closely at 1:13/1:14 bottom right corner. I saw something move.

  • Am i the only one who thinks the acting is terrible?

  • @songbirdsxxz That's because there's so much walking going on, nobody really pays attention to the acting.

  • @songbirdsxxz Gus van Sant usually has a thing for newcomers

  • @songbirdsxxz All the people in the film aren't actors, they're real high school students for the most part.

  • The only reason for that would be that the director, Gus Van Sant didn't get actors to play these roles, but simply ordinary school kids. There was no script, no plan. They knew what it was leading up to, that was all - much else was improvised. And that's the beauty of the film. So, I think the "acting" isn't really acting at all.

  • @songbirdsxxz zero day shit ALLL over this

  • the idea was goood. the end disapoiting.

    Zero day aloot better

  • Did anyone else expect the black guy to rise up behind him after being shot?

  • @donovan3955 Like I said, Benny the black dude tried to be a hero but failed miserably

  • Wow!!!!! A disappointing and horrible movie!!!!!!!

  • umm.......hmmm......i cant find words to describe this shit .-."a

  • This is the worst fucking movie I have ever seen in my life.

  • this is very disappointing.....was nothing like the real columbine shooting. dylan and eric both commited suicide in the library...

  • this ended up being a lot worse than i thought. i'm pretty disappointed.

  • rampage is better than elephant

  • i kinda really like the ending scene in the movie. even though it's cruel mocking

  • Sucked balls(shower scene) zero day is better

  • shit movie

  • he didnt shoot his friend in real life

  • odd movie but i kinda liked it?

  • This movie...an intresting and well thought out idea, it just could've been done better.

  • I thought the most interesting thing about this movie was the fact that no one in the movie had prior acting experience, almost all of them even used their real names. The way the camera followed everyone around during the same school day and you saw how their lives crossed paths at different points. Plus the flat out truth of the movie is scary. People really are that blind in life

  • I wanted Benny to get shot right when I saw his ass walking around like he owned the building. Dumb ass should have gotten out when he could have.

  • this movie sucks ass lols ;.

  • Ok? this shit fuckin sucks black ass

  • If you count it out in your head, he is pointing at the girl in the end

  • I would have preferred a 2 hour movie with more character development and less long-winded pointless shots of people walking through hallways

  • People should stop bitching. It's a good movie.

  • The end of this movie scares the shit out of me.

  • He even passes by dead bodies in the hallway. Does that light a fire under his butt?!? Nope. He still can't put two and two together and see any danger. Is he planning to do something heroice (fight rather than flight)? Nyet. He makes himself a sitting duck approaching the shooter, with no protection. Surprise! He gets killed. As silly as the father and son who give up trying to warn the school and stupidly stare at the school, bonding. Feel sorry for an actor with such a stupid role.

  • Hard to think of a more ridiculous story line that what the script has the Black athlete doing as a school massacre going on all around him. Screaming and gun shots loud enough for the entire study body to empty the halls. What does he do. Wonder aimlessly as if he cannot process that something bad is happening. He has every chance in the world to escape, especially when he helps the girl out the window. What does he do then? He returns to aimlessly wander, almost begging to be shot. He

  • that was a weird ending...

  • There's another film that was inspired by Columbine called 'Heart Of America'. It's amazing.

Youtube search: Heart Of America - Part 1. It's an amazing film

  • This movie reminds me of the movie 2:37. Which you can also watch on youtube. This is a pretty damn good movie though.

  • @punkidntno Dont you dare compare movies 2:37 was a masterpiece this was a massive-piece... of shit

  • Wtf the black guy is supposed to have plus 90 to bullet resistance!!

  • @Travisthetoaster lmfao! not everyones 50 cent

  • What the fuck that's how it ends? Zero Day is much better!

  • Lol when he shot his partner

  • SUPRISE!!!! there was a black guy in the film, but he died

  • @CriTicOfsOrts there was one black guy who died in the actual killing at the school..his name was iysaha..

  • Wow.. I feel sick after watching this. So horrible.

  • @pollyallover Whine-1-1 Somebody call the Waaahmbulance!

  • with the exception of coyote7272 and the city monster among others, most of you guys are ignorant a-holes who treat everything as a joke even something as tragic as a school shooting. would you laugh looking through the barrel of the gun?

  • @thalaxia

Pain, sadness, abuse can make a person like this.

  • Lol he killed his friend who helped him with the massacre - FAYUL

  • gringos de mierda

  • @maximarisio shut up wetback

  • : / really bad movie i think its in my top 10 crappy movies! i timed it around 50 mins were walking 20 mins talk 20 mins shoot WTF!

  • @thalaxia :p nothing against you just saying why i said that. hope we're cool :)

  • @thalaxia nope not spoiled and i know what it's like to have a death in the family. oh and it's a movie buddy the characters aren't real and i can distinguish reality from fantasy. I was picked on douche bags like this back when i was in grade school and a little bit of high school. This one ashole who was on the football team thought he was hot shit and always picked on me. So think before you reply to a comment that's three weeks old ; -)

  • @thalaxia let me guess you are a jock or a preppy girl friend of one :p

  • ummmmmmmmmmm he just shot him that was unexpected

  • One of the best movies I've ever seen. Thanks for putting it up. :)

  • i will never ever be able to play or hear fur elise without having this shaking feeling in my chest

  • It was unique though, I've never seen a similar movie like this, with the stalker-cam following around, shadowing varieties of people for an everyday high school life, while it did portray a good story, through means of bringing the viewer in depth to ordinary lives and comparing them to the hidden horrors that awaited these students, and why they couldn't react to the "elephant" in the room when the two kids arrived with their plans. I do agree that all that, could have been better portrayed.

  • @coyote7272 2:37 is movie very similar to this. its an australian film.

  • @coyote7272 there is a similar film called "the life before her eyes" which is also good like this movie.

    more emotional i think.

  • This movie was so poorly made. Like other people have commented the concept was good but I probably could have made a better movie back when I was in high school. There are soooo many things I could point out in this film that are just straight up stupid but I'm sure plenty of viewers have already pointed most of them out.

  • How has no one pulled the fire alarm by this point?

  • Scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 5.The last part is laughable. No high school food service program has hanging sides of beef. If it wasn't for government meat, they'd have little or none. I expected more out of Gus Van Sant. Big disappointment. That this movie received an award at Cannes is evidence that alot of "film experts" have a hard time getting their heads out of their collective asses.

  • why did alex kill eric at the end? i never understood that bit. was it because of the shower scene he hated him for it?

  • @snapple6661 I think it was just him knowing they were going to have to kill themselves anyway

  • I can understand why people don't like the movie, but I think its everyday-ness and all the walking, people doing normal things...brings out the cruelty a lot better. By highlighting the unspectacular and innocent actions on the one side, the massacre on the other becomes even more pointless. I love this movie, it's very smart.

  • i hope he killed that jock douche and his skank girl friend >:D

  • @199291931 fuck yeah lol

  • @199291931

but yea i mean i feel that we can label, which this movie shows: jock, popular kids, loser kid, nerdy girl..but in the end we're all just humans searching for joy in a world that is full of insecurity and labels. Even the kid who kills all those students was motivated out of sadness, despair. it's like there's no such thing as pure evilness. just a mess of the mind and heart, with the tangled rope of popular culture and the need to be loved

  • no emergency sprinkler system?

  • i dont really like the ending.... it leaves me in suspense...

  • Did anyone bother to call the police?

  • @llaura15 omg i was just thinking about that, and they hardly screem either its like oh then lol

  • i hate when people who dont get it, post comments about it. if you dont understand the quality and intensity and meaning behind the film, dont fucking talk about it.

  • rubbish

  • Although not the best movie ever made, I must say the scenes where you can see a previous scene in the background of the current one are a fantastic idea. Really gives the film a ominous tone and creates tension, because you know whats about to take place.

  • Stupid ending.

  • ... this would have been better as a book, not a visual medium. But, as a book the writer would have been forced to really emphasize the characters and not just brush over them nonchalantly with day-to-day events that do not have any real bearing on WHO those characters are as people. I'd recommend Robert McKee's STORY as a primer.

  • @bartelby123 I couldn't disagree more. I'm not looking at this movie expecting to see big hollywood-style explosions and crazy effects. I'm looking at character development in a "character-driven" story. None of these characters change in any way. The plot is literally a sequence of events with no emotional grab to the main character (except for the library chick). Please re-read my other posts as you clearly misunderstood me. Looking at this as a "commercial" piece that HBO invested in,

  • terrible movie. thought itd get better as it went along.. smh

  • But, for a character -driven story, none of the characters experience any true development. Also, the writer missed many opportunities to maximize on emotionally connecting the characters to the audience. Poorly done.

  • @J9Naimoli I guess what you say is true if you look at it on a very superficial level. True, It's not spoon-fed to the audience and it's certainly not executed (no pun) in a traditional, dramatic, in-your-face fashion that audiences have come to expect from their films...but this film definitely succeeds in presenting this subject matter and how peoples lives are affected by it in a very subtle manner that definitely resonates for those that are in tune with what the director is communicating.

  • This was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The subject matter is the ONLY thing that held my attention to the end - and just barely. The acting is poor at best, the "quiet" scenes are far too long, and the writing is just bad. There was no actual character arc. The characters did not change in any way. Its like I was watching a really bad series of events that just barely held together with minute amounts of substance. The character set-up was OK. But, for a character-driv

  • who got the rights to this movie?! low ass budget, bad actors

  • Wow. I really didn't like this movie. 2:37 was really good.

  • supergay movie

  • what the fuck type of ending was that!?!?! i'm still in suspense fuckers, what the hell happened!!?!?!

  • Why is this called Elephant?

  • so a sniper killed his friend?

  • @JacobAllin No, If he did, you would not hear a gunshot.

  • @th3planetsghost so his friend killed him? sorry i only watched it once .

  • That shot came from the back.. horrible effects lol.. Still love Gus Van Sant though..

  • The acting in this is so laughable.. what a shitty movie.

  • even though the shootout's disturbing, i take alex (the kid in black) a little less seriously. he walks around with the same face he has the whole movie. when i heard this film was about a school shooting, i expected the killers to be running around with dark and furious faces.

  • if you noticed he fell before he was shot

  • insane? no these kids are fucking heros. erik dylan u guys ae my fucking brothers in arms and my heros

  • why the fuck he shot his friend for nigga ill shoot you

  • Maybe this movie was inspired by the Columbine massacre but not based on it....

  • @hsubxsarah everything is exactly the same, come on. Well, the personalities are different, but everything else is exactly the same or at least a very well done copy of the actual shooting.

  • @aapinator Not exactly... like the first people that were killed weren't in the school, they were outside, and the two boys both shot them selves in the library, and the principal didn't die, although there are lots of similarities there are alot of differences that is why i think this movie was only inspired by it...
