  • Tarzan and the great river was great! Brought me back in time! Keep posting videos like that. We NEED more of them...

  • This lion looks like a lioness...

  • I was a kid when I watched this movie on TV and found it hilarious when T. , to quench Jane's thrist just put his hand on a high grass bush, grabbed a "jaca" (big tropical fruit, found on trees 20 to 50 feet hight, very common in Rio de Janeiro, brought from India by its former portuguese settlers; very edible, delicious, but with a thick pulp and BIG seeds [2x1 ", average!]), cut it in half, and give it to J. telling her :Drink It ! Otherwise a very entertaining movie !

  • @fyunchclick There was no Jane in this film, the female lead was a doctor in the story.

  • @htrrz thanks! as I said I was a kid, then after forty years or so things get a bit fuzzy ! But we found it funny anyway, the Mountain in the background is still there, better known as "Pedra da Gávea" (stone of the "crow's nest"[ the lookout place on a sailing ship]), some 3 thousand miles from the Amazon...

  • @fyunchclick Do you know where the movie was filmed? Tarzan and the Jungle Boy seemed to shot at the same location? The first 8 shows of the TV series were shot in the same area also, then moved to Mexico due to weather.

  • "daddy........the top came off"

    "nooooooo shit."

  • i am not for certain of why smith turned the role down. i don't think he wanted to be typecast...but i am uncertain. i have read, but just can't seem to recall right now. i have read that at one point the producers wanted lancaster, but burt was not interested. perhaps lancaster (who was always aware he wasn't as well groomed/cultured as many in hollywood) did not want to be associated with the part thinking it would reinforce what he believed others thought of him.

  • @johnrunion interesting speculation bout william smith.................burt lancaster of course did not have the musculature of a mike henry or a william smith and I am sure he DID want to be taken seriously as an actor and probably thought tarzan would typecast him irreparably for other roles he wanted badly

  • @ronwelker8 yes, i would say that is correct as to why lancaster turned down the role.

  • @johnrunion t hanks very much indeed. I know i never have thought of burt lancaster as a muscleman but he of course is in his bathing suit for the entire existentialist movie THE SWIMMER where he and a woman go from swimming pool to swimming pool in california somewhere. Also, he is featured in the book AMERICAN HUNKS; THE MUSCULAR MALE BODY IN POPULAR CULTURE 1860-1970.

  • @johnrunion In the book Tarzan of the Movies reference is made to producer Sy Weintraub was "looking for a young Burt Lancaster for the role", not Lancaster, Lancaster a former Trapeze artist sprung into stardom qucikly and by 1960 had won a academy award. IT was the type well spoken, tall, handsome, muscular, see the films like His Majesty O" Keefe, Jim Thorpe, Trapeze and see a very muscular Lancaster.

  • @johnrunion In a magazine article I read some years ago, William Smith stated he turned down the role due to leg development was not that good in his own idea, other words his upper body over shadowed his lower he thought, but in ealry Daniel Boone shows Smith played indians on two shows and his leg development looked fine, but in his own words it was his legs, and there was no time to build them up, Ron Ely who was to play a villian on the TV show was moved into the lead.

  • @htrrz interesting. thanks. i agree william smith was always in shape it seemed. thanks again. i greatly appreciate it.

  • I saw "Tarzan And The Great River" as part of a family matinee at the local cinema back in the early 1970's and 1980's when these Tarzan films were re-released theatrically to bring in the kids for their Saturday and Sunday matinees. These Mike Henry were profitable too when they were shown on television too.

  • Mike Henry was a 6'3" former football player. He had a well sculpted body. probably one of the best Tarzan physiques ever

  • And featuring a LADY doctor!

  • when i was a kid mike henry WAS tarzan! ron ely was a big disappointment on tv!

  • @jhrunion does anyone have any idea why television bigwigs would be crazy enough to take Ron Ely over Mike Henry for the television job? I read that there was some work problems with Cheetah biting Mike Henry on the set of a movie

  • yes, that is the reason that i heard henry did not make the transition to tv. cheetah either bit or scratched henry and the injury resulted in many stitches. henry as a result sued the producers. in retaliation they/the producers refused to hire him for the series. oddly the late, great manuel padilla, junior appeared in both a film with henry and the series with ely.

  • @johnrunion thanks very much for confirming my suspicions.................what a nightmare for the viewer WHEN MIKE HENRY WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST THEY COULD FIND..........a million times better than their ron ely and wolf larson did not make a huge impact later on although i read that he was a "bulked up" bodybuilder and had to lose a lot of weight for the television role

  • you are very welcome. henry had a great way of speaking/acting with children + could handle the action sequences. i have heard that william smith turned down the role of tarzan previous to henry's acceptance of it. burt lancaster was a wish that never came true. when they hired henry they wanted a 'young lancaster who could also look good in a suit.'

  • @johnrunion william smith was equally handsome as mike henry but perhaps he had heard how physically demanding it was to do Tarzan films and was happy to do less demanding but still hot action movie work like Rich Man Poor Man and Pirahna. It was incredible to see Mike Henry running down a field............certainly a football player par excellence and he had the super virile square jaw for the acting world

  • @ronwelker. i am sorry. i did not mean to give you a thumbs down on your previous statement. i attempted to give you a thumbs up, but my computer suddenly started jerking and i accidentally clicked the wrong thumb. i will attempt to correct the situation later. youtube will not let me currently stating 'you have already voted on this comment.' again, sorry.

  • @johnrunion as we say in French pas de probleme mon vieux!

  • @ronwelker8 :)
