i have the daiwa saltist and that is one of my favorite reels, the saragosa from shimano costs 100 bucks more and only has 11 pounds more drag and a slower gear ratio, the top reel from daiwa is the daiwa saltist, it has 11 pounds heavier drag than shimano, and is fully sealed which means it beats out the stella any day

i fought  a 25lb catfish with a 1500 size diawa regal with 6lb braid the reel was $50 and it took and hour and a half so im kinda a diawa fan now but i have cought massive sharks with a 5000 size stella their both awseome brands!!

I have a Diawa Tiera 300, and a Penn Slammer 360 that I use most of the time. I have just sprayed off the 2 reels the past 3 times that my buddy and I have wade fished, and the Diawa is tight as hell. The Penn Slammer still works like I just lubed it, and I didn't. It is exactly like I was told when I bought these reels; the Diawa is smoother out of the box, but the Penn is more reliable, sturdy and is still pretty smooth. To be honest I like the drag much better on the Slammer.

@seanyglass I think the shimanos and diawas are better for bass, or freshwater with the exception of their conventional reels or the Diawa's Saltiga (which is more of a offshore spiiner, or surf reel). Other than that, the Slammer is just a better salwater light tackle spinner... less maintenance, less hassle, good drag. They last a long time with just spraying it off after each use and lubing it once every 3 or so trips. Best drag I ever had was my Fin Nor Megalite 3000; music to my ears.
