It looks like her fertility doctor knew she had 6 kids at home before treating her. He's in a better economic situation to fund the octuplets. I know 2 physicians with 11 kids, and 3 doctors with 4 kids. They can afford it & it's great they can do that. It's a free world. But when you are single, unemployed, living with parents, in debt, handicapped, depressed, as in the octuplet's mother's case, it's very unfair & unreasonable to expect more and more taxpayer money

The odds of having eight babies or an unusual amount of babies for that matter is slim to none. So, in all likelihood, this was a natural cause.

There is the duty of care the mother owes to the unborn child. If the child is born with a defect, then it no longer become a matter of 'her own business', but rather an ethical catastrophe. She's not a good mother by putting the health of her children at risk by virtue of deliberately choosing to have 8 at once. She says she was aware of the risks but chose to do it anyway and declined to reduce the number. The kids may not make it thru the first year of life and could have health problems, not to mention the financial difficulty of supporting them and having time for all of them as a single mother.

Anyone is entitled to have as many babies as they would like. The problem, as the doctor outlined in this video, is the inherent dangers involved in impregnating yourself in this unorthodox manner. The odds of birth defects dramatically increases. It's unfair for the mother, and it's certainly unfair for the children. In a nutshell, it's an unwise decision to make.

I wasn't referring to this case specifically, but in general. He did mention, if you listened, an increase in risk with multiple gestation induced by fertility drugs. The odds of having eight babies or an unusual amount of babies for that matter is slim to none. So, in all likelihood, this was a natural cause.

And yes,multiples are allways an possibility when using fertility drugs, but that is the risk.
I have used them too, but with only one as a result, so it is not always the case.
What bothers me, is other people judging without knowing the facts.

Well, it certainly is the mother's own business as to how she lives her life, but it does not bar the legitimate speculation about the societal risks of such drug abuse (i.e. the negative judgment of the drug used). There is the duty of care the mother owes to the unborn child. If the child is born with a defect, then it no longer become a matter of 'her own business', but rather an ethical catastrophe. I ask, is it fair for the child to have to suffer because of the mother's irrationality?
