  • This is one of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen. Honestly, it did not bore me one bit the first time I watched it.

  • What I hate is that I have friends that do not value these kind of movies and never seem to understand them and prefer to watch junk that they are never willing to understand and that they simply watch because it is popular and do not consider anything that was made before the year 2000 as watchable. In the end I reallize that it doesn't matter really. These people will be forgotten like they have been willing to forget these movies.

  • I have to admit, it took me awhile to like this movie. I hated it until it got to the jupiter mission part, it was just boring, and I thought it was completely pointless to show shot after shot of space stations. But the last half completely blew me away, and so I watched the entire thing over, and it's become my favorite movie

  • Awesome movie.

  • (2/2) ...during the "Open the pod bay doors, HAL" scene. And the pacing is a bit lengthy but I wouldn't use that to discredit it at all. If it kept cutting to different shots or moved by faster than you wouldn't be absorbed, almost hypnotized by it (great example --> youtube.com/watch?v=oU4Rk0NATNs) which is true for many Kubrick films. As for the baby, that was Bowman's evolution to a higher form. It is open for interpretation, but I think that makes it more interesting, you get to think!!

  • I wouldn't say this film has a "plot". It is mostly drawn out hallway and space shots. The monolith is a interesting concept though ambiguous, but that is about it. Take for example the fetus floating in space scene. That is just utterly ridiculous, and if you need to apply layers of metaphor to make it into something grand, you could make any movie sound good.

  • @robotpanda77 Just go watch Avatar.

  • @FORD5000solo2001 If you think it is a good film please explain why and I will consider your points. I backed my view point up with real examples.

  • @robotpanda77 (1/2) Well i'd hate to say you just don't "Get it", but i've dealt with a lot of people who saw this movie and just dismiss it as boring shit (maybe i'm just a bit jaded :P) so i'll give you the benefit of the doubt here. I'll admit it's not a conventional movie but strip away all the interpretations, symbolism and metaphors, etc. and it's still a great movie. I don't think any other movie gives that feeling of loneliness and isolation in space quite like this does. Especially...

  • @robotpanda77 Read "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" by Frederik Nietzsche and then watch the movie again (actually, that´s also the main musical theme´name) . It´s not a must, but you´ll get the idea more clearly. This is a very deep film and we are only used to consider a plot when it has dialogues. This is a movie that speaks on images and that is pretty much abstract. Most of people just don´t get it. It happened to me the first time also. I didn´t know what did I saw but I was astonished.
