i managed to do it, and just to clarify for others:

1. backup in itunes

2. do this process to update ios/jailbreak/preserve baseband

3. once your phone resuscitates, on the phone itself you will be asked if you want to restore - make sure you click yes!

note: your cydia data and installous apps will be gone baby gone. so make a list of the stuff you had before updating.

Hey friend, thanks for this tutorial it seems like it really works and I've been understanding it so far and following along, it's just when I start up IBooty and select my device and hold the power & home button yada yada yada, it says starting up with a smily face counting down from 3 - 2- 1. But than, that's it. Itunes opens up asking me to restore but since you didn't do that I didn't touch it, just left it alone and my Ipod doesn't turn on, doesn't have the apple logo, nothing suggestions?
