Almost everything Amavia said about Dune was completely wrong...

She was describing Alia's tragedy as if she were just some weak little girl shoved into the limelight, with daddy issues. For chrissakes, compared even to the superhuman standards of Dune, she was superhuman. The shakespearean flaw which brought her downfall was her genetics, not a situational problem because of her meanny pants husband. Fuck.

The way actors justify their roles often sounds banal and even mediocre. But this interview is not the measure of her work - her portrayal of Alia is - and she was ok there. Famous example - Anouk Aimee in 8 1/2 portrayed a powerful character successfully - but the actress herself was not as substantial as a private person.

You have a point but the concept of past lives and the genetics behind it are difficult to bring to the screen without stopping the story to explain things. Although they took some creative license with the character, I still think Amavia's Alia portrayed that Shakespearean tragedy very well. She was doomed from her conception onward to her death.

Very much liked her ability to act out so many different emotions, because she is a very different character in the 2 parts of the miniseries (corresponding to the 2 books which it is based on) Just goes to show you dont need high profile Hollywood actors to get a amazing performance :)
