@axdout Except that Harley didn't design this motor, it was Porsche, and it was originally designed to go in to a touring bike, hence the reason for the increased hp and high revs. Harley just decided to put it in the V-Rod frame instead of a touring bike. With just a couple small mods, less than $500, mine is putting out 118hp to the rear tire. I am quite sure someone will come back with "That's pathetic, my crotch rocket puts out..."

I looked at a ton of bikes when I was looking at getting a new one. One thing is for sure, you have to get in to a "standard" to get the comfort and more performance than what the V-Rod offers, and that would be the V-Max. It's NOT a cruiser though, which is what the V-rod gives you more of a feel of, and still runs like a damn monster compared to any other bike in it's class.

@SPRS4 I don't know I had what was considered a standard, and it was a little GS500F....what comfort it felt like you were sitting on a brick after 300 miles. I ended up getting a Hayabusa...now that has comfort and performance. I'm not knocking a harley, honda or any other type of bike. People have different ideas of what a bike should be and thats why they make different types and styles.

@SpoolinVR If you can tolerate the uncomfortable posture, there's nothing a Harley can do that a sport bike can't do twice as well. On paper & on the street, sport bikes win all the time. Not just in aesthetic appeal (this goes beyond "I like it better" to legitimate psychological tests about what shapes humans prefer), but also in performance, efficiency, & price. That said, the V-Rod is a badass bike, but it won't beat an equally displaced sport bike for shit.
