  • Thoughts of the Driver of the #2 Toyota GT-One "Holy Shit", or "that's what you get for tailgating"

  • Mark Webber loves to fly :D xD

  • Houston, we have a problem

  • Mercedes used fly. Not very effective.

  • I believe I can fly...? o_o

  • Flying Cars

    Cheat code: Right, R2, Circle, R1, L2, Down, L1, R1

  • 外行っちゃった!ベンツが外行っちゃった!今のベンツでした?

  • someone said mercedes should build planes

  • I remember seeing that crash on live TV, I was 3 years old and I still remember that crash like it was yesterday.

  • Did he predict the future? He said something about Mark webber's crash and it being like that. Mark webber's crash was in Valencia 2010

  • @godzassassiinz

No, Mark Webber was one of Mercedes' drivers in this race, his car also went airborne during qualifying much like the one in this video.

  • @MrPlagues so Webber is used to "flying" with the cars he drives ???

  • downforce can have unpredictable changes which in this case caused uplift

  • 0:32

  • DRS enabled!!!

  • I actually saw this accident not on TV but live at the circuit

  • imagine you are the porsche driver behind and u see the car in front of you take off like that :D

  • This is why Mercedes-Benz quit... This is the second time this has happened...

  • @fastmannnnn the third!....Mercedes had three blowovers....one in qualifying....one in the morning warm-up.....then Dunbreck's blowover going through the 2nd "dog-leg" on the run-up from Mulsanne Corner to Indianapolis.

  • @thevmanvj he may be referring to the disaster in the 50s

  • I remember seeing this happen live on TV when I was a kid . Such a shame. For me those CLR-GT1's were the prettiest cars I've ever seen in that class.

  • FWOOSH!!!

  • I remember watching this race when I was 13. After that, I tried to find out which race this was, and to find the video. Finally I found this! Thanks for sharing.

  • This happened earlier to Mark webber in the other merc, and in practice Mark did it again, 3 times, same accident, mental. Then Mark flips over kovalainen. Poor bloke.

  • the driver must have been like: Wow i didnt knew mr. Q fixed my car...

  • I saw this live. It was freaky, I could have sworn it was Vern Schnider but either way I'll never forget it!

  • who is merc-s driver?

  • driver is mark webber

  • Pretty much Mercedes hasn't been back to LeMans after the blowovers.

  • I almost expected when the announcer said "Awww" I almost thought he was going to say "AWESOME ACCIDENT", but he said awful.

  • 0:32 is when Dumbreck begins to shit himself

  • THE DRIVER'S NAME IS SERIOUSLY "PETER DUMBRECK"? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

    DUMBRECK

  • Who was the announcer? I am really impressed with is impromtu composure and commentary.

  • i hate mercedes so...yahoo!

  • Why wasn't this fixed? It happened again 7 years later!

  • @Ultrajuiced u can`t fix things like that. as bad as it sounds: that`s racing!

  • @desmo181: Yes, you can change the aerodynamics so that this wouldn't happen anymore. They were also able to install flaps on the Nascars to prevent them from taking off when they were going backwards.

  • @Ultrajuiced do you mean the roof flaps?well, they also don`t prevent the cars of takin`off all the time.like it`s shown here: watch?v=lzUGyX32glg . but crashes like this are fortunately very rare. the 2nd problem is, u cannot install them on the rooftops like on nascar cuz u don`t have that space on every racecar..maybe u could install them on the bottom but that seems to have an negative affect on the aerodynamics..however..

  • this is why mercedes is not racing in this event

  • :-O What it happened to the pilot?

  • @useritoo

It was Mark Webber. He was fine. The same thing happened to him again at nearly the exact same spot a day or so later!

I think I remember that there were reports about a design flaw on the cars and that mercedes withdrew them from the race.

  • @PfhUkJiu101 untrue. The car in this clip here was driven by Peter Dumbreck. This was the last of three flip-overs in this week, it happened on Saturday afternoon in the race before the 'Indianapolis' corner. Mark Webber's CLR had flipped during friday's qualifying and during saturdays's warm-up-session over the hump at Mulsanne. After the crash as shown here in this video, Mercedes ordered the last CLR into the pits.

  • LoL O.o

  • Elevation change!

  • @azntranc3951 me :)

  • Man that is terrible, I hope the driver is alright.

    Fucking Red Bull!

  • didn't expect that.

  • I hope the guy in the mercedes is OK

  • @eskimodude812 Peter Dumbreck was not injured, just a little shaken up. The trees damped him a bit before he impacted the field.

  • Toyota Driver to Chief Engineer:

"I swear, he was right behind me as I came onto the straight, then as I looked back before entering the corner, he was GONE!!!"

    Chief Engineer:

"Okay, that's it. Come in now, your stint's over."

  • the red toyota was a very good car too,but the benz was faster on the straight open lane

  • Who is going to watch this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans ?! :D

  • Why did that happen?I bet Mclaren car owners did like to see this

  • @enos218 wrong adjustement of the car downforce or i dont no,but soemthing really was wrong with this car.

  • Isso que eu chamo de o cara sai voando com o carro!

  • "This is an awful accident" "So lets look at it this again."

  • And a double backflip from Peter Dumbreck but he's not gonna stick the landing, that's going to lose points from the Russian judges.

  • i remember watching this live, and i was stunned to see the driver unhurt, sitting nerar the wreck. quite a testament to the saftey mercedes demands even in their race cars.

  • To dig a hole...

    You could use a shovel....

    or

You could throw a Mercedes CLR into the earth

  • SHOK CRASH. AND WEBBER IS ALIVE

  • he died?

  • @xIntrothehell no, completely uninjured. :-)

  • This was the most famous airplane made by Mercedes-Benz - "omg, the Mercedes has taken off ! "

  • MARK WEBBER ?!

  • @abo0ody1

HOLY SHIT THIS GUY CAME BACK FROM THE FUTURE?!?!??!

  • wasn't downforce that was the issue. They put more weight at the front of the car after crashes 1 and 2. This is what happens when you shape the car like an airplane wing.

  • I guess Mark Webber thought, "Here we go again." 11 years later he thought it was time for a rerun, when he made a almost exact same crash, when colliding with Kovalainen.

  • "Uploaded by tagaman08 on Mar 7, 2007

Le Mans 99' Mercedes CLR-GT1 Crash Live Version."

Tagman08 must have a time machine!

  • the mercedes is the best

  • @clarktista1 You wouldn't be saying that if you were a squirrel living in the tree that piece of crap just crashed into.

  • quite a well know clip-glad the driver is ok tho

  • is it really live...i think its a recorded video right!?

  • I saw this accident live on TV and I was shocked. I couldn´t believe it. But as everyone know Mark Webber was ok after this accident.

  • The best race track! Here are some of my videos on Le mens track:

  • the Mercedes GTR-CLK is one of the prettiest race cars to date

  • @iluvworldofwarcraft indeed they where pretty... i think the prototype cars of the late 90´s and start 00´s where the most pretty cars at le mans

  • @iluvworldofwarcraft but this is the CLR.

  • @TheValKBawz well the CLR is based on the CLK-GTR supersport, CLR is what i meant i suppose

  • @iluvworldofwarcraft Yes and no, the CLR was its successor. ;) It used most technical components of the CLK GTR as they were still up to date, but the rest was more or less new.

  • @iluvworldofwarcraft i would have to say the Nissan R390 GT1

  • I wish John Hindaugh commentated on this!

  • Funny the car flies when he says here we go !

  • The commentator has no enthusiasm 'Oh my God' lol

  • !?

  • ...cchchhcch....."we have liftoff, over" ....chchchch

  • Lmao waay too much down force. And the car was too light, some was desprate to overtake that gt1

  • that mercedes is the new superman xD

  • Too much downforce at the back, not enough at the front.

  • @calumROBLOX The design of the car was at fault. There are rumors saying that the way the air went over the car created lift like a air plane wing....

  • Red Bull gives you wings

  • @mauro18288 You sir, are full of win.

  • Mark Webber: "Thank you for flying with CLR Airlines, and we hope you will join us again"

  • I want to have that Toyota's babies. Even though I'm a male. Smexy car.

  • "they can't believe it happened again"... again? When did this happen the first time? I saw another vid of a car flipping, was that it? it used to be used on "speedvision" as a commercial.

  • @kemorc

Yeah, Mark Webber (F1 driver now) did it in practice AND in the warm up lap... I think the designer of the car got his maths back to front!!

  • @CRISTOFF17 hmm, definitely not the same car I saw before now that I found the clip I was talking about: wJF06ZP7U2s that clip was used in the commercials. Turns out it was a 911 GT1 at road atlanta.

  • Those things have soooo much downforce, its insane that this even happens.

I was rooting for the GT-One anyway :D

  • go to 00:30 for crash

  • Did the driver die?

  • not enough downforce!

  • @yoogrant Maybe too much downforce in the back?

  • Too much downforce?

  • @youngdones i guess not enough hehe

  • it crashed because there was no downforce at the front

  • mercedes

    youve done it again

stick to luxury if you know whats good for you

  • Ohhh, now that's a nice GT-ONE. (:

  • This isn't the live broadcast. This is from the 1999 Le Mans highlights video.

  • The toyota driver must have been like wtf - a second ago he was on my tail where is that mercedes???

  • did he die?

  • yh

  • @Diman357 No

  • the gt1 toyota is indeed nice

  • The driver's last name is Dumbreck. Oh the irony. LOL!

  • thats what you call a car thinking its a plane

  • wow...

  • the air sum how got under instead of down force he got beam me up scotty

  • In Le Mans I don't think you got bonus points for doing stunt tricks.

  • They need to stop making them out of paper : -)

  • Mercedes must have flipped like 3 times that year at le mans alone!

  • mercedes again!

    1955

  • It goes right over the flag marshal. I bet he needed a change of overalls!!!

  • did he died?

  • @JoSigurd92

    no

  • saefty car no needed

  • wow, so much for aerodynamic down force.

  • That was Mark Webber, right?

  • @jianh1989 No, it's Peter Dumbreck. But mark webber had something similar.

  • @jianh1989 Peter Dumbreck. But MArk Webber flipped his car over first in Qualifying, then again in race warm up

  • Comment removed

  • This is what happens when cars have a flat pannel covering the bottom of the chassis, and not enough downforce. I'm really glad he survived. However! I still stand my ground as to no car should have the entire chassis completely covered like Mercedes did with this car! Why do some auto manufacturers insist on doing this!? WHY!? WHY!? Diffuser's are one thing, but a completely covered bottom of the chassis will upset the aerodynamics of a car!! And it's near fatal crashes like this that prove it!

  • @extremedrivr:

the flat panel on the bottom actually helps in aerodynamics, because the bottom is flat, there's no place to where air-resistance can take place underneath the car... that can help at a car's top speed... and besides, once a car has taken off due to high speed, flat bottom or not, it will take off...

  • @blackrose0917 what's the deal? not enough front downforce or just bad luck?

  • @S14VH45

I'd go for a little bit of both... but more on the part where the car has not enough front downforce...

  • *insert comparison to bugatti veyron here*

  • gran turismo wheelie glitch in real life right there.

  • to me, the Mercedes CLR and Toyota GT-One were faster than Pescarolo Peugeot 2003 and 2003 and Audi 2000 and 2001 and maybe 2002. i don't know for the Bentley Speed-8 2003.

  • This is what happens once you remove the Group C tunnels and putting not one but two stupid chicanes on the Mulsanne straight. Le Mans used to be such a fabulous race a mere shadow of what it once was. Long live Group C forever!!!!

  • @carbonsnail Mmm... No. Today's P1 cars could easily exceed 260mph on the unmodified Mulsanne, if you launched at that speed the car would completely disintegrate driver and all.

  • The funny thing is when I played GT4 years ago with Mercedes CLK-GTR Race Car, the car did the same thing in the same place and I thought to myself that it was just a glitch...

  • @Chupacabras84 Well this is a Mercedes CLR not a CLK-GTR

  • I can't help but think that this is one reason why they took closed cockpits off Prototypes for a while: with a cockpit dome the car inadvertently has a wing-shaped profile which lends itself disturbingly well to lift...

  • Rofl Webber must work on royal air force, he likes to fly, Le Mans and this year at Valencia.

  • @jagfordo except this isnt webber.

  • Takeing off!!!

That driver was safe. no damaged

  • That Toyota is a sexy car ;)

  • I'm pretty sure this is car no.4 and the Driver was Mark Webber.

  • @KevmeisterHo Nope Webber crashed in qualifying in almost exactly the same manner so it's understandable why you'd think that. Peter Dumbreck crahsed a couple hours into the race which this shows.

  • he dead?

  • Comment removed

  • @BermuProduction he is near to win the F1 championship this year, I think that he is not dead lol

  • @Infynyte True... very true... LOL I hope he wins this years F1 championship.. for some reason..I just dont think Hamilton deserves it. I guess I have no love for a newcomer coming into a series and getting into a great established team like McLaren and thinking he is hot shit.... Politics is politics though.. I think its 60% car, and 40% driver now days. Back in the 60-80's and earlier.... you needed big balls.. now days, you just need a team with a blank checkbook.

  • the driver is mark webber

  • @MrComix90 They did, they just didn't know it!

  • mercedes should make planes...

  • @IncubusGrauen ROFL

  • Wow! ! Wow! ! Incredible!

  • I can't get over how blase the announcer is...I would be freaking out.

  • wonder how fast that was

  • This is incredible.

  • Weber is not a good driver,he just adores flying in the air

  • once dumbreck twice webber

  • @saintsouleyman

man, i would celebrate that day in February as a second birthday :)

and yes, Snow (or massive rain) and Merc-Rear-wheel drive sucks.. always fun to watch my neighbour try to get out his Merc of his basements garage - especially last winter..we had a LOT of snow here in germany :D

  • I watched this live I remember thinking wtf then another one took off. Mercedes light aeroplanes!

  • This is Mark Webbers crash

it is exactly the same crash, place and footage

  • @HORNETMAD92 no, its Peter Dumbrecks crash, Mark webber flipped at the Qualifying and warmup session.

  • wowwwwwwwwww

  • We have liftoff!

  • I think John Force would be able to win them both.

  • ieri in F1!

  • guys, you can`t compare an Penis-enlargement-car like a veyron with this racing cars (!)... seriously, start to think before writing down such a crap.

whats next? somebody who thinks a dragster would beat a F1 car on a Grand prix circuit, because it has more horsepower...? wtf..

  • @saintsouleyman

congratulations to you for driving a mercedes the right time... 90 km/h against a tree...? holy shit.

    And i love this sentence:

"Oh my God ! The Mercedes has taken off !" :-)

  • @skp115 - no it wasn't Webber, this clip is during the race and while Peter Dumbreck was driving. Webber did it in practice and the warm up, don't know how thay let them race considering it happened twice before it even started.

  • did he die?

  • @362783137684532 , No, the driver was Mark Webber who now drives for Red Bull in F1

  • yeah, webber wasn't in the seat at the time, however he had a massive accident yesturday at the european GP. went into the back of the lotus and went sky high. he's alright now.

  • p.s. i'm not saying the Veyron would win purely on it's speed, because like most of you say there's braking and cornering to take into account, i'm just saying they can be compared.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually comparing the Veyron to these cars is pretty apt. You do realise all the cars in Le Mans have to be road legal. If a Veyron was to take part in a Le Mans race it would be set up for the conditions just like all the other cars.

Think about it this way, the Veyron (on the road) is compared with the McLaren F1 which itself is a multiple times Le Mans winning car. Personally i'm not a fan of the Veyron, but if it where to take part in a race it would be set up to do so.
