The thing that THIS was that todays WWE is NOT is simply that it was FUN. It was exciting and funny. Remember,as far as we knew this was legit! Tony Garea really decked Albano. LOL!
The immortal Louis Vincent Albano. No one caused pandemonium like the Captain. If it wasn't for him and Bobby Heenan all managers would have been either little skinny guys with turbans or old men with canes. They were the ones who set the standard for people like Jim Cornette, Col. Robert Parker, "Coach" John Tolos and others.
@norseleague Very true. And they were WWWF US tag team champions in the late '60s. After the team broke up, Albano became a manager. His first protege was Crusher Verdu. He also managed the last WWWF US tag champs, The Mongols (Geeto was former jobber Tony "Skunkman" Newberry and Beppo was Josip Peruzovic, later known as Nikolai Volkoff).
@EmeraldAlliances No problem. I just noticed a mistake in my reply to norseleague - it wasn't US tag champions, but rather International tag champs. The WWWF US title was a singles championship, much like the Intercontinental and US titles of the modern WWE.
@yardlet6 He is - I found out after I posted this comment that Tony Newberry's real name was Newton Tattrie (listed in some sources as "Newton Hattice").
I remember those Saturday morning wrestling matches in the 70's and nothing got the crowd going more than Captain Lou taking a few good shots!!!

At one time tony Altimore and Lou Albano were world tag team champions and later mid card tag team draws. AS World tag team champions in the N
WA I think before the then WWWF. And we are talking the late 50s-early 60s...

Love it!! No one drew as much heat as Captain Lou back in the day! What year is this? I'm guessing '77 or '78.
