  • Brilliant and inspiring!

  • Wonderful and inspiring but… No Helmet over those dangerous jumps… :(

I can see some kid being so inspired by this presentation that they go out and try to jump a picnic table and end up in a head trauma unit somewhere…

  • This is the video I saw up at the Colorado Parelli Center during the Fast Track! I've been telling people about it, but didn't know where to actually find it!

  • First song is by Enigma - " Turn around", second Enigma " T.N.T for the Brain" - that longer version, which lasts 5:18

  • Just wonderful..!!!

  • Just wonderful...!!!!

  • very beautyfull, so nice to see the relationship between man and horsy

  • he´s amazing :)

  • Y u can Dwnlad in really great quality just Search Google for 'TheNewsBuzz" its there

  • WOW *-*

  • Comment removed

  • Just saw Mikey, Red Sun and Pecas at the Parelli Celebration in Birmingham, UK - AMAZING!!! You are an inspiration Mikey.

  • just wonderful, how he plays with her. wonderful.

  • Really great!

  • respect. des isch einfach sooo schön. da ist null tierquälerei dabei. das pferd hat sichtlich spaß daran! echt duper

  • I love horsemenship, its so funny to watch this!!!! how consantrated the horse is!!! I love it =)

  • why has ppl but thumbs down on my comment? i have done parelli level 2 and quantum level one , i was just saying i find quantums programme more understandable and easier to follow , i wasnt putting parelli down! i think its amazing , and the people who made quantum are good friends with linda and pat parelli and are parelli instructors themselves!!

  • I WANT TO DO THIS (: Parelli is what i want to do, love this video.

  • wooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

  • have a look at QuantumSavvy ! its practically the same , i have done both and i find quantum's programme easier to follow !

  • whoa i don't know much about Parelli (i do more Monty Roberts work with my horse) but i'd love to know more about his work. it seems to me that it's quite similar... Monty does 'Join-Up' and 'Follow-Up' and with the horse following Parelli it's quite similar. I love the use of body language etc. with the riding!

  • its wonderfull, this magic and this beauty it looks like they're dancing,,,,

  • this is awesome

  • amazing....

  • It's a little black rope around Red Suns neck.

But he also can ride him with non of these things.

Look for other Videos: serach for: Michael Wanzenried

  • whats he got in his hand when he is riding red sun? when he comes up to the camera at 5.25? x

  • He's riding with a neck rope. It's just a thick piece of string (a Savvy String, actually, I believe) that is looped around the horse's neck. It's not about control, but about being able to provide the horse with extra information.

  • simply amazing,

  • Go Mikey! Great job! You and Red Moon have made a fabulous journey. Thanks for sharing.

  • wow...thats so amazing! spectacular!

  • LOL...

Some of us aren't afraid of the horse.

PP system fees off the fear.

  • anyone who is not a fan of parelli needs to rethink their horsemanship alot.

great job me and my horse arnt quite there yet.

  • There are methods of interacting, training and building relationships that are much more amazing than Pat Parrelli, and I'm not even talking about Klaus F. Hemplfling or Alexander Nevzorov (even though these people have real gifts when it comes to knowing horses). Just to get the real info out there...

  • Great !

  • This is totally stunning! It makes you tingle. you can see there is a small loop that Mike is holding onto. But this is not in a restraint way. Just as if its to help him communicate with the horse. I really wish to aim for this one day. But the Parelli courses are soooo expensive!!

  • but they are a lot less expensive than riding lessons that would get you to the same place. Actually, for all the information in them, they are a good deal in the horse world where they don't hand out toilet paper without charging, lol.

  • I love this video, after reading peoples comments though, you can most defiantly see the rider holding SOMETHING after jumping the second fence and turning around, but to say whether it is reins or not. Plus the person who posted it says in the info that it is not them

  • It is a savvy string around the neck. Kind of like a liberty ring, but it can be used for other things. It's no secret or anything. It is used until the freestyle "savvy" is advanced enough to go without it as a safety net.

  • I'm not a fan of parelli, but i have to admit that this is a very impressive video!

  • Absolutely astonishing! I do Parelli training with my horses. they do not have a fear of me, only mutual trust and understanding. It takes so much longer to teach them when you use this method, vs. 'cowboy training them' but you end up with a horse that trusts, loves and understands you. Well worth it and highly recommended!! GREAT job MIKEY!!

  • Amazing video! Can anyone tell me what the first song that is used in this video is called?

  • puan piano ci arriverò anke io! :-) complimenti veramente bravo!

  • ciao mikey.... dal tuo autista italiano..eheehhe... sergio

  • is there any courses in new zealand?

  • Yes, go to their website! :) They have instructors in the UK, Australia/New Zealand, Canada, and USA.

  • Amazing video! Keep coming back when I need little inspiration!

  • does anyone know what songs are used?

  • wow, that was very impressive! and those jumps were amazing :O

  • I don't like to get involved in these arguments anymore, but you will find the same idea of a string, ring, or no bridle to communicate with a horse. As for this particular horse's play drive, I can honestly witness to the fact that not all horses look like bunnies when they are playing (It is really up to you where the line, which is fine, is drawn b/t a good and bad countenance).

  • Wow!Even if you don't agree with the training method the results are impressive.

  • realy good vid 5*

  • Great job Mikey and Red Sun..

  • There are no reins. The "reins" you are seeing are simply a small string tied around Red Sun's neck. You can easily see this by the way the man holds his hands and communicates with them and even more so by the way the horse holds his head. For example, during the backing, he puts his head down and drives with his legs-not giving with his head/poll, instead he's actually stretching out a little.

  • Also,I see absolutely no worry in this horse. At times I see concentration and right at the very beginning a little lagging, but certainly no 'dominance.' Besides, the person who posted this is not the person riding. The person riding is a Parelli Professional, whom I have seen ride in other situations and I guarantee you it's genuine.

  • Sorry I disagree. in a herd hierarchy the horses take great care not to displease the leader, and this appears the case in the vid.

He is mirroring the leader's behaviour not doing things he is asked to do because he is trained to do them. There is a vast difference in the two.

  • Henryhorn1, you are very astute, but a little off track. Horses take care to not displease the alpha BY mirroring what the leader is doing. This becomes quite obvious in watching a mare / foal relationship. The fact that this horse is mirroring Mikey shows that Mikey HAS established a leadership postition by using, as Pat Parelli would say, Love Language and Leadership as opposed to fear intimidation and mechanics. In other words, the natural way.

  • There are no reins on this horse in this video, ever. What is not shown is that at 3:28 when the video has been clipped, Mikey has taken the string off of his carrot stick and tied it around Red Sun's neck (you can just see him doing this as the video cuts over). I realize it is poor quality, but at 3:35 you can see Mickey reach up and use the string as a subtle cue to lay the horse down. The string is black (this means something in the world of Parelli) so it is hard to see, so look closely.

  • If you look carefully you'll see he IS genuinely riding brideless- its the string off his carrot stick that's tied around the horses neck, which is something a lot of NH students do when riding Brideless. This guy is very talented horseman and if you took the time to look into the theory behind NH you'd soon answer your own questions about the "utter domination". There's no rope, no bridle- just the truth... A very strong relationship based on love, language & leadership in equal doses...

  • Wow! I wasn't expecting the jump out of the arena!! I can't wait till me and my pony are at that level!!

  • Outstanding!

  • niesamowite :)

  • That was really great, I enjoyed watching it. What a nice horse, and good relationship between horse and man. So much trust, obedience, and confidence.

  • redsun has clearly accepted mikey as his leader all horses could and should be handled this way

  • Just look how tentative Red Sun is! It is really humbling when you build a language with your horse using patience instead of force and end up with a flight animal that is willing to follow you the same way he or she follows the alpha horse.

  • i can't post a slightly argumentative comment on this video's commentary and not post a legit comment about the video itself. I love watching this video. The horse reminds me of my sister's horse. Lots of ppl have always mistaken her countenance as being angry when she is actually just doing something she loves.

  • I love to watch this clip. It makes you breathe slower and relax. I totally agree with seabiscuit, too.

  • ok, so the jumping at the end was pretty impressive!! nice work

  • I keep coming back to this video.. and refer people to it a LOT. What I notice is his stick, how often it's in neutral position (a very good thing) and how often he lovingly touches this horse, especially after he's asked for something difficult. He's just so gentle with the relationship.

  • Beatiful video! Just keep coming back to this one. :) Anyway, does anyone know what kind of horse that is? Quarter?

  • I believe it's an Arab.

  • What a beautiful and inspiring video. Many thanks for posting it!

  • i look this video many times.. its great..

  • Beautiful and inspiring, i'll always dream of this.

Btw, Does anyone know what music this is (artist / track name)? I really want the music. It sweetly reminds me of the movie. Would be really helpful! :)

  • look at earlier comments, i'm pretty sure someone knew the music, but i'm to lazy to look it up :)

  • I looked pretty far down, i try i bit farther, thanks :)

  • that is pretty amazing.

  • I totally agree with you on this..A horse aint a dog.The human is the leader

  • It's not about the tricks. And I don't think you understand Parelli if you think that it's forcing the horse into a relationship: It's all about waiting for the horse to want a relationship. Most people have to start all over from square one from with their horse when they start Parelli because you can't start doing anything with them until they want to be with you. What you are describing is NH. Have you ever done NH? It has helped my horses, and you couldn't tell me that they are miserable.

  • I would like to refer you to countrygalxp's vids. That horse is a parelli horse who clearly had her spirit broken by parelli's "spirit breaking domination"-love. It's really ok if it's not your way of working with horses, but it actually works for some ppl...I think that is the equivalent of "It holds some truth, so stop hoing PNH".

  • I agree with youmsityhorse2001. There are good and great things about parelli but there are also bad and worse things about parelli!

(spirit broken by parelli's "spirit breaking domination"-love. )

Look at the training closely and you start to see things not right with the system and training!

  • I don't mind that you agree with that view, but I can't tell a lie...I was actually being sarcastic. The horse in the vids I referred to is a Level 3 horse, and she obviously has spirit. I don't see anything wrong with the system so far, but I totally respect the opinion that it is not flawless. I think that someone who could better relate to you is a user that goes by turtle something or other. Sorry again.

  • My horse does things for me willingly in parelli. He runs up to me from the far pasture. Then he sticks his nose right in his halter. Do you call that a relasionship where the horse is afraid of me?

  • No I call that a wonderful relationship and connection with your horse and you...it's called ENERGY...not Pat Parelli---rolls eyes---

  • you really don't know alot about horse love do you? how does your horse treat YOU???

  • One wonders what happened to the poor horse before PP showed up on the scene...

Jeez people..get your heads out of the sand...

I have had the misfortune of attending a few PP seminars and I look at these beautiful animals and they are spirit defeated..walking dead..!

This has to be one of the worst examples at the low the human will sink to dominate another creature..all in the name of "love"..GAK!!

If you want to do this to a horses spirit..here's a little advice don't buy a horse!

  • I guess horses break each other's spirits everyday then.

  • It's not about the PNH, it's just about NH. It's about what I have been doing with my horses before I knew that NH existed. What Parelli does is what other horses do. However, I REALLY can't say anymore, b/c I know that is just your opinion, and I respect your opinion as being something that you have an undeniable right to.

  • Parrelli is about conditioning, as far as my experience goes. I can agree that horses souls are lost with the amount of conditioning that they are out through. If you ever get the chance, see what Ellen Ofstad has to say about it. She talks about it in the Scandinavian movie Horse Trainer Across Borders.

  • please explain what you mean about 'conditioning'-mentally or physically?

  • I appreciate your opinion but my experience differs. Parelli is about the horse-human relationship, two species partnering to achieve what would otherwise be impossible. There are many great horsemen but Parelli have produced a simple and progressive program anyone can follow, something many horsemen struggle with because they are so good automatically and can't teach the fundamentals of what they are doing. Parelli preserves the horse's dignity and reveals their soul, it doesn't destroy it

  • I couldn't disagree more. Parelli is nothing about conditioning. Its about enhancing a horses soul, enhancing their opinion, playing with them, and giving them an opinion.

My horse thanks me every day

  • wao! Impressing! :)

  • Remove from the equation the carrot stick, the area that the horse is confined to, work with the horse in an open environment. No ropes, halters, boundaries, no force. This is how I train my horse. That makes me a better teacher, communicator. Lose the carrot stick and HOW MUCH authority do you have??? Is this what your training is based upon? You need to rethink yor ethics. The trainer THINKS he is close to his horse, but this is not as good as it can be. It gets MUCH better than this.

    Ally

  • i bet he knows that and i bet he *has* gotten better as this video is actually pretty old. i'm glad that you have an even better relationship with your horse - good for you! maybe post a video or two? i would really like to see it. the fact that you are gloating about it over here though... not in very good taste in my humble oppinion.

  • So, it gets much worse, too. And you are far too focused on the equipment. It is not about the equipment. It is not about the tools. Minus the carrot sticks, and you use tiny finger movements. But you need to start somewhere. Geez. Look a bit further into this form of NH before critiquing it so vehemently.

  • from holland, very very much respect,

and i can do without the music.

    Parelli USA TOURWAY

MORE THAN JUST RIDING - A MAJOR EQUESTRIAN EVENT!

  • the best

  • Wow.. Sieht echt geil aus.. Wie geht das?*staun*

  • Cool!!!

  • Congrats! That looked amazing!

The horse seemed to be having fun.

  • Red Sun I believe was a very challenging horse. The remains of that still show through at points. Fearful of the stick? I beg to differ. If he truely was scared of the stick then you definitely would not be sticking around Mikey at liberty for all of those maneuvers. Red Sun is an Arab there is no way he would just let that slide if he was indeed scared.

  • Yup! You're the only one that needs to try to make something ugly out of this.

Shoulders relaxed, ears and tail up and relaxed, happy to please his partner...not the body language of a "tense, unhappy, fearful" horse.

    Get a life, my friend.

  • wtf??

    ur u on crack??

if the horse was tence, scared of the stick and unhappy, he would b in the next paddock instead of in the arena!!

    gees..

i think this 1 is blind!

  • Im hearing you. Try getting that reaction out of a horse in an open field without a carrot stick. GOOD LUCK. Kid yourself and think your horse is well trained in a round yard. I dont use round yards, dont use sticks or whips or strings or ropes or halters. My horses are there because they WANT to be not because they are trapped. GO ON dear readers, FLAME ME but try it I dare you. See if you get the same respect from your horse if he can run away.

    Ally

  • allyonpally:

Relationships don't just appear out of thin air. How will you work with your horse if she/he is out eating? The halter, carrot stick, crops, bits, ropes, etc all disappear with time as the horse gets more sensitive. I don't think that your form of training is wrong, but this way works: there are too many great results to say it doesn't. What was keeping the horse with him when he was on the ground? The carrot stick wasn't, honest.

  • I'm a late Level three student. And Yes, I play with my horses out in the open. We often play out in the middle of a open hay field at liberty. No halter, no lead, no CS. It's a true test of the relationship to play like that with the very tempting lush green grass right there. Pat has said over and over and over again to not get stuck in the round pen, once you're in Level three you are expected to be able to do everything any where with any amount of equipment.

  • How could anyone NOT want that? I love the playing!!

  • wow! that is amazing!

  • it`s amazing... Congratulation....

  • What some people don't seem to be understanding is that playing with a horse like this at liberty is THE TRUTH in your relationship with that horse. That arena was big enough for him to gallop off and just hide in the corner or run to the gate.

  • This is so wonderfull

  • I love this video, it has made me question so much of what I have been thaught to be correct of horse training, I watch this quite often and it set's my mental attitude up correctly for my beautiful horse.

    ASHAMED and ENLIGHTENED THANK YOU.

  • nettlebottom, don't be ashamed! Be proud! You made a breakthrough in thinking that many never do :-)

    Yay NH!

  • Get you level 1 and don't be ashamed. I did normal riding for 5 years for before I saw Pat Parelli at the Western Expo and had my own guilt trip! Look into a Parelli future!

  • lol, that is so cute how you said it...but I wouldn't be surprised to have a lot of sour comments coming for it, lol. It's the story for a lot of ppl who do Parelli though. You were either just getting back into horses, already a natural horseman taking in a new source, or someone who thought Parelli was a stupid scheme to teach horses circus tricks. And what reverence I have for all of the 3rd group who have a cup of humility and actually try it.

  • lol p/o'ed means well just mad & upset like sometimes his ears are back.

    but those jumps were incredible

  • hm. well, i don't really know. from what i have heard red sun used to be a problem horse so it might be just some old issues? then again, if you look at Jean Francois Pignon horses for example, they look down right agressive when he preforms with them! so it might be some kind of effect that liberty training has on some horses? maybe they are being playful :S hm, hm, dunno, sorry. but most of the time red sun seems to be fine imo, he only pins his ears now and then.

  • Ears back can also be a sign of playfulness and mock aggression, for example when "cutting" a human cow.

  • Great video! Awesome teamwork/partnership.

  • Pleasee don't yell at me for this but why does the horse look p/o'ed?

  • sorry, what's p/o'ed?

  • That's amazing, I was actually thinking of starting that with my yearling, but I'm not sure.

  • YES! That's an awsome idea! It might be best starting off with an older horse first before doing it with the yearling if you don't know the program thou.

  • yes sasseyo.

anyone can do parelli im on level 2 and i have an qtr/tb 16 hands it doesnt need to be a qtr. parelli would work great for you or you could try clinton anderson...

    but parelli is way better!!!!!!!

  • yee haw

  • it's so fucking amazing

  • do you have to have the right sort of horse to do this, because they all seem to be quater horses etc. i have a 14.2 holiestine x new forest, nd i'm very intrested in parelli, but 1 he oersn't lyk bein lunged basicaly tries to kill whoever is lungin him so is this ever goin to b possible 4 mi.

  • all horses can be parelli trained, but not all horses are suitable to LEARN parelli with. the breed is not importaint, but if your horse is a problem horse you might get hurt or do more damage to him while you are still trying to learn your moves. also - stallions are not suitable for beginner parelli students.

  • he not a stallion hes a gelding

  • i wasn't imply that he was.

  • ok sorry i wouldn't handle a stallion because i know i'm not confident enough to. is there trainning tht u can go to as i am in the uk xxx

  • You can do it with any horse. It might take longer with some, and might take time to fix the association your horse has with lunging but it can be done. You can go to parelli dot com for more info. I highly recommend their level 1 pack to get started. It's well worth the money.

  • If you are having trouble getting a horse started lunging check out Stacy Westfall's training videos for ground work, or better yet, try to get to one of her demonstrations and ask your questions to her directly, she's great!

  • you can do it with any horse. Red sun is an arabian.

  • Spectacular Horse-Man-Ship! I'm glad you posted it. Many thanks!

  • Amazing video, so glad you posted it lammas, I don't think I've seen Mikey before.

I've completed level one with my quarter horse cross gelding, and just about every horse I've been able to work with, lol. I can't wait till next year when Pat comes to Williamston NC so I can get level two.

  • wow! amazing!!!!!!!

  • wow! that is amazing!

  • omg that is amazingggg...I was not expecting him to jump that. I love this!

  • Thanks for posting this. =) Do you know what Mikey does now?

  • he does the same stuff. I think he lives in switzerland but I'm not sure.

  • I'm not joking - this stuff nearly brought a tear to my eye. It's so BEAUTIFUL!!! I think one of my goals in life is to have a vid like that! check out 'me and kyzer, no bridle, we have fun' for stuff like this which we might b capable of! This stuff is too magical :D

  • OMG!!! NOW I KNOW WHAT I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!

    i want RED SUN!!!!!!!

  • well to get a horse to level three takes about 3-4 years, so to that point probably took Mikey at least 5 years with Red Sun. I love this video!!!

  • very long! for this?? more than a year i think. so good ...so fantastique!!

  • FANTASTIC!! WHAT a relationship!! Anyone know how long Mike worked with Red Sun to get to this level of communication??

  • THIS is the level that my new paint gelding and I are working to achieve. FANTASTIC!!

  • The music switches to something else once he gets on Red Sun's back. Where is that from?

  • Everytime I watch this video I have to take a step back. This is the result of opening your mind to other venues, and not settling for the quick-fix training techniques that are used so often today.

  • good job! this guy with his horse are awesome! i never could do parelli in my life so well ^^ he sure was in colorado... fabolouse job!

  • when he starts riding it makes me sad. my horse let me do that but nobody trained her. I miss her T_T

  • The level of subtlety in this partnership gives me tingles. And you say there are another 6 levels above that?! WOW!!!! But the price of the stuff is way beyond me.

  • Go to Ebay, search for "Parelli Level 1". You will usually find several old-style Level 1 kits going in the $50 range. That's the price of two low-end riding lessons. Knock off halters and sticks are cheap, or you can just start out using the equipment you already have. It's the knowledge that's valuable, not the overpriced lead lines-- that's just how the Parelli's pay for their lovely ranch in Colorado. :-)

  • Wonderful work! Love it!

I feel sorry for those who criticize whithout trying these methods, they really miss something nice...

  • This guy is fabulous....I don't do Parelli and I don't care what the CCI people do....show me a person in CCI who can do this...and quite frankly, I'll be impressed! Sometimes you have to let go of your bigotry. I have.

  • please don't talk about parelli until you know a bit more about his philosphy. This partnership is level 4 and there is another 6 levels beyond that, perfection is obtained by leaving the horse think he is the winner not through constant correction.

  • Interestingly, Red Sun was a rogue stallion who was given to the Parelli center because he was so dangerous. Parelli gave him to this Level 4 student to work with, and these were the results at the time. Mike still owns this horse, who is now a gelding, and continues to progress and refine his training. "Ruined", indeed. :/

  • NOW a GELDING. that can completley change a horse. the first thing they did was probably cut off his manhood making it possible for him to focus.

  • umm, I don't think Red Sun is ruined. The jumping was NOT awful. Can you jump that high? Probably not like Mikey can. I wish people would just keep their nasty thoughts to themselves.
