  • Brilliant...D.I.Y. forever

  • Long live Dischord

  • What is this from?

  • lol @ 2:47

  • what is the song playing @2:53? i have forgotten the name

  • @smirov Fugazi - "Styrofoam"

  • WHERE IS THIS FROM???

  • I wish I worked there.

  • where is this from? "D.I.Y. or Die: How to Survive as an Independent Artist " is it from this dvd???

  • more++

  • ....e.g. by Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys??

  • @hatsoff2thezebras If you're inspired at any age, follow that inspiration and do something with it.

  • I mean why can't a 22 year old listen to youth and be inspired?

  • Great point. Now I feel dumb for liking Fugazi. Thank you for posting this.. you've changed the world.

  • You are a sculpture of a human being cobbled from turd. In case you didn't already know.

  • Is is too old for a 22 year old to start getting into punk/hardcore, if it truly interests them and if they haven't been into "punk" in their youth, but instead listened to chart-fodder?? I mean if you were "superficial" when you were younger, and then now you decide to change because you've "woken up"...What I'm asking is how old is too old to turn "punk"?

    Mackaye is an inspiration!

  • never too old to change your music taste

  • @hatsoff2thezebras

Listen to whatever you want, don't let what people think of you stop you listening to what you like.

  • @hatsoff2thezebras Sorry, punk's full. We'll keep you in mind in case there are any openings.

  • Personally, I'm fairly conservative. and I don't like liberal politics (love dischord though), but can't you guys come up with anything more articulate than "FUCK (WHATEVER)" ? You're winning not one heart or one mind doing that.

  • have you listened to a recent fugazi record or are you basing your opinions on records 17 year old kids recorded in the early 80s? your sentiments make sense for some other punk labels but dischord has released some beautifully voiced political commentary, i'm hard pressed to think of a single record on their label that makes a FUCK ____ comment.

  • Bencodec. I wasn't talking about Fugazi (or any other dischord artist), I was talking about all these people posting on YouTube who say "FUCK (whatever)" just because they see/hear sometihng they don't like. My point was, if you don't like something, discuss it, don't just say "FUCK YOU" because that gets nothing done. Did that make sense? BTW I own the majority of the dischord catalog. WooHoo!

  • It won my mind. At seventeen, I was the only one in my town that seemed mildly politically interested (that I knew of at the time), being the only person I knew of that seemed to have an opinion on alcohol consumption other than "as much as possible as often as possible", hearing Minor Threat for the first time was a fucking revelation, man. Knowing that I wasn't alone in being pissed off at all the bullshit going on meant so much to me, it got me through high school without going insane.

  • FUCK POTATOES

  • although theres nothing wrong with chicks and doing burn outs. I kind of disagree

  • haha

  • I was in that building! my friend and I were sitting in my car across the street staring admiringly at the Dicshord House and this guy let us into the Dischord Records building and gave us six free posters. That was a great day.

  • who's the chick in the sweater...errm

  • what's the picture book they were showing?

  • Dance of Days: Two Decades of Punk in the Nation's Capital.

  • thanks!

  • Finaly! there is a face to go with all of those packing slips! thanks for making sure my records and cd's are safe Basla.

  • No. One or two other members of bands in the "hardcore scene" at the time (namely Flipper) were into drugs, but not Minor Threat.

  • Dischord put out some good music over the years.

    Despite there anal retentive politics

  • did he say "moral majority" was by youth brigade and on dischord?? dead kennedys. alternative tentacles. youth brigade. byo records......

  • There was also a Youth Brigade in Dc. They were not affliated with the BYO band of the same name in California.

  • Actually, he said it was about the Moral Majority, which sadly, is more than a Dead Kennedys song.

  • yes but his description of the song sounded a lot like the dk one, plus the vid shows a picture of a dk show right when he says that...

  • Right, both songs are called "Moral Majority" and both are about the Moral Majority (visit their site). The photo is not of the Dead Kennedys, but of Youth Brigade, as taken by Sarah Woodell.

  • Well I guess I've been decently pwned here on this vid. Anyway, Dischord rules.

  • A picture of DK? What, are you kidding? Dead Kennedys were 10 years older than the kids in that photo, and it doesn't even look like those dudes... learn your history, or since it's obviously OK to NOT know things, don't try to act like an expert if you're not sure, or wrong.

  • Damn I'm such a poser, shall I kill maself?

  • Flex Your Head, a record on Dischord. Important record if you're reading this... check it out. Kinda weird that you'd know YB on BYO but DC Youth Brigade escaped you all these years...

  • @GretnaBlast yeah the better young organization was young brigade's label.. needs to check another state of mind

  • @GretnaBlast Also, He isn't talking about Youth Brigade from california on BYO. He's talking about the Youth Brigade from DC.

  • @GretnaBlast The Moral Majority is one of the most appalling groups of people to ever exist. Research them. Phyllis Schlafly?

  • @straightedge442

I know who the fuck the Moral Majority was, that wasn't the question. THREE YEARS AGO I was confused about which Youth Brigade and which song titled "Moral Majority" is mentioned in this video.

  • @GretnaBlast Sorry for the misinterpretation you wonderful individual.

  • I hope Ian starts putting out some books. Not just about music, but his philosophies. I would buy them up in a heart beat.

  • i wouldn't. love mckaye, but i feel like a lot of cats just eat that shit up, hook, line and sinker. think for yourself.

  • Dischord is a phenomenal label that has stuck to its guns for over 25 years. Few labels can do that for even a decade.

  • One of my favorite record labels.

They've put out music for some of my favorite bands like Minor Threat, Fugazi, DC Youth Brigade, Teen Idles, all great shit.

  • Whats the brown minor threat cover of?

I've never seen it anywhere else!

  • Hahaha, I LOVE that picture of Ian S.

  • cool documentary.

  • Lots of respect for Dischord and what they´ve been doing for such a long time.

    Really.

  • To me their doing it right, wrong compared to big record labels whose main motive is to make money.

  • fun fun!

  • cool. nice vid.
