  • I'm a big Genesis fan, and BOY CAN PAUL SING!!!!

Funny, take a good look at his facial expresions

he looks ALOT like PHIL COLLINS.

Not on purpose, just a coincidence.....

  • this song holds so much to so many am glad i hadnt went though but yea its a fantastic song take care guys sure your folks will be watching over you's .

  • Perfect song great performance

  • Lloro, lloro, lloro... nunca he dejado de llorar cuando escucho esta obra de arte.

  • I wonder, to have lost a loved one suddenly, or to have watched them grow old and die. Is it not the real trial to battle the past through hindsight, then really just miss what was taken for granted in the 1st place. God bless the resurection.

  • So nicely done, wow. I wish all live performances could evoke such feeling.

  • fantastic, boy, have we produced some brilliant music on this little island of ours

  • @CornishCockney I agree. It doesn't get much better than this :)

  • hard to believe its been 12 years since the end of the 90s and the music died

  • This song is so powerful and so beautifully sung. I have always loved this song, but now it means so much more to me. I have just recently lost my daddy. He passed away suddenly just a few days ago (2/20/12), from a massive heart attack. My grief is only beginning I know. But now when I hear this song, I feel so thankful that I have always had such a great relationship with him. Miss him so much now, but I know I'll see him again. Love ya, daddy :)

  • look how happy Mike is performing. That's what it's about.

  • Whenever I here this song I tell myself that I wont cry, then a few bars in I think of my dad and the tears start. He passed away 10 years ago now and I miss him every day. He was always there for me but during my teenage years I was not the best daughter. I just want to say sorry and just wish he was here now, miss you dad xx

  • Tout ce qui est beau et moin beau entre un pere et son fils.N'attendez pas pour leurs dire...Je t'aime.

  • makes me cry when I listen to this song, as it reminds me of my relationship with my dad, when he was here with us ,we never did see eye to eye for so many yearsand when we did start to see it was too late.

  • @21luke45, you will have a second chance, for sure (Facts 24:15)

  • Life is all about CHOICES, These choices makes who we are. Unfortunately, we ourselves don't always realize what effect it has on others (or even care sometimes). We may, or may not see the whole picture until it's to late. So, make the right CHOICES before its to late.

  • @phil9648 Well said. There are realities to our CHOICES. While we may get other opportunities we won't get the one right in front of us ever again.

  • this Song remembers me about my Problems with my father and we never talked until the end of his life, although he wanted to change bis life. Too sad that you have to walk trough this experience. I miss you...

  • This beautiful song suffers from the overblown bullshit production

  • Fantastic by Paul Carrack originally written by B A Robertson and Mike Rutherford.Gets better each time i here it.

  • The emotion I feel when I hear this song is indescribable great song great passion Paul carrack

  • That is one hell of a song - love it.

  • Once again. What a wonderful voice! :) Totally feeling it! :)

  • A beautiful song, I was only 2 when my Dad passed on and I miss him every day. I can not even imagine how sad it must be for those who were older and have a better memory of their Dad. Paul Carrack has a beautiful voice with such passion.

  • This song becomes more relevant as you get older ...... believe me.

  • Beautiful.

  • RESPECT ALLWAYS TO YOU MIKE THIS IS BUATIFUL.EVERYTIME, GOSH IT MOVES ME EVERTIME I hear it blessings Jah knows

  • Michael McDonald

  • Great vocal phrasing at 2:19. :)

  • Let me guess, this is back when the Grammys represented real musical accomplishment...

  • I have to admit that the Brits have some of the best music out there. I don't even want to get into all the stars they put out, great song, great band!!!!

  • What I want is a MEGA SPECTACULAR BRIT CONCERT to show the World what OUR musicians have done for so long. Women, men and groups who proved their talent and survive today. This is only my opinion but it could be done. Technology would allow all possibilities to show the musicians.

  • THINK !

  • In all the joy from this presentation I wish that I could shake the hand of Mr. Rutherford because of all he has SILENTLY done for our pleasure. Look back at his history. Artistry only. Where is his Knighthood.

  • @justphil101 MR wrote this song with BA Robertson who did the lyrics. The song was inspired by the recent loss of their fathers.

  • Unfortunately, some people make it impossible to reach out to them...still brings tears to my eyes because I remember when Dad was an approachable, caring father.

  • Last month (November) I decided to plan a visit to see my father in January after not seeing him for over 8 years. One week after this decision, less than 2 days after celebrating my 50th birthday, my brother phoned me to tell me that Dad was dead. November 13th, 2011. So much I had planned to tell him in January. It's too late. I wish I had told him in the living years. This song says it all, sadly, yet with hope for those still living.

  • @travlgent1 Sorry to hear about your father :(

  • this is so fantastic!

  • AWESOME FROM MIKE AND THE MECHANICS AND PAUL CARRACK!!!!!!!

  • ...noise of the family. It was but a moment, long ago, yet it was just a minute ago. He passed this Fall.

  • My Ma died in '94. One Winter's eve after the funeral my Dad and I were quietly grilling dinner in the drive. I asked him to step into the car to hear a song. He looked at me oddly, for he wasn't into my, his son's, rock. I played this. He sat silently, looking ahead. The song ended, we stepped out into the cold and dark, and wordlessly walked back to the house. As we hit the step, he put his hand on my shoulder, looked me in the eye, and said "thanks". Then he turned, and walked back into the

  • My mom and I watched the 1990 grammys together. I started crying when they did this song. Mom asked "whats wrong?". I told her "this is want I want to say to Dad"

. She saidwhy don't you?" I did the next day and we had three great years after that.

  • i cry every time i hear this song.reminds of my dearly loved wee daddy and i am a man of 58 years.one of the best ever written and what a voice

  • ich habs mir runtergeladen....Musik ganz große Klasse.....wenn ich mal einen deutschen Text dazu hätte. Ich weiß nur : Generationsproblem....

Die gesamte Cd ist einfach klasse, umwerfend schön

  • The first time I ever heard this song I just happened to be in the middle of a large grocery store, shopping. I literally broke down crying with emotion right then and there! I have only the regrets that I was very young when I suddenly lost my dad (I was only 12) and therefore was robbed of alot of time with my dad.

  • I went to visit my mom and day on a wedneday, everyone was well and fine! The morning I woke to leave for home my mom screamed. I ran downstairs to find my completely health dad had a heart attack in his sleep and passed! I thanked god on my knees in the bathroom for those three last days! This song always makes mr thank of my pop and the wonderful parents god gave me! This is a beautiful song! Thanks so much

  • i have goosebumps..til this day...from this song.!!!

  • The first time I heard this song, was right after I found out that my ex-husband's mother passed away. I cried, Then I told my dad everything that I wish I could tell him. I wasn't there when my dad passed away. Because of this song I had no regrets.

  • Great, great music.

Every time I listen this song, always has special feeling

  • One of the greatest song ever! Keep on listening.

  • Paul Young On Keyboard! absolutely a wonderful guy :[

  • My dad beat my mom up when she was pregnant with me and she caught him cheating so he split before I was born. I found him when I was 22 but he was a drunk and he got drunk and swore at me on the phone one day while I was following in his footsteps and getting a divorce so I didn't call him any more and that was 16 years ago now. I wish it had been different but really I'm just saying the right thing to say

  • I lost my dad when he was 73 to a sudden heart attack I was 35 at the time ( 16 years ago ) he was my best friend, although I was to stupid to say to him I loved him until I saw him the morning before he passed away.As I was driving away from the hospital this song came on the radio and this song has had a profound impact on my life and reminds me to share my feelings with my fanily and friends and helps me realize just how fragile life is

  • the words say all you ever need to think before you make any judgement. We have all the time in the world to repent, its a shame we only ever know that when its too late !! kev

  • My dad was a WWII vet and never spoke about his experiences during D-Day on IWO JIMA...I think that affected him greatly. While we were close, there was always something there unsaid. In Feb of 1989 he was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and died within 6 mos. Sadly, those 6 mos were our closest times...and this song means the world too me. I'm 52 and I can't here this and not tear up. What an amazing song.

  • @TheWad1959 id one day soon like to thank your father and others , for their sacrifices. without them who knows where wed be Eh?

  • The amazing song thanks kisses from Brazil....

  • This was played at my brothers funeral many years ago. This Vid is done so well!

God bless and I love you Drew.

  • my father died on the same day my eldest son was born.he had been through dunkirk d day landings and i never knew him until 1945 when i was 3.this song just eats into my soul. my son cannot realise why the 21/9/61 is so difficult.

  • Beautiful

  • How could anyone dislike this? Absolutely beautiful.

  • 2 justin bieber fans :D

  • a very vera very good song...

  • This is life....or ?

  • a truly great song,i didnt realise it was co written by B A Robertson, we played this at my dads funeral in 2009, very sad but it said everything we all wanted to say and lot more.

  • It is a wonderful old song, very sad for those of us who have lost our fathers, or are estranged from them. It's a real tear jerker! Songs like this don't come around very often.

  • This one brings tears - my folks are long gone - wish I could tell them how much I love them.

  • Great song

  • This song always makes me think of my dad who passed away November 22,1998 it always makes me want to cry, its hard to believe its been 13yrs where has the time gone! To mike & the mechanics I salute you for your most awesome music! Thank you for posting this!

  • I never got to see them but can relate he sings.

  • This song always reminded me of my dad who passed away in 1989. The day I was married in 1990 "the Living years" came on the radio as I was driving to church with my uncle. I quickly changed the radio station feeling too emotional to listen at that moment. I'd be damned if it was playing on the next radio station I turned on as well. My dad's way of saying hello, I chose to believe. Today I listen for father's day.

  • Two words - one name - Paul Carrack! Still one of the greatest voices in the last 35 years of music! Love this guy!

  • @prpro57 Dont you mean Paul McCartney?

  • @Sixalienasa Not sure I fully understand what you mean. Paul Carrack's been a great vocalist since he was with Ace, and still is to this day. McCartney? Of course! One of the greatest vocalists ever! Certainly in the last 50 years, yeah! I was lucky enough to see him and Wings in Seattle 35 years ago, almost to the day...

  • @prpro57 Yes indeed. Great Soulful voice and my new favorite!

  • @prpro57 Very True!

  • This is one of the best friggin' songs ever. Absolutely awesome tune.

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder if there was a dry eye in the audience at the 1990 Grammy awards. Did this song win any awards?

  • @joshuabrooks21 i think it was song of the year, and i rememebr watchin this with my family when i was 8, good times, the room was quiet

  • I met Paul Carrack after his show at the Oxford theatre back in 2006 I think it was.... such a lovely, genuine guy. he wished me happy birthday too. I will remeber that day for the rest of my life :)

  • i picked up on the phil collins resemblance as well...both amazing artists.

  • Carrack is looking a bit like Phil Collins on this, especially with the balding.

  • Paul Carrack has a God given gift. What he has cannot be taught. Fabulous job Mike and the Mechanics!
