my father had a Caddilac when I was little, on the 8track Oum Kalthoum was played many, many times, I can still (phoneticly) sing along. Throughout the years I have learned what her lyrics mean and what she has meant to women in countries where women didn't have that much of a voice at that time. She's a hero to me!
I don't understand a word she says, but I fell in love with her voice after hearing her at a neighbor's house. I was instantly drawn to her voice. Like no one singer. :) Cheers from Spain♥
@soulhasnoname apparently she always holds a handkerchief in her hand to stay high hahah i dont know if its true it doesnt matter she is still the most amazing singer of all time
Heerlijke muziek, voor een Nederlander eventjes vreemd, maar het went vlug en is zo mooi. Een Egyptische DIVA waar we te weinog van horen hier helaas!

fakkarouni was 2 hours and 20 minutes the first time she sang it on stage.. i have the entire song

see how far the Mic from her mouth , like 1/2 a meter far, if she comes closer , the speakers would explode , it is not like the singers of today who kiss the Mic in order to sing
لاحظ بعد المسافة مابين الفم والمايك لابد ان يكون على الاقل نصف متر مسافة و لواقتربت الى المايك فان السماعات تنفجر من قوة الحنجرة المغنيين الاخرين فى ايامها و الان تقريبا يبوسون المايك علشان صوتهم يبان
A note on the translation: Arabic language has a system of rhymes, schemes, and rhythmic structure. There are 10 forms to each verb and each verb has numerous meanings which gives the language 1.6 million words. In contrast, English has about 600,000 words ( about 1/3 of Arabic language,) and that makes translating any Arabic word into English very difficult. Therefore, the translation I’m posting is not even close to the beauty and meaning in its Arabic form, but you get the idea.
Here is the translation of this song. I got it from the web and it doesn't look bad but you get the idea. I'll number the posts and start from the last part of the song (9)
I fall asleep and wake on you lips singing
I hear it as a song.. i hear it as a song
Telling me love that doesn't end
Keep me by your side, in your heart's lap!
Let me dream.. let me
I hope the time never wakes me up.. never wakes me up
@ChristacheLaPistache the hope of my life the right translation of this song. the thing about the old type of arabic song at her area 30s to the 60s is that the singer will sing on song for the whole concert. usually the song is 45 min.

@zaidazem that may be true (about that large mic being for the band) , however it is true, the mics could not stay close to her mouth or else they would be dam aged. Very close? not quite. Singerstoday's mics are VERY close- here u can see hers are at least three feets away if not more.
@Cherrokeetgirl The positioning of a microphone has less to do with the singer's ability to vocally project than it does the design and capabilities of the microphone. The reason for holding it so close is because we have a "loudness war" in music now. To achieve max volume for a singer at ALL times, we hold the mic close and use a compressor maximizes your softer sounds without having to turn the preamp high enough to pick up everything on stage and keeping it low so you don't break the preamp
that is 100% true. Her voice was so powerful that microphones at the time could not capture her ululations, a voice so powerful the MICROPHONE would have been damaged. subhan allah
Your comment shows class…almost .. if it had consideration for someone’s awkward choice of a word, in a foreign tongue, in which case your pity turns out to be false pride.

she had a contralto vocal range. she had the ability to sing as low as the second octave, as well as the ability to sing as high as between the seventh and the eighth octaves at her vocal peak; yet she also could easily sing over a range surpassing two octaves near the end of her career. Her ability to produce approximately 14,000 strength, , no commercial microphone utilized for singing could withstand its strength, forcing her to stand at a 1- to 3-meter

(1)
You're the hope of my life, A precious Love that never ends
You're the best song that my heart heard and that could never be forgotten
Take all my love way.. but today
but today let me live
Keep me by your side, in your heart's lap!
Let me dream.. let me
I hope the time never wakes me up.. never wakes me up
shomzabe 1 year ago
(2)
My hope.. My life... My eyes
You're more precious.. more precious than me to me
You're the lover of yesterday and the lover of today
You're a lover for tomorrow.. and for the end of times
My lover, my lover
Talk to me and tell me
What dream could possibly be missing when I'm lying in your arms
shomzabe 1 year ago
(3)
I never tasted love like you love
I never loved, the love of my life, but for you i did
& I've met my dreams, I've met the world.. I've met love
From the first time I met you.. I gave you my heart.. you're the life of my heart
I've never dreamed of more than this happiness,
I don't ask more than what I'm in
After this joy with you my love
If I lost my life.. I, I, I don't regret it
shomzabe 1 year ago
(4)
It's enough for me to wake to your smile singing
I hear it as a song.. i hear it as a song
Telling me love that doesn't end
Keep me by your side, in your heart's lap!
Let me dream.. let me
I hope the time never wakes me up.. never wakes me up

You're the one whose love filled all the world with love
& whose presence awakened my life time and my heart
When you're with me, it's hard for me to blink.. Even for seconds
It's hard on me if your beauty or your sweetness disappears even a bit
I miss him that much.. That's how much I need him..
shomzabe 1 year ago
(6)
I would like to call you by a word that was never told before
A word worth all this love.. a word worth all this love
A word to show my longings and passion
A word like you.. A word like you.. where can i find you?
There wasn't anyone born like you..
Keep me by your side, in your heart's lap!
Let me dream.. let me
I hope the time never wakes me up.. never wakes me up
shomzabe 1 year ago
(7)
My love, no matter how long my life would be with you
It's still few
The joy and tenderness that's in your love
Is enough for more than many long generations
Your love filled my heart and my thoughts/
Lightens my night and making my life longer
It grows, it grows.. by your preciousness, it always grows
And it's always new.. by its sweetness, always new

You made me live the love, with you it's a thousand love
With each look at you, I love you.. oh I love you.. I love you all over again

I loved in your eyes all the world
Even my enemies and those who envy me
All of the people seem nice to me
As long as my eyes see the world with you by my side

she had a contralto vocal range. she had the ability to sing as low as the second octave, as well as the ability to sing as high as between the seventh and the eighth octaves at her vocal peak; yet she also could easily sing over a range surpassing two octaves near the end of her career. Her ability to produce approximately 14,000 strength, , no commercial microphone utilized for singing could withstand its strength, forcing her to stand at a 1- to 3-meter
