@getajobfatboy Yep it's a fine machine, my only complaint is it doesn't have a depth control - which you have to upgrade to and I didn't want to spend the money. If you don't do any tillage it's probably immaterial.
@MrLizbudu The little short garden tractors have only 7" of clearence under the front axle - you have to get it well cultivated and hope the corn grows fast enough to choke out the weeds by shading them. When it gets too wet to cultivate when you need to then you have weedy corn. A taller tractor would help. Look at the ground clearance an old 8n Ford has - that's about ideal.
The first time I drove a tractor was when i was about 8, and I ran into the front light post hah! I now use a john deere model M from 1948 to plow my garden, but everything else is done by small tools, like a Mantis tiller to cultivate, and an old MTD tiller. I am thinking of buying a tractor just like this for my garden in a few years because it seems to hadle everything you cound need to do. Great video!
That there is some real concentration! I remembered my first time learning to use the PTO mower on my friend's farm. What was worse was his PTO didnt have a overrun clutch so I ended up driving it into a tree! No harm done though, just a little love tap! :)
Yep it's a family joke - his mom called him a "Brillo Head." She said his hair reminded her of a Brillo pad. It wasn't long before he talked his grandma into going back to short hair. :-)
Varies - some plants 30", some 40" and some 60" or more. Depends on several criteria one of which is how hard it is to harvest, how bad it spreads out etc.
so did i now i'm 11 and i drive stuff like 4960(my favorite), 4455, 9400, JD combines and cranes and construction eqipment by myself i know it's hard to believe but i'm serious i do all that stuff for my grandpa who was a former president of pork board :D
Looks like you're concentrating soooo deeply!! Almost looks like you're in pain!! Anyway, job well done! I also agree that the tractor/cultivator are very nice!!
He looks exhilarated to be cultivating for the first time in his life...

Not so much - it's a charity garden - all the produce we don't personally use goes to a local food bank for charity.

@jq730d
Ha...ha.....just kidding. Charity, I have heard that people are lining up for free food, it's a hard time for some, and it's getting harder.

No, it's actually fear. If he strays outside of the lines by one inch, his grandfather will lock him in the root cellar for a week. (Speculation.)
