I wish more people would support the organisations working for these animals
and help the spay- and neauter projects and prevention. some countries have spay.neuter-release programs. Work with prevention is good, both for the society and the dogs. The dogs that today lives on the street, let them live. Every life is precious. Unwanted? In many cases yes, but its no ethical solution to kill them. Support the organisations instead, adopt from shelter, they do a great job, you could too
you people judge the rest of the world by YOUR standards. yes it is sad to see any animal put to death, but most of the same people that are active in animal rights have NOTHING to say about all the genocide done to HUMANS the world over.
I am not saying they don`t care, just that their priorities are all screwed up.
an overabundance of any animal in cities that are already dirty means the spread of disease.
same as dumass dog owners that refuse to train their dogs and try to bring in restaurant
@EASTENDGLEN Can you tell us how you are active regarding human rights ? as I am always interested , btw as well as defending animals I would also defend a human that wasnt being treated right .
Also what is so wrong with having standards the world would be a pretty sorry state if no - one had any !
@busafwine Yes I have rescued several turkish street dogs and have brought some to the UK , I have two that live with me along with my other rescued animals.
Do a search of the turkish people and dogs and you'll see they desperately need help and education...animal cruelty is rampant there....so very very sad....
This is extremely heartbreaking. These are all little angels being treated worse than garbage by so-called "superior" humans. Heaven is for the animals, and only the chosen humans are allowed in -- the ones who have earned it.
This is appalling, soon the situation will be as bad in Turkey as it is in Greece. These countries should never be in the EU, they behave like barbaric third world countries.
In Turkey it is as bad as in Greece etc. This countries should be in the EU because than as EU citizens we can do something about it. I started a foundation for the help of animals in Crete and I have been in contact with the EU about animal welfare in Greece. In time they will listen.
Greece has been in the EU for 27 years and flout every EU rule, they also have the worst animal abuse record per capita than any eu country. I hope you are right about them listening, as one of the charities dedicated to Greece has been struggling for 22 years with nobody listening. I cannot see a difference being made in my lifetime.PETA & WSPA have given up on them because of their backward attitude to neutering & humane euthanasia.
It is not only the government who has to be turned around but also the Greek themselves. There have been some changes in their attitude towards animals. That's not the work of the government at all indeed, it is the work of the animal welfare organizations. The more Greek are protesting the more the goverment has to listen to their own citizens. I know it is a long way to go.
Even though PETA & WSPA has given up on them, the little local organizations didn't, there the ones who makes the difference because they are local, they know the people, they face the horrirds every day. Don't feel attacked by me saying this but I don't believe anymore in the big organizations
Sorry, whilst I was posting up my reply, your two more comments came through. I certainly dont feel attacked by what you say, as it is true, but I sometimes think if people like PETA and WSPA have given up what chance does one little person like me have to make a difference.
I'm that little person. I started a foundation after some really bad experience on crete. I run the foundation on my own with some help of some volunteers. we support about 5 projects with everthing we can and I know it changes at least the lifes of some animals.
You have misunderstood me I think, I should have said, apart from the govt attitude towards neutering/euthanasia (which is the main cause of strays) which would reduce the number abandoned cats & dogs, it is the government's resposibility to enforce their laws regarding abuse, ie. torture and poisoning, instead of which they are completely apathetic and barely prosecute anybody. A good example is the person who is known to have hanged 9 dogs in Kos and still not arrested after 10 months.
Ok, I understand. The government of Greece should enforce the laws etc. but it is like talking to a thick wall I know. I believe that if we can turn around the citizens, the government has to follow.
Catwoman, I know of a really lovely person who is also running a group for animals in Crete, you might know her or I can put you in touch, please pm me.
Heartbreaking... I'm so proud of you for speaking up in defence of these voiceless animals, the recent world wide rally's will also help to make a huge difference to the outcome of this brutality, the killing must stop and with your help it will!!
nice view. There should be no stray dogson the streets.
