I feel so so so bad for Tobey...this shows that from the very beginning Tobey was more into Jack than Jack into Tobey, IMO Jack was in a relationship just because he wanted to be with someone to fill a void, in Season 5 it's a little bit clearer when he joined the fraternity instead of being with Tobey.
And they hook up later on
