He mr. Beaverclan, who is the man in the left with a gitar and curly hair Robin Shaw or Robin Box???? in the video when you are a king??? love his face!!!
I wonder if Greenaway sang lead on TOTP's because Burrows was in 3 of the bands on that night...?
By the way, the BBC have that edition of TOTP's in the archive. Quite why iit doesn't seem to have seen the light of day is allegedly because one of the other acts on that show might be preventing it.
A full 'time-coded' recording of that TOTP's appearance is 'out there'.
Love this song & have it on a 45 single. Tony Burrows is a cutie. Where can I find on YouTube the Youtube "White Plains - Lovin' You Baby - 45 rpm" and "Tony Burrows - Take Away the Feeling - 45 rpm" videos. I'd love to see those but can't seem to find them on YouTube for some reason. Thanks to whoever knows! :)
Original lead singer in the B-W clip at the beginning is Roger Greenaway who also wrote the song. He wrote hits for The Fortunes and many other artists. On the left is Tony Burrows who as a session singer sang lead on a lot of hits. White Plains evolved from The Flower Pot Men after Greenaway had taken over production and songwriting duties for that band from John Carter and Ken Lewis.
One of the last Flowerpot Men songs was a Roger Greenaway and Roger Cook production "In a Moment of Madness" The same song (also same cut) turned up on the White Plains album. The origin of this song came to be when the Rogers made acquaintance with Sophie Loren on a wet rainy day at London Airport.
They performed around 6 gigs last year. With Tony Burrows. Also Robin Shaw and Robin Box. Not sure what they are up to for 2008. Keep an eye on their gig list at their website.
People interested in White Plains and Tony Burrows, please see also on Youtube "White Plains - Lovin' You Baby - 45 rpm" and "Tony Burrows - Take Away the Feeling - 45 rpm" a rare recording with a picture of Burrows on label.
The song "In A Moment of Madness" written by Cook-Greenaway for Flowerpot Men was put on the LP "My Baby Loves Lovin'" by White Plains. The same recording. Roger Greenaway can be seen singing "My Baby Loves Lovin'" in the first clip of "White Plains MY BABY LOVES LOVIN' megamix" above.
In a Moment of Madness is the same track featuring the same artists. They just changed their name from Folowerpotmen to White Plains. Just a couple of minor personel changes in the group..
Thanks, you're very well informed about it, of course. I would like to see the complete clip of "My Baby Loves Lovin'" featuring Roger Greenaway. Cook-Greenaway("Cookaway"),Macaulay and Hiller were icons of the British Invasion era.
I've been working with various songwriters for many years and built so many websites. Done all the research and sound clips on web sights like rogercook com and tonyhiller com and currently working with Barry Mason site all his sound clips. All great fun and so friendly people. John Holman
Went along to see the White Planes in 1980 at Grandy rd Club Doncaster England, they very good on the night and remember they had an old ford transit van - Thanks for posting
Yes a great version. Roger Cook who also co wrote the song with Roger Greenaway managed to go to number one spot with the song in Sweden in the early 70s
the other guy your refering to actualy appeard on top of the pops 3 times in one nite as lead singer with 3 diffrent groups, white plains, eddison lighthouse, and i forget the other one , boing boing
I disagree. The fact that Tony Burrows sang vocals on United We stand doesnt make Brotherhood of Man an "early version " of White plains. It just means he recorded with both bands in the same year ( 1970 ) as well as he did with Ediston Lighthouse & The Pitkins.
The "early version " of White Plains: "Flowerpot Men". Please see the clip "Let's go to san francisco -Flowerpot Men" or "Flowerpot Men - Lets Go The San Francisco" on Youtube.
great video

What's going on on the right side of the screen at 35"? Funny how you never noticed these "blemishes" when originally watching TOTP!
