TECHNOLOGIST!!!! A tech does rote and limited procedures. And no contrast ( the power injector shown is CT or catholigy (cath) lab or vascular intervention. Which take additional training. Film? I'not seen film since school. Weak!
So do you guys like your job. I was thinking about going to my local community college and enrolling in the associate degree program for this. Was the coursework hard?
I've been accepted into the Radiology program at my school! I have Orientation tomorrow and School starts on July 5th! Can't WAit!! Are there any RAdiologic Technologists out there? How do you like your job???
you guys are fucking nutt jobs, who fucking cares that she misused terminology. Didn't you see every other comment saying the same thing as you before you posted your comment !?!
I am very interested in training for this profession, but I have been freaked out by hearing you will have to give injections. I HATE needles and have heard you don't always have to give an injection because the Radiologist does it most of the time. Is it true that all Rad Tech's HAVE to inject contrast die? ;(
@Cristalraindrops After being all excited about a prospective career in Rad tech, the whole injection thing was a total buzz kill. Especially when you consider the risks include injury to a nerve, artery, or vein; infection; or an allergic reaction, etc to the contrast dye. I guess its no surprise this little detail is omitted from every other Rad Tech advertisement.
@Cristalraindrops: most of the time, u will connect the syringe w/o needle directly to the iv. i only use a needle to draw up the contrast. then i get rid of needle.
Technician IS an absolute insult to my profession. You MUST change technician to technologist please. If I would have used the word technician on my application into the RADT program I never would have gotten in.
@IntenseObservation Ya, except I'm a Radiologic TECHNOLOGIST, meaning I perform the exam on the patient, not fix the equipment to perform the exam. In school, they make a huge deal out of this difference. There is a difference between the word "technician" and "technologist", just like there is a difference between Resident doctors and Attending doctors....... o.0
@bigpapisancho In medical lab, technologists work above technicians. In radiology, radiologic technologists and technicians are exactly the same thing and perform the same tests. The names just depend on where you work.
doing RT prereq courses myself here in Cali hoping to get into the program in Aug. Doesn't seem too difficult though the majority of my classmates have a hard time. Then again I'm an oddball. I have my Ba in Microbio and am an unemployed phlebotomist, so I kinda already have a bckgrnd on the anat/phys and physics portion.
wanted to add it was interesting see the SID being processed in the video. The class I'm in still uses old IRs. Question for any RTs bumping into this vid. I understand we want to minimize total exposure, assuming same mAs, how much of the kvp do you increase for say.. a CXR if the pt. is considerably larger than average? Or does this require completely different technique?
Yeah RN's are very well paid over here but I don't think I'd be able to do it though. Like having to deal with deaths and stuff like that. Cali's weather is so weird. We just had crazy rain with hail these past two weeks and now all of a sudden it's hot today. Very beautiful day...
Is the schooling difficult to be come a Radiographer? Two year associate's degree doesn't seem that much. I'm thinking of doing but afraid I won't do good since I sucked at math. Anyone know what classes you gotta take and is this a high demand job? I'm actually and unemployed Surgical Technologist but this is what I always wanted to do.
Oh no there is jobs out there. I just haven't worked as one since '04. I worked for a plastic surgeon but the pay wasn't good so I ended up applying for a city job where they offered me full-time with benefits. So I took that. Now it's been way too long and forgot alot that they taught me. Took some refresher courses but still haven't been able to find employment. But yeah like I said earlier, there is work for them out there. Don't be discouraged by what I said.
Cool thanx. I guess I can't find anything since it's been a while and they probably want a fresh graduate. That's why I want to do something different. Like this...
@chiquisbaby81 Keep looking, the economy is making things a bit tough ( even in the medical field) In a change of hearts, I'm going for my RN after all :P it's what I've been pursuing so it'll be a waste of the all the pre-reqs i've already taken. I'm in Florida
I will. Yeah this economy sucks right now. I've been out of work for a little over a year now. So I figured to just take the advantage and go back to school. RN's are in real high demand right now. That's good that you're doing that. I like helping others too. I'm in Cali ;]
@chiquisbaby81 In Cali?? Oh you'll have no problem with RN then, they are well paid there! Good luck :) How is Cali at the moment? Florida is abnormally freezing.

Look theese programs are great. But remember that you are going to be working with lot of low end kind of people. So i wouldn't recommend it for anyone going into surgery or radiology. All the DOC's I have talked to through my undergrad research say only one thing, in the words of an orthopedic surgeon "Why? it's takes too much time, I would just volunteer or work as PCT and go ahead and chase the moon" Good Luck!
aug21. Yes, I love it problem solving, high energy and a different day every day.

mrbrightbill 1 year ago
Technicians = repair machines with no medical knowledge whatsoever.
Radiologic Technologists / Radiographers = medical professionals.
You wouldn't call Medical Technician to a Medical Technologist, would you? Get your facts right.

The correct title is radiologic technologist. A technician is the person who works on the equipment not the one who takes the x rays
