Pliers would have been useless. You cannot remove an embedded hook underwater with pliers or anything else. You don't realize how powerful a sea turtle is. The only reason I could catch her was that she was hampered by the jug.
This is the reason this kind of irresponsible fishing is illegal in many places,it's considered poaching(fishing with an unattended line) fish and wildlife should put a hefty fine on anybody who engages in this kind of practice
@fourtriangles2112 dont think this was an accident. It looks like someone did this on purpose. but I agree with you who ever endangers innocent animals for no reason should be shot.
Eventually it will rust out but depending on the kind of metal that could take years. It could also work its way out, but that doesn't seem likely in this case.
It's not pretty but a hook is not a big problem as long as there's no line to entangle.
Pliers would have removed the hook and cut the line.
